Some say Karl Rove should not have been given this job, but I disagree. He is the perfect poster child for the GOP---he represents them perfectly....a sneaky little imposter of a man. Larry Craig, David Vitter , Mark Foley, or Duke Cunningham etc. etc. etc. ,combined could not represent the GOP better! He speaks about "the ***" and he should know, he was Bush's *** for last few decades.

    • Posted By: dallas7107 @ 11/20/2007 11:41:09 AM

      So much for libral tolerance

      • Posted By: abfabinri @ 11/21/2007 1:11:45 AM

Sorry but I have no tolerance for liars and those who preach morals yet have very little. Speaking of tolerance, it is not exactly a GOP strong suit, they want to ban gay marriage, block health care for children, and keep our troops in a war based on lies.....why should I tolerate any of that?

  • Posted By: xjug1987 @ 11/20/2007 11:50:16 AM

abfabinri - Get real. Clinton and his ilk are the most corrupt people ever to infect the country. They should be in prison vs celebrated by knumbskulls like you.

    • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 1:10:11 PM

Clinton lied about getting a bit of head outside his marriage, how does that rate against the many republicans visiting whores, cruising mens rooms or chatting up young interns? The fact that there's still anyone left who thinks the past 6years have been better than the previous 8 simply astounds me.

      • Posted By: abfabinri @ 11/21/2007 1:07:22 AM

Yes, it is amazing that some people can be so blind but after all it is the party of hypocrites.

    • Posted By: abfabinri @ 11/21/2007 1:03:11 AM

Looks like it might be someone in the Bush Administration that will wind up in jail--oops I forgot, actually there already was Scooter, but he was pardoned by the Boss..and now it looks as if Bush was lying after all, as MOST of us thought in first place...Scott McClellan's new book should be making them sweat! Do I hear impeachment? Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald should and probably will restart the whole thing.

  • Posted By: NewChallenger @ 11/20/2007 5:55:31 PM

Excellent article...very helpful and useful advice for any Republican candidate...!
Just ignore these liberal and leftwing democratic morons...They are scared and terrified now....Ha...Ha...!

    • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 9:36:59 PM

Scared and terrified of what? The next election is bound to be a landslide for the dems. When 7 of the 8 republican candidates tie the Iraq war with the war on terror and claim it was the right thing to do, a collective gasp can be heard across the country. Besides, Republicans aren't about making friends. The Republican platform is about hating mexicans, homosexuals and apparently blacks. There's time left however, they'll probably find another demon.
As a republican aren't you ashamed that the Bush plan of revenge for 9/11 seems to be allowing Osama bin laden dying a natural death? As an American I am.

      • Posted By: NewChallenger @ 11/20/2007 11:16:33 PM

Scared and terrified of Republican landsliding victory in next November... I am sure that you (liberals and leftwing democrats) are in a state of denying...If any Republican candidate (except Ron Paul) implements this strategy successfully, then you dems are done...(both Congress and WhiteHouse)...finished, period.
        Simple plan....Ha....Ha...!

        • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 11:57:32 PM

Ron Paul is the only republican candidate that has crossover appeal.

          • Posted By: NewChallenger @ 11/21/2007 12:29:37 AM

            Ha........Ha....!

    • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 7:02:10 PM

If Karl Rove offered to sell you his beach-front property on one of the most beautiful and secluded pieces of shore line in Kansas, would you buy it?

      • Posted By: NewChallenger @ 11/20/2007 7:21:55 PM

Are you Ok...??? Does it have anything to do with this article...I am talking about his strategic advice for Republican candidates to win nomination and the WhiteHouse. It seems to me...his advice is on target...
It is very wise and useful advice for those candidates (except Ron Paul)...Ha....Ha....!

        • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 7:37:45 PM

I'm fine. I thought you were being serious concerning Mr. Rove's advice. I see now. Sorry for not catching the sarcasm.

  • Posted By: dunnhaupt @ 11/20/2007 7:13:33 PM

Hillary carries a lot of baggage, the biggest being Bill whom many do not wish to slip back into the White House for the third time through the back door.

    • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 7:53:33 PM

The "back door" man who was so reviled by the right wing talking heads and the hypocritical Delays Gingriches of the Republican Congress, happens to be a respected statesmen around the world, unlike our current "all hat no cattle" president.

  • Posted By: sensaumer @ 11/21/2007 12:16:30 AM

He makes an obvious dig implying Clinton is vain, then plays innocent. He tries to make Clinton seem arrogant or condescending by stating "we" believe she is unbeatable, when I don't think anyone assumes that...most HIllary supporters that I've spoken to believe it will be a tough fight with a 50-50 change of winning. And it's not that the Democrats are "betting on failure"...they are just choosing to recognize failure when it's staring them in the face. And the hypocrisy of Rove criticizing a Democrat as being so alledgedly calculating, including her accent and laugh, when he's been described as "Bush's brain", an advisor who only let his boss talk in front of syncophant audiences and screened questions...it's pathetic, or evil, take your pick. As far as I'm concerned, Rove left his position in disgrace...now if only we can get him to go hunting with Cheney.

  • Posted By: countryfried @ 11/20/2007 10:25:01 PM

There's only one way to beat Hillary in 08. Well maybe 2. #1 is Team Romney and Giuliani #2 is Team
Giuliani and Romney. That's the only chance, but it's a good one.

  • Posted By: Gary Boldwater @ 11/20/2007 10:48:14 AM

This is unbelievable.... giving Carl Rove a mouthpiece with which he can continue to infect this country with his politics. I have lost all respect for Newsweek.

    • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 11:23:26 AM

Right! How dare Newsweek report on anything that is not tow the party line! The only side that may be reported is OUR side and the rest shall be silenced for the sake of the party!
The Free Speech that is guaranteed to Rove and the Freedom of the Press that is guaranteed to Newsweek should be revoked to preserve free liberal thought.

      • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 1:41:04 PM

If Karl Rove had not committed treason by outing undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame I would agree with you.

        • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 1:56:55 PM

Come on now. You know it was Armitage. Even Novak said so. Does that mean you agree with me?

          • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 2:13:29 PM

I heard what Armitage said. Maybe you should go read the words Patrick Fitzgerald said. To simply believe everything this administration says makes you the most weak-minded, gullible individual to ever walk the earth.

            • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 2:38:57 PM

Here is what Novak said. Novak, btw, is the one who RECEIVED the leak and published it in his column:
"Armitage did not slip me this information as idle chitchat, as he now suggests. He made clear that he considered it especially suited for my column."
My God! If you don't believe the guy that wrote the freakin' column that started it all, there is no hope for you. I'd rather be weak-minded thean close-mionded

              • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 3:22:36 PM

I know who Novak is. He's the printed voice of the neo-con. He writes exactly what you want to hear. So you truly think that's the end of it huh? Armitage is the culprit he claims to be and he should have been the one convicted. Right?
Only flaw in your argument is the Libby lie. It just doesn't fit. There's the VP's copy of the NYTimes where Cheney wrote "Have they done this sort of thing before? Send an Amb. to answer a question? Do we ordinarily send people out pro bono to work for us? Or did his wife send him on a junket?"
That???s where it ALL started. The conspiracy and the treason as vindictive and hateful as it was, would have led to the death penalty not too long ago. The fact that you???re OK with this means you have no credibility. You defend everything the Bush administration does and whine about any heat the moron clearly deserves. You???re judgment is tainted. You???ve drank the Kool-aide. There is no help??? Enjoy the waning months of your lame ducks Presidency.

                • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 4:41:51 PM

If what you say is true, can you tell me why Fitzgerald did not go after Cheney? Actually, he did. The best he could come up with was Scooter Libby. In other words, there is nothing on Cheney.
Can you tell me one thing that Bush has done that you have supported? Clinton did several things I was in favor of, and Bush has done several things that I'm NOT in favor of, so I think it is safe to say that I am not a Kool-Aid drinker. Can you point to a Bush program you support? Maybe you need to take a closer look at what's in your glass.

                  • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 5:42:25 PM

Simple. Libby's lie stopped Fitzgerald from getting to the truth.

                    • Posted By: tiredofpoliticsasusualbydems @ 11/20/2007 10:09:22 PM

You started with an incorrect statement--that Valerie Plame was outed----was she? I don't recall that anyone, Armitage etc, were accused of outing a CIA agent as specified in the relevant laws. You guys talk about spin but can't stop doing it yourselves. Pls show us proof that Valerie Plame was 'outed'.

                  • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 5:47:18 PM

No i cannot think of anything that Bush has done that has been good for the Country. From the war in Iraq to the loss of our civil liberties this administration will go down in history as the worst ever. Sure carter may not have been the greatest but his actions didn't destroy our reputation around the world. Don't you wish you could say the same about Bush? oh yeah right... of course you don't.

My Oh My! Karl Rove talking about how to beat Hillary. The thing he forgot to mention is the Republican Party's tried and true method. "Swift Boat" the Democratic candidate. Lie in your TV ads and print ads. Take cheap shots whenever possible. In other words, do what the Limbaughs and Hannitys and their listeners do. Keep the level of the campaign at the school-yard level and keep most of us ashamed at what has happened to the American political system.

Hello...all extreme liberals and left-wing democrats...!
I know you guys are scared, terrified and threatened...because of this article...Karl put his nail right at your heads...So you are freaking nervous now....You will try to say bad things about Karl and this article because you guys already know if any Republican candidate implements his ideas for next November, then 8 more years of Republican President is for sure(after President Bush).
I feel your pain...liberals and left-wing democrats...ha....ha...! After nearly 8 years you guys got humiliated and terrified by Karl and his strategies... You guys still don't have any clue how to claw back....!
    Poor you--the extreme liberals and left-wing democrats...don't cry...please don't cry....Ha.......Ha....!

And your point is? You've got yours and devil to the hindmost? How exactly does your post enlighten anybody and attempt to sway them towards your way of thinking? This forum should be for intelligent discourse on the issues of the day. What does it say about you that, when provided the opportunity, all you could come up with were taunts and ridicule directed towards those you happen to disagree with? I think you need to go back to kindergarten for refresher training on good manners, sharing, empathy for others, and working constructively towards a common, beneficial goal.

      • Posted By: NewChallenger @ 11/20/2007 2:30:43 AM

Whose goals? your goals? or extreme liberal and leftwing democrats' goals? The Liberal and Leftwing Democrats' goals are to destroy and humiliate this country...You guys are truly morons, period.
My point is that any Republican candidate (except Ron Paul) is better server for this country, not your Moron-Extreme-Liberal-Leftwing-Democratic-Candidates including your manly HillaryClinton Machine...Ha...Ha...!
        End of Discussion.

    • Posted By: rlk42 @ 11/20/2007 12:30:50 PM

Your the one that should be scared. You obviously are unaware of how sick people are of the facist republicans running this country. Here's a reminder: Who took back the House, Senate and the majority of Governorships in the country? Nice try - but republicans will lose, again, in November 2008.

  • Posted By: Gen33 @ 11/19/2007 11:55:53 PM

There are only a couple of comments here that hit the mark. The rest is spin. Hillary is a socialist. If you want her in your wallet vote for her. If you want no U.S.. borders, no such thing as a sovereign country, and a "global community" like J. Lennon wanted (just a tad of a communist), vote for her. If you want a weak U.S. military and no protection of our freedoms, vote for her.

    • Posted By: vacillate @ 11/20/2007 1:20:55 AM

You are wrong. Hillary is not a Socialist, unless you mean she is social and cares about other human beings like Christ. But I don't see her as Christ-like.

      • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 6:15:21 PM

Repubicans like to scream socialism because it's what Rush Limbaugh tells them to say. I for one would rather see my tax dollars go to a form of Universal healthcare than to Iraq.

  • Posted By: Rebecca26 @ 11/20/2007 2:21:23 AM

Obama, Richardson, Edwards, I don't care. I am a life-long Dem (save Perot in '92), but I wouldn't vote Hillary for dog-catcher in a neighboring county. The NY drivers license debacle, planted questions in Iowa, travel office staffers, et al, she is the poster-child of all that is wrong with American politics. Give me Blowhard Biden or Doldrum Dodd, but for Pete's sake don't make me vote for a third party candidate or [gasp] Rudy/Fred/McCain. Anybody, anyone, anything, but Hillary will get this Dem.s vote.

    • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 5:56:53 PM

I disagree. If hillary does become the nominee it should be a cake walk for her to the inaguration, unless Ron Paul becomes the Republican nominee. Then all bets are off.

  • Posted By: iconoclast @ 11/20/2007 5:28:01 PM

I give Rove credit for being relatively honest about his amorality. In recounting the incident about the mirror in his office he intends to tell us something about Hillary Clinton but in fact he tells us more abut himself. For him there is no distinction between truth and fiction or right and wrong. For Rove, the important item is the innuendo, the suggestion of something whether or not one actually says it and can be held to account for something they say. Thus in this piece he asserts in the words of someone else that Hillary Clinton is a "***", that she is manipulative to the point of changing her accent, and, in supposed contrast to her husband (whom he now anoints as a "centrist"), puts forth the farcical notion that she is "leftist."

You can get a further assessment of this guy's character by noting that, like the rat deserting a sinking ship that he is, he does not refer to the man whose political career he directed for so many years not by name but only as "the unpopular president." Somehow he also forgets to take responsibility for his part in running his former boss's legacy, and our country along with it, up on the rocks.

  • Posted By: Blockster @ 11/20/2007 9:53:09 AM

I agree with 1surelypam one hundred percent. I know you aspire to balanced reporting, but to actually give money to a man so responsible for destroying our country's reputation abroad and undermining our constitution and national morality... You should be ashamed!

    • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 11:33:27 AM

Who from the right side of the aisle would you prefer? Is there anyone that is not a left winger that you would accept?

  • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 3:51:54 PM

Comment: Mr. Rove, shouldn't you be teaching the Republican candidates and their political operatives how to use "push polling" and "voter caging"? Your mirror story reminds me of the push polling you did in South Carolina during the 2000 primaries. That was very clever but ruthless. Your campaign polsters called regular voters and asked them misleading questions concerning John McCain's family. Remember this question, and I'm paraphrasing, "Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for John McCain if you knew he fathered an illegitimate black child?" In South Carolina? You were not interested in the numbers. You simply wanted to plant that idea in the voters' minds. That was low, but it worked especially since John McCain was campaigning with his adopted daughter. She was from Asia and dark skinned. Instead of advising the Republicans to reach out to minorities, shouldn't you be demonstrating how "voter caging" purges minority voters from the registration rolls. Niccolo Machiavelli would be proud of you. Lee Atwater, your mentor, would have been proud, too. (Remember his Willie Horton add?) No, wait! Is it true that Mr. Atwater felt remorse and repented just before he died of a brain tumor? Yes, I believe he did, and he issued public and written apologies to many of people he attacked during his political career. So, Mr. Rove, what are you really advising the Republicans to do? After all, you know "The Math".

    • Posted By: bobojo @ 11/20/2007 4:58:59 PM

Right on. I didnt forget about the MCCain episode. This scumbag was also behind ither tactics in earlier years like putting leaflets on cars at Sunday religous services scaring voters that Bushtards opposition would have gay marriage running rampant all over the country.

  • Posted By: feminista @ 11/20/2007 3:05:07 PM

I'm so disgusted that Newsweek has hired Rove to be a commentator! His smarmy sentences are filled with inaccuracies and ideological dishonesty. Maybe I'll have to subscribe to Time instead!

It isn't shocking that a man who will go down in history for corrupting the policitcal system by encouraging homophobia and religious fananticalism would spin, as usual, his view on beating Hillary Clinton. He's really just an ugly used-car-saleman-type who found a career and a party that would receive him for his ability to manipulate and sell the idea of electing an idiot (who America most wanted to have a beer with more than John Kerry) just to get his flatulent self into the White House. I do believe I will be not be renewing my subscription as well.

    • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 4:24:46 PM

I wonder if his Homophobia is a result of his father being gay. Louis Rove was his name. He posed nude in a few publications to show off all his *** piercings. Google it, you can't make this sh** up.

Well well well, aren't these comments telling...95% of the commentors think that Karl Rove is an evil, criminal, manipulating liar, and the other 5% come off as uneducated idiots who can't tell a fact from a hole in the ground. I guess that's good news for 2008 if you're a Democrat.

Personally, I think we should all give Bush, Cheney, Rove, Libby, Rumsfeld, and Gonzales a little bit of thanks, after all they have pretty much guaranteed that no republican will be likely to win the white house in the next 20-30 years. It is a shame however, that 4 or 5 thousand of our kids (soldiers) and a couple of hundred thousand brown people had to die to make this happen. I guess all those dead folks really were fighting for our freedom and didn't even know it.

Now, that being said, NEWSWEEK needs and deserves the chastising that it received for publishing Rove's wretched hate-mongering lies and manipu-babble. If I were the editors, I would ask myself what I'm going to tell my boss when your readership and subscriptions start dropping off for allowing this tripe to be published.

Neocon nazi idiots, don't even start with me. You won't like me telling the truth...
