It's a godless world now, for sure. Those who claim righteousness are usually deluded.

I am an American girl studying in Europe. I do not do things that are crazy because I am so far away from home and believe there are no consequences. I am not saying that this girl didn't do it and I completely believe that all the evidence points to her guilt along with the two men. But some of the postings on this site have missed the point. Don't bring God or race into this. It is a human story. Many Christians and religious people have committed worse crimes and they had accepted Jesus into their hearts. I believe that more people are killed with 'religious intentions' than otherwise. I am not religious, and I don't commit crimes, so the logic there is inconsistent. I does not matter that the barman was black, the other two people were white. The only thing that matters is that a poor girl was raped and the murdered. She died a slow painful lonely death, and I bet her last thoughts had nothing to do with the religion or race of those committing the crime.

In the end it doesnt matter if the girl went to that viila to have wild sex. It doesnt matter that she should have known better. It doesnt even matter if her reputation was promiscuious and deplorable. The others committed a crime, period. And to blame the victim is reprehensible.

I was treated so well in italy last year as an American student. rather than judge skin color, or even what this young lady did or did not do for fun, we should agree that yet another young American girl far from home used poor judgemnt with respect to friends, the way she portrayed herself on her website, and put herself at senseless risk. Be wise and know your surroundings, wherever you are.

The crusades were an act of terrible dimensions. To force people to believe in something is against all acceptable practices. And to follow with threats that if you dont join you go to hell. People who live in ghettos are there becasue of their own choice? What about children of people who live in ghettos, is that their choice as well? Reading through the article as well as some of these comments given makes me see there is way too much manipulation of ones emotion. The article plays on some really old stereotypes which always draw up an argument. For exampe, the "American girl" gone bad scenario, you know the "tempting the young men into sexual deviancy". It must be her fault because she's a woman and she made " them" do it. The "black man" who is put into question due to the fact that the local authorities are having problems with crime causes by
immigrants....hmm racism comes to mind. Please people if you really want to know what's going on look beyond these stereotypical assertions. I hope that race, gender, nationality will not be the "factor" when it comes to determining who the guilty people are.

And reading some of this comments, it is sad to see how little people know about USA and world history. 1980- present day Seattle, WA is about is far away for 1950s Deep South or New England.
The USA didn't "start" slavery, it existed before the Revolutionary War and after the formation was gradually eliminated from US states (and banned throughout the country after the US Civil War). Slavery existed in almost every other country/territory in the western hemisphere: Brazil didn't outlaw slavery until 1888 or so, and they imported more slaves than any other country in the new world (USA included).
Some European countries continued slavery until the 1930s (mainly ended by economical issues created by the great depression). But they limited the slavery to territory they controlled in Africa and liked to call it a "rubber tax", which was just an early 1900s PC term for forced labor.
I am in no way trying to dampen US history or do a "they did the same thing" argument, I'm just pointing out that almost every country in present and the past has had some kind of racism/bigotry/xenophobia in its history. And that slavery existed worldwide and sadly, it still exists openly and clandestinely in some countries.
