I just take Del Monte Pineapple Juice whenever I feel I'm getting the cold virus... It stops in a day or two.. I hate taking medicines because it doesn't do good to my body.

Well, I have to disagree. Ever since twelve years ago I decided to start taking vitamin C once a day Whether it be in juice or it be the form of tablets. I have to tell you that I have not had a cold in that time. In fact I have not gotten sick at all. Must work Good for Linus Pauling obvious to me he knew more than they do today

i think wems. should discuss here the amount of vitamin C taken, sometimes people overdose by taking 1000 mg of it in capsule form, but we only need 75 mg, equaling to 2 glasses of orange juice..the danger here is that it can cause rebound that is your body doesn't recognize the excess and after days of not taking symptoms of vitamin C deficiency's occurs, like bleeding of gums...it can also cause kidney stones if used in very large amounts and chronically.

This is a bullshit finding and a motivated write-up. I have been taking Vitamin C, for the last 15 years after one of my Doctor, brothers asked me to do the same to ward off the common cold and acute Sinusities problems. Till today I do not take any medicine except Vitamin-C to cure common cold, cough, sinusities, soar throats etc.. My findings are that Vitamin C works wonders in such cases and well known Indian brand "Chavanprash" whose ingredients are mainly Vitamin C are prescribed by Indian Ayurvedic doctors to remain healthy. This is one of components of my diet and without it I think I might catch a cold too often or die too soon after taking harmful antibiotics; in lieu of this wonder vitamin. I do not why Yahoo publishes such motivated informations. Down with such news!! Amen.

The only way to really defend yourself against the cold, flu and like viruses is not only with vitamin C but with essential oils and with the Ningxia wolfberry from China. It has much more vitamin C then oranges. Folks I have not had a cold or flu in 2 years since I have used the oils!!. If you have any questions write me at jdogzworld@yahoo.com.

    Disagree with the report.

200 mgs/day does nothing. It's dosage of 1,000 mgs or more that the benefits start to be effective. I've taken up to 3,000 mg/day for periods of time and it does prevent illness and colds. Been on it for over 10 years now. Plus, artificial Vitamin C, like in the stores, are pretty much useless. It's the authentic Vitamin C of Citric Acid that is beneficial. The body doesn't break down Ascorbic Acid like it does Citric Acid.

Generally, when people catch a cold, their body's are under stress, their immune system is down and therefore, more susceptible to infection. Vitamin C is involved in the production of catecholamines, increases iron absorption (for healthy blood cell function), and enhances the action of Natural Killer cells in vivo, making it a very useful vitamin (in higher doses in those that are stressed) for those people who have a stressful lifestyle. This seems to be, in this day and age, most of the population.

Sorry but I swear by vitamin C and chicken soup. At the first sign of a cold, 4-5 500mg tablets of vitamin C twice a day and chicken soup for all meals is the order of the day. Yesterday I was sneezing and the nose was running like crazy. Tonight all is fine, no sneezing, runny nose or congestion. Works for me - don't like
    Nyquil much.

Healthier eating and healthier lifestlyes for most people would mean longer, healthier life. If nothing else taking 500 mg of vitamin c daily should ward off scurvy --that was a killer 200 years ago.

I started taking a muti-vitamin in late 2004 and drinking a glass of V-8 juice every morning. It's now 3 years later and I have not had a major cold since. Just minor sniffles a couple times. No congestion, no sore throat. Before this I would get one or two major colds every year. Sorry but I believe something I'm doing is preventing these colds.

perhaps an australian doctor might have a very good study regarding vitmin C and colds to refute the old thinking. But as for me, based on my experience, colds might be lessen or gets better by taking vitamin C. Probably because the vitamins boost the immune system thereby helping your body combat the virus or infection

Vitamin C is a magnificent vit, It builds your T Cells, arterial walls, good for your skin, circulation. Along with vitamin E, it has great healing and immune building qualities. Also acts as a colon cleanser and can also be mixed with other ingredients to do liver and colon cleanses. Also good for the heart. Western medicine will lead you to believe Vitamins are not needed, They sell pharmacy medicine, no profit in healing. Johnnie G
