Wow, what is so very telling about culture today is that in Italy, they are horrified and rivited by this story, but here in America, we are not. To be perfectly honest, while reading this I felt much empathy for the poor girl who was tortured, but I did not feel shock at all. I guess that has to do with how desensitized I have become. Just seemed like another crime like the ones I hear about a few times a month that are similiar in that someone was beat/raped/tortured to death.

I pray that they are able to figure out who all was involved, and that if Mr. Lumumbao was not involved that another innocent life is not taken away. If Ms. Knox and Mr. Sollecito were involved, I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

man not everything in the entire world revolves around your ethnic credo. Get a grip, get a life and loose the I've been repressed. Romans held the english under thumb as slaves for the better part of a millenia. Every race has at one time or another enslaved another. It was the dark ages. No lawyers and no financial restitution in those days.

Instead put yourself in someone else's shoes.. Would it matter to you if you were black or white and still be this girl? No you would be just as dead.

I am pretty sure there is news all over the place about every race and gender. just because this fits your "norm" doesn't mean it fits another. everyday you open the news paper and just see horror. its the world that is in ruins because of the people on it. Anyone can make a pattern fit. No gender, race or country has a perfect someone. And after reading this article it is clear that they dont think they are innocent, regardless of skin.

Let's forget about race for right now, someone has been brutally raped and killed, and for quite a while she suffered, before dying. The authorities need to concentrate on evidence, which from what I have read, is very incriminating. And eventually the truth will come out. She was someone's family, and we need to get rid of the pettiness of someone else who only sees this as a race issue. First of all that's ludicrous, they need to be punished. And the should all get the same punishment, These people are evil, and need to be put away before they hurt someone else. God Bless her family and those involved will eventually account for what they did.

It is so sad to see such hate/racisim in all these comments. I hope most of you are the older generation because if this is our future generation, we're ALL in trouble. Who knows, maybe that will bring us all together.

It strikes me as odd that people would immediately be discussing who "instigated" this terrible crime rather than who committed it. This is very telling, as is the fact that others have posted commetns here not expressing any civilized feelings toward the victim, but expressing their racial and gender bias. There has been no indication that any of the suspects were mentally incapacitated, so only prejudice could explain hostile comments singled out for the "white woman". To automatically assume the innocence of one suspect over that of another is the definition of prejudice.

Whoa! How 'bout these sweeping generalizations:
Comment: American women have been the centre of heinous violent crimes for years, it's just now being exported to Europe but because white American women are worshipped along the lines of the cow etc...
Comment:Why do black people always play the race card? Do you hear this tune playing on the world's
    smallest violin yet?
This is not about any sector of global society. These are individuals, regardless of color, who were involved in a truly bestial crime. They should be studied as individuals, and in the present context, no matter what past character reports indicate. People change. Sociopaths are deceptive. (Ted Bundy was described as "charming" by the people that worked with him.) Let this one play out in the courts. Forensic evidence does not lie and I'm willing to bet that they will start ratting on each other to save themselves.

Why can't we leave race out of this and deal with the facts. That there are human beings out there who are evil. Whether they are black, white, asian, indian, hispanic, european, italian, etc. doesn't mean anything. What matters is the type person you are. Apparantly these three individuals aren't the type people that should be left in our society. Don't let others who are evil and sick divide us. Don't judge by race...judge by compassion, empathy, etc. these are the things which make a human being.

There are many sweeping generalizations being posted here. It really disheartens me to read insistence that someone be imprisoned, blamed, or exonerated solely based on their race.

It appears Knox is relying on old time American racism thinking that just because Lumumba is black people would believe he's guilty. She was probably trying to set him up, which means this was premeditated. The judge was just stating the facts, her finger and foot prints in the room, obvious lies and her boyfriends knife with the victims blood and she admits to being with him that night. Lumumba has the least evidence against him, while in the area, nothing puts him in the room during the crime. If there is no DNA from the sexual assault, he probably will walk. Well, she's not in America and i hope the Italians will not fall for her innocent blonde blue eyed ruse.

This young woman instigated this murder and somehow got Mumumbo and Sollecito involved. If she heard the girl's screams, why didn't she help her? Unbelievable! Throw her, especially in jail, along with her boyfriend. If their DNA was found there, both are done. "Stick a fork in them".

    To Hawk Master,

And you know this how? Were you there? Are you clairvoyant? Wait until all the evidence is in and the case goes to trial. Then you can make an informed decision. Until then you are just guessing and assuming. If they are guilty then they will have to answer for it.

I wonder if "Patrick" Lumumba is any relation to Patrice Lumumba, the short-lived [literally] Prime Minister of the Congo after they seceded from Belgium in the early 1960's?
