    I have been one of the beta testers for this product. At first I thought "Who needs this when you can read a book?" Wrong! I will never forget the Sunday evening when my wife and I (also a beta tester) were sitting in the living room when our brains shifted. This device represents a new way to access information. If it was only a "book reader" I doubt Amazon would have been interested. It downloads new material, books, newspapers, magazines, blogs,etc. nearly instantly. The search function reviews all the books on the device plus the web. I love it. I can read a book easily look up a word I don't know in the dictionary and then find other related material in my library or on the web. It is easy to use and light weight.

    If you want a book reader it does this well, as does the Sony Reader and other devices. If you want to experience a new way of obtaining, reading, and accessing information, this is the new wave.

    I received my Kindle today and I have to say "NO" to the haters. This is a killer reader. Here are some pros and cons:

    Pros
    1. The reader response time is excellent and the display is crisp and clear.
    2. The interface is extremely intuitive and well-designed.
    3. Shopping in the Kindle store is extremely easy and relatively fast
    4. Page and menu navigation are easy and well thought out.
    5. The mp3 player works very well so audio books would be great as well
    6. In general it's a great design in perhaps not the most beautiful package.
    7. Great non-skid backing

    Cons:
    1. The keyboard can be a bit slow to respond while shopping.
    2. It's a tad uncomfortable to hold without the book cover but I'll manage.
    3. Pricey

    All things considered, I'm extremely pleased with the Kindle. The device is already registered and it is ready to go as soon as you unpack it.

    I was one of the "test subjects" for the device. I have been using it for about 2 months and it has changed the way I read. The only complaint I had was that I was not able to use the device outside of my home. The books/mags/newspapers appear for all intents and purposes "instantly". It is actually more pleasant that reading a book. The screen adjusts for the light and the the ergonomics are perfect for me. I have a large library and can only see buying a "book" now if it does not offered on the Kindle or if it has great sentimental value.

    I am 14, alomst graduting from junior high. My granparents told me that they would either buy the kindle or a laptop for me. I am a super fast reader, so i was inmediately tilted toward the Kindle. The only problem is, wouldn't any kid at my high school love to steal this $400 book? And would the high school even allow me to carry it around? I guess it could very easily be put into the cell phones and Ipods group of electronics that even my junior high won't let us carry around. If you want to buy this for your kid orgrandkid, consider this first.
