I do not agree, I have taken Vitamin C suppliments every day for the past 12 years and find tht I have less colds then before I started taken them...I get maybe one or two colds a year and they last about two or three days if if that as for before I started to take vitamin C, I was catching colds every time I turned around.
So I am a strong believer that it does work.

Very high doeses of Vitamin C definitely lessons the symptoms of a cold a lot. Drugs will just bring your immune system back down.

If I'm getting a cold I drink a full container of orange juice within a 12 hour period, and it never goes farther than that...Non-concentrated, of course...I live by this theory...for me it's proven...

Vitamin C doesn't cure anything. It's only one nutrient of many that support optimum immune function. Along with a healthy lifestyle, C can indeed reduce the frequency and severity of colds or bouts with the flu. It's preventive care, not an immediate fix.

Anything natural I am all for, with all the toxins we put in our bodies in today's world it is hard to fathom. I used to take Vitamims, drink Xango, goji, etc..., trying to feel better and stay out of the hospitol and away from the doctor. I have changed 2 things in my life and lost weight, never sick anymore and feel great. I started drinking 8.5 PH level water and taking BHIP energy drink. Change my life and my health.

Wow, why was this article written anyways? Does it have anything to do with the drug companies wanting us to get sick for their benefit? I'm only 24, but it's absurd how much our elders have to spend on drugs while they just reap in the money. I just don't trust these articles who are monitored by the government.

Isolated supplements, like man-made Vitamin C pills are completely void of the necessary antioxidant qualities inherent in fruits and vegetables. It is the synergistic effect of the thousands of phytonutrients that help neutralize the oxidative stress which threatens our immune systems. Peruse PreventionProof.com for an education not tainted with testimonials or doctor's endorsements who are "on the payroll". ;-)

200 mgs of Vitamin C will not do very much. They sell Vitamin C Pills in 500 mg doses and I usually take 2 each day. When I think I am getting a cold, I take up to 6000 mgs and if I do end up getting a cold, it is usually fairly mild. Before I took Vitamin C every day, I got strep throat every winter, in addition to several colds throughout the year.

In terms of the dosage 60 mg will have very little if any affect in preventing a cold about all that can do is prevent someone from possible getting scurvy. I have read most of what Pauling wrote and I have to agree to have any substantial affect one should take large doses yet there are side affects for some people. I personally from age 30 to 40 started with approximately 2 grams and increased to 10 grams gradually over ten years. I traveled extensively throughout the US and had exposure to extreme cold in the midwest and east coast. I can not recall ever having a cold during that time or wearing a coat. I attribute most of this to the affects of vitamin C previous to this from 20 to 30 years old I can say that I had at least two colds a year. I think the most significant factor however in prevention of colds is cleaniness and washing hands regularly.

I think that this exact report is whats wrong with the world today....I think that it is soooo stupid that they would even tell people about this....Alot of things in life are all about mind over matter... If millions of people think and believe vitamin c works for them and want to take a bunch of it everyday then why steal their thunder??? Every time I get sick I consume a huge amount of vitamin c and 7 times out of ten I fell a lot better did it help me scientificly??? According to you guys no.... Mentally, it cures me and makes me feel better.....So posting this whole big article on your little study for millions to read right before cold season was smart because??? Has anyone seen match stick men??? If not...You should its a very good example on what I am trying to say...

    hi,...
my dfaughter who's a yr old was suffering from cold and runny nose for a week ,..i tried a few doc prescribed medicines, but didnt show much sign's of improvement. then i tried giving her freshly squeezed orange juice ,..believe it or not,..she was in the top condition the day after. i think vitamins in their natural form found in foods and fruits and more readily and easily absorbed by the body than the pills. its always true...and its worked every time for a us......always consume vitamins and minerals in their natural form found in foods rather than popping them thru pills and you will see the results better.

I am grateful for the other readers who are speaking up about their personal experiences with mega-doses of vitamin C. I have been ingesting 10 grams of Vitamin C for over twenty years without catching a cold or flu! However, as Pauling wrote in a subsequent book--"How to Live Longer and Feel Better" vitamins work together. So please add your Vitamin B, E, A, Multi and mineral supplement to the mix. One last note: Vitamin C is a natural laxative--a benefit most people appreciate. Slowly build up your tolerance to the mega-doses of vitamin C. Oh yeah, last tip: Buy the cheapest vitamins you can find. They are all the same!!!!! Don't pay health food store or specialty vitamin shop prices.

I met Linus Pauling's son about 10 years ago in California, and asked him about his father's advice on Vitamin C. His son takes about a spoonful of vitamin C every day, and believes his father is right. I on the other hand, have taken Vitamin C and still get sick. Perhaps it only works for some people.

Drinking lots of orange juice may, in fact, have very negative consequences for some people. It is LOADED with sugar carbs, the kind that go straight into your blood stream. Over time, people who drink sweet drinks all the time may develop insulin resistence and, if they are suseptable, diabetes.
