I want to join the following choir denouncing Newsweek's recruitment of Rove as its regular writer. This is not called politics in balance--so called right and left. This is an act of irresponsibility.

Rove is a central figure of a failed presidency, which waged an unnecessary war in the name of counter terrorism; made US the most hated country on earth; intensified the ideology divide in the country; turned national budget surplus to huge debts, the list can go on and on. Such a figure, once out of political arena, should be condemned and sinks into permanent obscurity and shame.

Contrary to this, what Newsweek is doing is to tell its readers that politics is indeed only a game; there should be no accountability and no price to pay if government officials (paid by taxpayers??? money) made decisions that actually caused great harm to the country.

Instead of listening to Rove???s nonsense, why not figure out

    - how much taxpayers' money Rove helped to waste (directly or indirectly)
    - how many deaths, injuries and destructions Rove helped to cause (directly or indirectly)
    - how much hatred towards US Rove helped to create (directly or indirectly)
    - how much harm to our constitutional democracy Rove helped to generate (directly or indirectly)

Also, we should not forget other unquantifiable and dishonorable political tactics such as lies, misinformation, political manipulations that must also have Rove???s finger tips on them. By appearance, Rove is an ugly man; but by what he has done to our politics, he makes politics indeed ugly.

She didn't have it taken down, either, now, did she?

The man is an astute political wonk, just as was (and is) Carvell and Begalia. The difference being they spun the lies of a politically beloved President who was protected by the major media. Rove has handled a maligned (by the major media) President and done a great job. His positions are not triangulated for political expediency but rather intelectually honest, albeit unpopular. If you have to call the truth "swift boating" I suggest you review your deffinition of the truth. The left hates Bush. The right disliked Clinton not for his political abilities but for his undermining of the constitution. And that's what Hillary will do. And if someone is going to beat her they had better listen to Rove. And if we do beat her because of Roves' intelligence and understanding of the political dynamic of this next election, then I would imagine the left will continue to hate him along with Bush and his legacy.

Rove is disingenuous in repeating that story about the full-length mirror in his office. What does it matter that Rove never actually said that Hillary had put the mirror there. Of course that's what he meant to imply, and he knew his audience would take it that way. So for him to spin the story eight years after the fact to make Hillary look like she was being cold and humorless is just plain rotten. Shame on him. She confronted him because he's a snarky little man who knew exactly what he was saying. Good for her. He is too arrogant to realize that repeating this story in this article just exposes him again for the crafty runt that he is.

How in the world did Karl Rove end up as a Newsweek contributor? Well, at least he makes sense and brings in a lot of fresh air. He should be running for president. He would beat Hillary in a flash! I can only imagine Hillary's wrath and contention when she loses the election. And she will, Rove or not!

Why isn't Karl Rove in jail for his part in the outing of Valerie Plame - and for so many other crimes against the American people that are a tad bit harder to prove?

This from the man who egged on Bush to destroy what was left of collegiality and cooperation in Washington, Just another glib neocon load of horseradish. In fact, Sen. Clinton (not my first choice for the nomination) is a true centrist and, like most politicians, will change positions when she sees them as unpopular. (Unlike Bush, whose only core value is to the necon naive fantasy of a Democracy-embracing world..

Rove knows Sen. Clinton will be the nominaee so he's doing whatever can, as early as possible, to plant the seeds for her swiftboating. Just like Rehnquist and his buddies usesd to plant the seeds and wait for years to turn them into precedent. But Rove has now seen first the world and then America reject his animosity-driven agenda. Now it's time for him to go home and join Tom DeLay in a new rat exterminating company.

Newsweek is doing it's job of "informing the public". There is a lot to be said for publishing both sides and letting the public decide.

The more I know about Rowe, the more I am convinced that he and his kind don't deserve to be in power

The story about the mirror simply shows Rove's colors exactly -- he is a master of implication, but then, we know that Karl is an honorable man and would never imply anything to hurt his opponents. He would not out an undercover CIA agent, because he, like the president, is an honorable man. Nor would he encourage the swiftboaters, because, after all, he is an honorable man who wants to, as this article *clearly* shows, a free, fair, and equitable election (at least in 47 or 48 states). Nor would he guide a less astute student of history, the president, to follow the path of a, to put it mildly, megalomanic like Dick Cheney (who should and does know better) to plunge us into the most specious experiement in nation building in forty years, because Karl, like Tom "Big Bribes" DeLay, Rudy "Not Still a Cross Dresser" Guiliani, and Mitt "Me, a Mormon?" Romney are all honorable men who wish to lead our great nation in an honorable direction...so let us not now bury the clearly reanimated corpse of Mr. Rove, but praise him for the honorable, patriotic, constitution-defending lover of liberty and the common people that he so obviously is. God Bless America, and God Bless Mr. Rove with whatever just desserts he has coming for the glory that he has so selflessly draped America in during his time in Caesar's court.

I think you give too much attention to Rove. Men like him may somehow tilt an election. He is the king of negative advertising. I think it should be banned from politics. If one has something to contribute it should not be a hate ad. The Swift Boating of John Kerry is the perfect example. While there is freedom of speech to lie in an ad should be nailed by the FCC. It's amazing how at one point the Republican led FCC choked some of the media. But the swift boat was allowed. That's not politics. It's trash and the power of example it sets for others in horrible and inexcusable.

It's always good to have different opinions voiced so that you can make up your mind on which way to follow. Hillary Clinton is not my choice, but if it comes to her or someone that Mr. Rove supports, you better believe it will be "Hillary All the Way". Maybe Newsweek hired Mr. Rove so that the people could see who he supports and therefore the rest of America can vote in the opposite direction. I know that I read this report with a sense of humor. You need to have one when you are faced with someone who has made a pact with the devil. Please, Newsweek, tell me that you only hired him to start up discussions!!

what is telling about the comments to the mirror story is that people are saying that Rove erred in telling it again because they are assuming what the truth is. they have neither developed, or they have simply chosen to suspend their powers of LOGICAL thinking. there is a truth here, but we cannot be certain of it as third parties. however, there are things we can logically conclude without knowing who is fibbing. let's assume Clinton is not a lying narcissist. if Rove knew it wasn't true and persisted, the foul claimed is one of dishonesty, but not on policy since we're talking about a wall mirror. so Rove is dishonest, his intention being to take liberties with the facts to rattle an opposition politician. under this scenario (where one could see such an attempt to rattle a person aspiring to lead this country as a strange favor), then Clinton's reaction says more about her disqualifications for the highest office if she cannot keep her cool in such trivial circumstances. alternatively, our first assumption about Clinton could be wrong. either way, logic doesn't commend Clinton to us as our next president. come on people, quit letting emotions drive some sort of political tribalism to the point that you delude yourself that everything said by people you like is true and vice-versa. "feel-good" is not a political end in itself, it can be an appropriate side-effect of policies or it can be a tactic to manipulate people or obscure inaction. we felt good from the time of the first WTC bombing and did very little to stop the run-up to 9-11. the presidential campaign aside, that is the spin cycle this country desperately needs to avoid, because things we sweep under the rug while we are busy feeling good as an end in itself will come back with a vengeance.

I don't know what is Rove's intention to prematurely and wishfully claim Clinton will be the Democratic nominee. As far as I am concerned. Hillary should and will not be the nominee. Even though the mainstream media and Washington establishment have already pre-selected Hillary by giving her overwhelmingly more free attention and coverage. Taking the debate at Nevada as an example, CNN was not a neutral host. CNN handled the entire event like it was an opportunity for Hillary to recover from her previous poor debate performance. It is just so disgusting. CNN has lost its credibility with me.

As far as I am concerned, Hillary hasn't done anything tangibly to deserve her front runner status but because her name sake. Making her health care reform as an example, first of all, it was a failure and it showed her poor leadership skills???she did everything in secrecy and didn???t intend to share any credits with anybody else, but herself.

Let's say, if unfortunately Hillary wins the nomination, then it is sad to acknowledge that in our political system, the winner belongs to the one who is most adept at playing the media game, ideology game, the one who has the most inside connections with all media, establishment and corporations, the one who is the most ruthless--willing to do anything and say anything and use any dishonest tactics to win. Does this sound similar as how Bush won his presidency? After Bush???s failed regime, I cannot imagine that it seems that American public and the media are destined to make the same mistake. So we should not blame the politicians but ourselves for our corrupt political system. It is painful for me to envision another political dynasty residing in the White House after Bush dynasty's incompetence, Rove style of secrecy, manipulation and hard-cored ideology.

When you bestow credibility to a person who was/is part of an apparatus that would subvert our justice system in the name of political gain, and deny Democracy's greatest gift to its citizens the right to vote, then I am left saddened and disappointed for your real journalist, and America.

The presence of Rove is a good reason not to subscribe to Newsweek. I'm dropping my subscription to the print version of Newsweek.

    • Posted By: singer @ 11/18/2007 2:49:51 PM

I don't subscribe to Newsweek, but I do read the magazine frequently and have found it to be newsworthy and full of opinion. With Mr. Rove as a contributor I do not look forward his commentary, as he has shown himself to be very untruthful and malicious. He is responsible for the mess the U.S. is facing in the world, and yet Mr. Rove would have us believe that what we need is to declare victory over the "war on terror" and America will be just fine. Wake up America, the Republicans have sold America to the highest bidder and it's being bought with oil money. Should things continue under Republicans, it won't be long before America is no longer making automobiles (we can make them cheaper and better in foreign lands), and we won't be growing our own food (we'll import it) and there will be a camera on every block watching you and your neighbors (in the name of safety). America needs Democrats, who know that just because you're rich shouldn't give you the right to avoid paying your fair share of taxes and taking more responsiblilty to help the poor and strengthen the government to help the poor and less educated. To whom much is given, much is expected. This is a lesson Republicans need to heed. Spending billions of dollars to wage wars and make rockets is a sin, but should republicans get in the White House again, this is exactly what we can expect.

Why does Karl Rove, who lost both the House and Senate in 2006, have a voice that Newsweek wants to acknowledge? He does not even have a college degree. Why is he still in the public spotlight? I'll take a pass on Rove's infamous wisdom and I'll put my hope in the American people to make up their own minds. Karl can tell the conservatives how to think but as for me, I can think for myself.

Why are you giving this liar, cheat and thief a forum for his venom. Next to Dick Cheney he's the biggest (rhymes with stick) in political history. Let's start seeking those with advice on how to become the best Americans we can be, not the most vlllainous.
