Comment: Hopefully OBAMA or one of his supporters reads this. The second key for OBama to defeat Hillary is to push the fact that she is a polarizing figure that statistics show half of American men in this country would not vote for her and that being a women leader would make it difficult to deal with the Middle East. Most Men in the Mideast would not be as embrassing because their culture does not follow women leaders. If you offend the people you are trying to negotiate with you are not going to get what you want and that is peace in the middle east. (Don't get me wrong Hillary is capable of handling negotitations, OBama himself cannot come out and make the women comment it has to be done through a commercial by a third party). Leaders in the middle east will give OBAMA a chance because of his color, name and background. Obama can win if he drives these two issues, illegal immigration and foreign policy. Unfortunately BARAK did not give the answer I was looking for I did, so I do not know the candidates will enough to know what they truly think but if OBama represents the politics of hope, he should take my advise. I guarantee you these two issues will bolt you into the democratic, and give you a platform for your Presedential campaign. I like Hillary CLinton and I think she would make a great vice president who works on domestic issues. I think we have already had a Clinton in the white and it is time to move on. I will save my Republican theories for another article. But just a quick preview. Gulliani is not a conservative so it is easy to defeat him for the Republican nomination. Guilliani was not in control on 9/11, he could not do anything without approval from the white house. The terrorists were in controll of 9/11 not Gulliani. Him dressing. up as a women should be played over and over again. You can use his upside against him, he seems power hungry, he was a great mayor and would also make a great vice president. The republicans are in trouble just like the 2004 democratic lineup they have no chance of winning this next election. All my opinions and comments have been patented. I was flattered when a foreign policy expert quoted my comments regarding the Nov 9, 2007 article WHILE PAKISTAN BURNS. I mentioned that " Israeli issues which makes this issue even more complicated". He also quoted other parts of my blog. I am a proud graduate of the University of Maryland class of 04 and if anyone needs political advice or ideas to confront political issues in the OBAMA camp, or any other camp, republican or democrat, you can e-mail me. ftennassee@yahoo.com.

Twisted, I certainly agree with you on all counts. Hilary Clinton is part of the machine in DC and she is deceitful. She contradicts herself all the time on the war. God help us if she gets into office. People need to look at the bigger picture as far as the war is concerned. Sure I don't want it to continue but when I look at what will happen if we don't stay over there it scares me to death. If we don't it is going to be over here on our soil. Much of it comes from Iran and Syria too, not just Iraq. Many of us think well let's just wait till they kill each other off but that is what they want us to do. If we do not put a stop to terrorism now it will be here too and it does not just affect us but the entire globe. Please people wake up!!!

    newsweekkrapmag,

By the way about taxes, every time we have a dem as president, my taxes go thru the roof

    • Posted By: adm75 @ 11/19/2007 9:08:47 PM

My taxes went up during the Bush admin. Didn't get any significant reduction in federal taxes ( I work for a living) while local taxes went way up.

      • Posted By: Chris1729 @ 11/19/2007 9:32:24 PM

adm75, I sincerely resent your comment. We all "work" for a living. Some of us work with our hands and do labor, and some of us work in other careers. Wall Street tycoons don't labor, but what they do is difficult, risky, stressful, and they earn their pay just like anybody else.

I'm guessing that you weren't in the top tax bracket.

I would like to congratulate Karl Rove and all presidential candidates for participating and serving in the political process of this great country. I admire all candidates both republican and democrat and wish to offer some "Karl Rove Quality of advice".But first let me state that Karl Rove is a genius, a bit pompus, but like any great quaterback one must have confidence. Karl Rove's reasoning is simple, know your opponent and distinguish yourself. It makes sense. As Rove mentioned, Hillary Clinton's every move and reaction is calculated so in order to defeat her, "show that you are real", I couldn't have put it better myself Karl! It was so easy to defeat Gore, expose his goofiness and calculated answers with responses like "fuzzy math". 'Let Gore beat himself, he's a moron' was one of the tickets the Rebublicans played in the 2000 election (Gore once claimed he invented the internet, his answers were not real they were scripted) . And in 2004 the republicans portrayed Kerry as "flip flopper" because he voted for it before he voted against it. Combined that with the constant images of Kerry looking like a Hippi on withdrawl, protesting the same war he fought for; finished him off.

Obama had a great opportunity to capture the minds and hopes of the American people in the last debate, but he failed. He also failed to integrate the Rove Doctrine: To distinguish yourself from your opponent and do not hesitate to say anything controversial. Obama's opportunity came when he was asked the same question Hillary Clinton stumbled on in the previous debate which was, do you believe that illegal immigrants should have drivers licenses? At that juncture he should have responded by stating that
"everyone in this country are human beings first and that they are very sensative to this issue because it affects millions of families and their relatives. As President I am willing to tackle this problem head on not just "patch it up"(THat would have made a memorable punch line). The first thing I would do as President when confronted with this issue is to get to the root of the problem. Why can't illegals become legal and get legal driver's licenses why do they have to be illegal in the first place. The short term solution would be to give illegals licenses with conditions just like visitors attain temporary driver's licenses or the licenses from their country have been evaluated and recognized. Licenses for illegals must have special conditions, if you are convicted of any driving felony or DUI your license is automatically revoked.

Why do you people back Clinton so much. First of all she can't keep her husband happy, what makes you think she will keep the country happy. Has anyone gone to war or had an immediate family member go to war? We all would like war to end, but it's not going to happen. Realize it. People want Americans to die and their version of the bible sais to kill those who do not follow in their footsteps. Put yourself in these shoes. Would you want to fight a war on American soil. Would you be willing to let terrorists come into your neighborhood and harm your family. I wouldnt. I call you a ignorant, if you think pulling forces out of war is going to help. It will only allow things to get worse. They will regain strength and something worse that 9/11 will occur. World peace would be great, but if America wants to remain great it needs to put an end to terrorism. Argue, do whatever you want but if you dont support our troops and respect they are fighting so we can do this, you need to get our of America or realize that we have the opportunity to live in the greatest country on the face of this planet.

Factually, Mrs. Clinton is about as qualified to be President as Sox the Cat. Her only qualification thus far is that she was legally married to a President during his entire term of office. She carpetbags her way to NY and gets elected to the Senate, NOT because she had any qualifications for that office either, but because she matched the wish fulfillment fantasies of so many Liberal Democrats swarming in that unfortunate state.
Who cares if she is cold, calculating, vindictive or nice, mellow and warm? Hell, my cats are nice, mellow and warm but certainly not qualified for the Senate on those attributes...yeesh!

It would be nice if just ONE Liberal Politician would define not only the goals of the Liberals, but more importantly HOW THEY INTEND TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS. I'm an ex-flaming Leftie and left because of the lack of said goal and methodology outline. When I hear of what the Liberals intend to enact upon their achievement of total power I am ultimately left with only my own logical surmizes about how they will achieve their goals (since they will not outline them for me) and my surmizes are not pretty!

I am trying to keep an open mind, but it is difficult. Please! Please tell me what makes Mrs. Clinton even basically qualified for the office. I already know the basics of what she says she will do, if elected. Please also tell me HOW she plans to implement her programs without bankrupting this country or at least destroying the very incentives that made us the greatest nation on the planet.

Bush's incompetence makes Hillary look like a genius!

    • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/19/2007 8:43:36 PM

Sorry, but Hillary Clinton will not bankrupt this country. George Bush and our Republican Congress have already done that. Our national debt is now $9,000,000,000. Under President Bush we have spent more borrowed money than all the previous forty-two presidents put together. And what do we have to show for it? Two hot wars; three dollars a gallon gas; rising education costs; no affordable uvinersal health care; a divided country; a growing income gap between the upper and lower classes, with more wealth concentrated in less hands since 1928; and on an on.

And as to your question as to what liberals actually want: "to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provided for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity." Wouldn't universal health care, for example, further the "general welfare" of the American people?

Stop listening to Conservative talk radio or watching Fox news. And don't rely on the mainstream so-called liberal media. It is entertaining at best, misleading at worse. But it certainly is not liberal. Remember the lead up to the Iraq war? All network and cable news were beating the war drums and waving the flag. Those who raised serious doubt about the lead up to the Iraq war were marginlized and labled as crazy. Scott Ritter was one who told us beforehand that Iraq did not have WMDs. John Maher and Phil Donohue lost their jobs for being antiwar.

    • Posted By: newsweekkrapmag @ 11/19/2007 8:33:10 PM

Sox the cat..... Perhaps hyperbole.... Still, I'm hardly a fan of HIllary's. Is H. L Menken available? If not, Garrison Keilor. Is a sense outrage a bad thing? Depends on your basic values. I'm tired of America's political debate being dominated by a vocal pack of proud-to-be-ignorant Fox-watching greed self interested self-interest corporate crony donkeys. Hey, get real, the party will end, and it will be your fault. To hark bark to an old bumper-sticker war- "America: Change it or Lose it". I quote that comment as a wake-up call. The country has been betrayed by 7 years of incompetent,war-mongering, what would you call it? Rich people: Think long term. Now. For the sake of the country. Your future, as well as ours, depends on it.

"He needs to do better among minorities, and be seen as trying." Just one of the many glaring problems in the way that Carl Rove plays politics. To him it is a game that must be won any cost. Offering solutions to the problems that face millions of Americans is of no importance, all that matters is getting elected. And why not? It worked for George W Bush. Rove realizes that the American people are far too trusting, they believe that when a candidate describes what type of president he will be if elected he will actually follow through with it. Our current President made a lot of promises to the American people and we elected him twice. People like Rove don't care about what is best for the United States of America, they care about winning and they will say whatever they think you want to hear in order to achieve that end.

  • Posted By: Snorkeldorf @ 11/19/2007 9:09:43 PM

Make no mistake, Republicans are salivating at the prospect of running against Hillary Clinton next November, because they know she is probably the only candidate they have a realistic chance of beating. Mr. Rove's article is but a thinly veiled attempt to promote that end.

The problem is, justifiably or not, Ms. Clinton is such a polarizing force in U.S. politics that, no matter who she runs against, 50% will vote against her. Thus, even if 80% of the remaining 50% that would even consider it do vote for her, best case gives her 40% of the vote. In our predominantly two-party system, 40% won't get it done. The best Democrats could hope for in that scenario would be an independent candidate (say someone like Ron Paul) who could siphon off 20% of the anti-Hillary vote resulting in a race that would be too close to call.

For me, a race too close to call is too scary a prospect, especially if we can do better. I believe not only that we can do better, but that we can do much better. To effect real change in our country we need a unifying force in power and, if Hillary Clinton has proven one thing, it is that she is anything but a unifying force.

Good God. I know that this is an Internet discussion board on a politics website, and therefore probably not a good place to find intelligent discussion. Even considering that, isn't there ANYONE here who isn???t some partisan hack repeating verbatim whatever his party???s spin-doctors tell him to? "Democrats are evil and Soviet-style communists and Bill Clinton made September 11!" "No, Republicans are evil and George Bush is retarded and Dick Cheney eats puppies!" Give me a f*****g break. Is this nothing more than a game to you people? Who can get out the simplest message in the shortest sound bite to be devoured and repeated by the most simpletons? We???re talking about running a country here.

    • Posted By: newsweekkrapmag @ 11/19/2007 9:08:24 PM

Well, I'd like to think that there is me...... On the other hand, I wouldn't go to anything with newsweek's name on it expecting intelligent discourse....

After 8 years of bush and cheny, if the people of the USA are stupid enough to vote for any Republican then they deserve what they get and I'm moving to Canada. Go Senator Clinton Go. And as for karl Rove, go to the place that is bell with an h instead of a b. After 8 years of bush and cheny we need a *** to get us out of the mess the bastard have planned to destroy the middle class and democracy in the USA.

  • Posted By: rhp6033 @ 11/19/2007 7:55:59 PM

Typical Rove. He purports to be giving some fatherly advice, but he never gives the real advice in public. So this "public" message is a very calcluated attempt to lob some bombs at Clinton. He repeats the story about the mirror twice, even though he knows it leaves the wrong impression, just because it gives him an opportunity to portray Cinton as "cold" when she (rightfully) calls him on it. He repeats the (rhymes with "witch") story because it gives him an opportunity to remind people that some call her a "b---h", or a witch, or both. He tells Republicans to reach out to minorities and talk about economic mobility and other issues, because he wants people to hint that the Republicans have anything worthwhile to say on that issue (they don't), and to distract from his party's poor performance in those areas. He then goes back to the Republican "talking points" that the Iraq war is about terrorisim (it isn't, never has been), that the war is "winnable" (thereby setting up the plan to blame the Democrats when they are in charge after the election), and that Clinton has the low "negative" ratings and is "beatable". All in all, it seems to me that the Republicans are very afraid of Hillary Clinton the candidate. Their campaign seems to be to convince Democrats that she can't win the election, so therefore theys hould pick somebody else. It reminds me of the 1972 election,w hen the White House Plumbers made sure Muskie didn't get the nomination.

    • Posted By: master_of_my_domain @ 11/19/2007 9:06:43 PM

Thank you rhp6033 for a dignified discussion of Rove's lies....and how he has destroyed public discourse in this country.

    • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/19/2007 8:10:07 PM

Very pointed observations, especially where the Republicans will lay the blame if a Democrat wins the White House. Seems that the GOP political machine is already planting the seeds of a "stab in the back" theory. I just hope we get to the 2008 election without us attacking Iran or another major terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

    newsweekkrapmag ,

No, I don't get your drift

    • Posted By: newsweekkrapmag @ 11/19/2007 9:03:37 PM

My drift Barry, is that life is pretty good in so many ways that essentially depend on government doing its job properly. You get the government you deserve in the end. Treat them as incompetent cost centers, well, you might as well round up the wagons and move behind the gates. I pay my taxes, expect responsible, honest civil servants who are well trained and deserve my respect,, and desire to live in peace. I resent being manipulated by fear-mongering politicians and want the Cheney/Bush bullshait to end sooner rather that later. I don't care who the president is, as long as they are honest, competent, peace-loving, fiscally responsible and far sighted. In the meanwhile, hold these sob's to account.

  • Posted By: politicusmaximus08 @ 11/19/2007 9:02:56 PM

Also I now believe that only republican operatives come on blogs on post this line which i swear i have seen all over the place , "whenever a DEM president is in power my taxes go thru the roof" . That is very said , but realize this mr republican operative that you are the only 30 Percent left of the country that now believe that Bush's huge taxes for the rich and the oil company tycoons are helping the middle class, the average guy ......

    slidemike,

Is that your best? I'm actually an engineer, I grew up working hard as a mechanic, had paper routes and mowed lawns as a youngster. Have you ever owned your own business, probably not. Crawl back in your hole as a democrat, then come back out and see how hard work has built this country, not handouts and welfare, I won't say that you flip burgers, I am guessing that you are light in your loafers

    • Posted By: newsweekkrapmag @ 11/19/2007 8:22:47 PM

Dear Barry, one only assumed that you were a burger flipper on the basis of the quality of your politic wisdom and skills in express it. Having now had an insight into your lawn-mowing and paper-route skills I feel that you should feel fully empowered to bless us with your political views no matter how small-minded, contradictory, dangerous to the general health of the republic (that's us, by the way) or just fundamentally misguided. Feel free to fire away! (Put please don't vote until you take the road to Damascus! (By the way, that is not an invite to invade Syria.....

Only the republicans need a guide book that wont work from a man named Karl rove , The country is a much different place then in 2000 , This guide is basically telling the candidate how he should act ,its just an image ,its fake so In fact Mr Rove this means that the person is not the same the person doesn't believe in his own values enough so he needs to read a 2 page memo or hint list from you in order to win an entire country ,saover.Verr

  • Posted By: tiredofpoliticsasusualbydems @ 11/19/2007 8:43:58 PM

Why all the vitriol by the Hillary supporters? Newsweek is hardly a right of center mag. I guess that the idea of freedom of speech only applies to folks who agree with you?????? Could it be that Rove is feared by yuns because he was so effective in devising successful strategies. I hope that Hillary isn't paying attention to supporters like you all and does read Rove's article.

    • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/19/2007 8:54:58 PM

I agree. I believe in free speech. Yes, Mr. Rove was successful in his political machinations and getting GW Bush elected, but at what price to our nation.

    • Posted By: newsweekkrapmag @ 11/19/2007 8:52:50 PM

Not a Hillary supporter. Need guts to get my vote. newsweek (no capital letter required is apolitcal. It isn't left or right wing. It is corporate wing. I guess that's why both sides assume it is on the other side. Mainly, it is just poorly reasoned, topical and a waste of time for anything, especially political. Great for lining bird cages, tho, they do love their oh-so-cleverly banal word play. Anyway, Rove is scoundrel who has done more probably than anyone to poison the level of political debate in this country. Way to go, Rovey! And I'll bet that you are all the same a proud man. Shame, Rove, shame.

  • Posted By: newsweekkrapmag @ 11/19/2007 8:38:28 PM

Barry, I think it that is great that you have your own business? What line of work are in? How is the health care? Taxes not too high? Quality of the local schools alright? Potholes fixed regularly? Air pure enough to breath? Cops keeping the neighborhood safe. Good life, right? Hey, let's head off to the local bar, have a few drinks and a hot meal and *** about the government. Get my drift Barry?

    • Posted By: ckstaley @ 11/19/2007 8:54:04 PM

Slidemike, ignorance is a handicap, too. We should take that into consideration when dealing with our "slower" fellow Americans. With any luck the social programs that have been drastically cut of late, will be restored and we can help those who so obviously need it, like Barry. ;) Here's to '08!
