ali109 that is the most ludicrous thing i have EVER heard in my entire life ur going to insult the entirety of America over one sick individual? Grow up, ive hung out with foreign exchange students from a multitude of different countries they brag about their country the same way(i.e brag about drinking laws in their country and how bad ours are etc.) thats just a facade people put on to make themselves seem important because they are nervous being in a different country especially one with a different language and want to garner people's attention. I hope she gets punished for her crimes too but dont expect Americans to pay penance for the acts of one. Also on the issue of Blackwater, us Americans are all responsible for the acts of a glorified band of mercenaries? I could go on for days about how ur supposedly high and mighty European countries backed mercenary companies (i.e executive outcomes, wikipedia that u tool) severly damaged the developement of African countries and is one of the reasons for all of the politcal and economic turmoil there still today. So shut up and think before opening ur mouth before jumping on the global liberal, anti-American bandwagon , because u kno its the cool thing to do and all. At the end of the day that all stems from jealousy because we are the greatest and most powerful nation in the world.

I am highly offended by the comments in which most of you adults have been posting. It's funny how a "black man" has been the main focus in comments on this gruesome murder. Whether it was a Black man, an American woman, or an Italian man, this young lady was murdered viciously...bottom line. As for broncostevep, I am offended by your comments. There is no need for you to be afraid to live in the U.S. because of Black men. I live in NYC and everyday when I turn on the news, a violent act has been commited. I can honestly say that it isn't a black or white issue. It's just some crazy ass people living in this world. So, should I be afraid to send my child to school because statistics show that most school shootings have been commited by white Americans? I think not. Being afraid is what gets you hurt. You can not live your life in fear. And why are you offended that Black people marched for Jena 6? Yes, it was Mychal Bell's 5th conviction, but do you believe that charging those students with second degree murder for beating up a fellow student was fair? Keep in mind, when those 3 nooses were found, the white students were only given a 3 day suspension. And for your Darfur statement, (which has absoIutely nothing to do with this case but you're in need of a brief lesson) I don't really understand where you went with that. What's happening in Darfur is genocide. Due to drought and overpopulation, Arabic camel herding nomads have moved further south in search of water and vast land, leading them to take over a land that belongs to non-Arabic farming communities. You're obviously speaking on something, in which you do not know much about. But, the real issue here is how and why this murder was committed and let's stay focused on that. To everyone, let's read and form educated opinions before getting online and talking nonsense. No wonder our children are still so 'messed up'.

dr:noitall, where did you live, in a little village in the middle of a forest in Sicily or Calabria? Are you sure you ???really??? lived in Italy? Because what you describe is the reality of only the very little towns in the far south of Italy or the reality of Italy 100 years ago. I can tell you for sure, as I???m often in Chicago as my wife is from there, that Italy has many problems and Italian customs are sometimes contradictory, but the actual Italian society doesn???t have the problems you say, but others: first of all it is a less bigoted society than the US mid-west, it is not true at all that Italian women who live by themselves are considered bad women in fact there are more women living by themselves that men, the % of betraying women is higher than men and notwithstanding this men don???t keep them closed inside the house but let them go out with friends just like they do; here people get married later, the average is about 30 after a lot of experience, both for women and men, and this is not an obstacle for them to find an husband or a fianc??e at all, unless they live in those villages in South Italy, even southern Italy towns like Napoli or Palermo are so different from your description, almost every woman works and at least in centre-north Italy is almost impossible to find a man contrary to that, we are a much more modern society than you say, both with its positive side and negative that modernity takes.

It's not true that the media here doesn't talk too much about that homicide as well, because everywhere in Europe they seem to talk about that just like an Agatha Christie homicide.

Lastly, sollecito doesn't mean tickle, solletico is tickle.
Sorry dr:noitall but the reality you describe seems more similar to some place in Alabama or Mississippi than Italy

you should probably look into american history. The story behind Rosewood (the real events not the movie) is that a white woman who was cheating on her husband with everyone in town was beaten by one of her extra lovers. She didn't want her husband to know she was sleeping around so she walked into the middle of town claiming that a "dark black man(n word) beat and raped her"
Rosewood was burnt to the ground, mass graves and lynchings.

So sorry to say but history contiues to repeat itself.

Also look up the story of Emmitt Till, a young African American boy who had his face ripped off and was tortured because he whistled at a white woman.

This all happened in america. Get a clue and know your own history before you make a racist comment that shows how stupid you really are.

And where are you from linkpocket? What perfectly formed country are you from, can I look through your history and find history of your country doing heinous things. Are you british? Can i point out your oppression of Catholics and the Irish. Can i call up the reports of soccer hooligans and their racial violence. America is not perfect, no place is. The world is broken and only the love of God can mend it. SSOdon't condemn a nation of 300 million

Emmett's father, Louis Till, was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. While serving in Italy, he was convicted of raping two women and killing a third. He was executed by the Army by hanging near Pisa in July 1945.

I've never heard this story. But even if it were true, note the word "convicted". Does that mean he actually did it?

Are suggesting that he got a fair trail?

Ali109, while I agree with most of your comments (and I am an American by birth and by choice) . . . you seem to absolve the other participants of their guilt. Are you telling me that we Americans possess magical mind-control powers over you "lesser" beings? It is clear you have your own agenda and probably jump on any story where an American has done something abominable to spew yoru venom. So be it. That said, I hope the 3 of them and any other participant are caught, and that they rot in a cell for the rest of their lives and then rot in hell the rest of eternity. And my thoughts and prayers are with the Kercher family because they are the ones who deserve our focus and attention. But you Ali and your Ilk couldn't care less about them - only your own agenda and bitter feelings. My prayers are with you as well.

This is just another example of how our society is changing into a group of thrill seekers. I mean, just the story itself shows what we are. Extreme everything, because there are those that are too weak to enjoy normal anything. It is perpetuated in the media as a tool to sell products that had no place previous. As a result you will have those, like these 4 that use the extreme to fulfill their twisted desires, and ultimately end up in the death of a person whose participated in something she thought was going to be ok, and then turned wicked. As long as we, as a society, continue to endorse and promote these "extreme" sports, tastes, music, lifestyles etc...problems like this will continue to show their ugly faces, sooner or later.

dottore10 - as a black American who lived in Europe for over 10 years (first in London than Gothenburg Sweden and Barcelona) I would agree that Europeans have a history of racism, but from my experience in today's context, Europeans are more culturalist and not racist. What I mean by that is take Sweden.....if you were from East Africa;say Ethopia, Eritrea, etc, you would have a very difficult time......but it you were from West Africa; Senegal, Ghana, Ivory Coast (Nigeria and Cameron to a lesser extent) you were treated vastly different. I personally think it is based on the fact that Islam is more prevalent in Eastern Africa then Western, beyond this there are differences betweent the two regions. The problem in the US is that American racism is a paradox because there is no logic to it. In Europe much of the cultural/racial issues are due to the fact that these places are trying to protect their cultural heritiage. Here in the states, this does not apply. If any person, black of white in the US, tells you that they have more in common with their country/continent of origin they're lying. I as a black American has more in common with a white American than someone from say Ghana. The reciprical is true as well for whites of European decent (who's family has been in the US over 100 years). This is the paradox that we as Americans must get past.

    • Posted By: Ddra20 @ 11/16/2007 2:44:03 PM

I am also a black american, and I've traveled the world extensively in the past 20 yrs. I would like to know why race matters at all in this issue when a HUMAN BEING was slowly slaughtered like an animal? Before any race gets up on thier high horse, we have to deal with humanity and right to life on the most basic level, before we go into our self righteous, philosopical tangents about who's better. It took this girl 2 hours to die. If you were lying there with your throat cut open and some idiots carrying out sexual perversions on you, I PROMISE YOU, the last thing you're going to be thinking about is color. That was somebodies baby that was killed. Respect for life, regardless of color. Enough is enough.

      • Posted By: Swales @ 11/16/2007 3:23:57 PM

Couldn't agree more. As a white man(with N. European ancestry) from Chicago I have more in common with a black man from Chicago than anybody from my ancestors homeland. When I hear people say I'm Irish-American, Italian-American or even African-American I understand why they do it, but it doesn't mean all that much anymore.

Ddra20 - I would agree with you if we lived in a society that was in a vacuum. My post was in regards to an Italian national who stated about racism in Europe. I thought it was important to qualify his initial statement. The position that you present is a humanitarian position that cannot (unfortunately) be directly addressed due to the bias of all people involved.....and by this I mean the direct actors and the global society. You as a MAN who has traveled the world, you must concede that the world in which we live is not prepared to evaluate individual acts as individual acts. This would allow for humanitarian position to be expressed. This is what leads to grand generalizations that people hold dear to their heart eventhough they have not quantified or qualified their beliefs. Until we as a species stop trying to justify our positions one way or the other, we will continue to see everything is terms or "my" perspective and "your" perspective.

I'm just proud that America's wonderful violence is spreading thanks to a few key white kids placed strategically. First we have the Finnish kid who killed his classmates after, apparently, communications with a Philadelphia kid who was planning an attack. Now we have Knox, unleashing some good old American violence in Italy. GOOO USA!! (by the way, has anyone heard anything else about the baby parts that were found in the San Diego recycle center?).

americans go to report on iraq and get their heads cut off. americans go to thailand to have almost legal sex with children. americans go to aruba to be killed. americans go to help poor african villages and are killed. americans go to mexico to be robbed. americans go to france to be spit on. american women go italy to be fingered on a crowded bus by a pervert. are you sure that all of the problems are here?

Yes, us evil Americans are so evil and so cunning we can talk your children into killing their friends with only talking to them online.. Are you brain dead? Americans are the new Jews of the world, something goes wrong.. It is the Americans and their horrible culture...

Yeah, they don't do that anymore.

  • Posted By: primary13 @ 11/16/2007 2:42:32 PM

It's unfortunate that so many people base their views on the sensationalized media and not necessarily on any hard evidence, or fact. When the media reports an issue they are not as much concerned with whether or not they are presenting the facts clearly and unbiasedly, as they are on making sure that people buy their papers or watch their programs. It is unfortunate as people lives are at stake, but as long as it "sizzles" it's good fodder for the masses. I also think that if a judge who is supposed to be fair and impartial is publicly making statements on a case, he should be removed from his duties and replaced. But who cares? In a couple of weeks these people will all but be forgotten and it will be on to the next circus.

    • Posted By: aolivaw @ 11/16/2007 2:53:21 PM

Yeah, I wonder what will happen next?!? I hope it will involve some fire, flames, or explosions of some kind so that they will play it over and over and over again on the news. I love watching things blow up! ;-)

  • Posted By: positive @ 11/16/2007 2:50:27 PM

I think all 3 involved should be locked up forever-no matter what part they played they are all guilty of no less than watching this young woman suffer for around 2 hours as she was being brutally raped and bleeding to death, I have a daughter about the same age and it would be so hard to live if something happened to her caused by an accident, but it would be unbearable to live with the knowledge of the suffering she went through. I cant imagine wanting something so bad that I would do this to another human being- or do they just think they are more valuable than anyone else? it seems like the "just do it attitude" has become a way of life and if you can get what you want, then nothing else matters, even if it means taking someone elses life for a few minutes of pleasure or a few bucks. sad sad world

These aren't people, but cowardly coldblooded beasts! I know Italy, and I know the callousness of many Italians, young and not so young! Many of them put the evil that is in their hearts into "killing tone of voice." Wrds that kill, of course, are less than actual killing. But the world sghould begin to notice, and protest, this strange evil that foreign visitors often come across!
