Hey folks, Scott Mcclellan , the former White House Press Secratary, wrote a book that is coming out in Spring of 2008. Here's an excerpt featured on Public Affairs:

"The most powerful leader in the world had called upon me to speak on his behalf and help restore credibility he lost amid the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. So I stood at the White house briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior-most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.
There was one problem. It was not true.

I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice President, the President's chief of staff, and the President himself."

How wil Mr. Rove spin this one?

I bet $100.00 Archer doesn't believe a word of it.

        You're probably right.

    This a freakin' freak show...

    • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 3:58:25 PM

Sure is, but it's fun. We can so predict what the Bush supporters will argue -- the GOP talking points they picked up from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill The Righteous O'Reilly, Fox News, . . . .

He is the biggest scumbag in politics and the ugliest.

  • Posted By: A.NonyMouse @ 11/20/2007 12:03:27 PM

At the time of the Clinton impeachment, I wondered if Jerry Ford was spinning in his (metaphorical, political) grave. After all, if he had not pardoned Nixon before he went to trial, America would have learned what constituted high crimes and misdemeanors. He could have pardoned him after conviction, like Libby; at least his crimes would have been aired.

That, of course, was before the crimes of Bush, Cheney, Rove and the like. I'm not sure they have outdone Nixon's aims, but they have surely exceeded his ability to control the media, means of communication, and dissent. Everyone who has dissented has been labeled stupid, if not traitorous. Criticizing the President is enough to get your name, address, phone number published online so haters can harrass you forever (remember the kid commenting on SCHIP?).

    • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 12:09:32 PM

Bush controls the media? That's just laughable! Can you tell me the difference between what Scooter Libby was charged with and what Clinton was charged with? No? That's because there is no difference, except that Scooter got punished. Clinton got off light for no other reason than political and media bias. No one labels those on the left traitors until they do treasonous acts like support the enemy by blocking ports and the like.

      • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 3:36:04 PM

Yes, they both committed perjury. However, one lied about a BJ, of no consequence to the general public or our security. The other lied in order to cover up a smear campaign aimed at Joe Wilson. Sad fact is that Valerie Plame was covert CIA agent and worked in the nuclear arms antiproliferation section of the CIA. One her main priorities was Iran and its efforts to become a nuclear power. What will be the repurcussions on American intel and security because she was outed for political machinations? As for punishment, Clinton was impeached by the House but not convicted by the Senate. Libby on the other hand was convicted by a jury of his peers, but his sentenced was commuted by George Bush. He did not spend a day in jail. Oh yeh, he paid a $200,000 fine. Woopdeedoo! Chump change to these guys. The irony in all this is that Clinton's approval ratings surged after impeachment and he left office as the most popular outgoing president since Franklin Roosevelt. How will we remember George Bush?

  • Posted By: rsgordon53 @ 11/20/2007 3:08:32 PM

I'm surprised Rove doesn't discuss push polling or other unethical tactics that are his trademark.

    • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 3:27:09 PM

No he'll never go on about his own dirty tricks. You can look forward to column after column about how smart and right Bush is and How ugly and stupid Hillary is.. First column outta the box an anti-Hillary tirade. Didn't need to be Nostradamus to see that coming.

  • Posted By: buddhabman @ 11/20/2007 12:53:25 PM

The problem with Rove's strategy is that he assumes any of the possible nominated Republicans will call for a change or provide any shred of hope of change from the disastorous war, foreign, and domestic policy that he, Bush and Republicans brought to us. The Worst President Ever , means Rove is the Worst Political Strategist Ever. A stolen election shouldn't be credited to Karl, it should be asterisked like Barry Bonds, or stripped like Marion Jones, and Floyd Landis.

    • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 2:44:16 PM

First, it was Gore who tried to steal the election. Bush won every single recount that followed the rules set by each district. (That Butterfly ballot, btw, was in a Democrat led district). Bush didn't steal anything. However, Gore tried to.
And worst president ever? Evidently, you don't remember Carter! Besides, the economy is going great, the surge is working in Iraq... the only ones complaining are people like you.

      • Posted By: cmicah6:8 @ 11/20/2007 3:11:59 PM

Yeh, the economy is great if you are in the top income bracket. The dollar is losing value, oil is at almost $100 a barrel, a gallon of gas is three dollars and rising, economic growth is slowing, median incomes have remained relatively stagnent since 2000 (but the economy grew), milk is five dollars a gallon, (food, oil, and gas are not included in calculating inflation -- I guess nobody eats or travels anymore), and health care keeps going up while less are insured. And the Congress and this president have led us itno a war of choice, stomped on our Constitution in the name of security, looted our treasury, and destroyed our moral standing in this crazy world of ours..

  • Posted By: irishguy @ 11/19/2007 5:57:15 PM

FREERANGER, YOUR COMMENTS WERE INTERESTING AND SERVE TO UNDERLINE WHY AMERICA CANNOT AFFORD TO TURN OVER REIGNS EVEN FROM AN INEPT ADMINISTRATION WHICH I VOTED FOR TWICE TO A GUTLESS ADMINISTRATION OF LIBERALS. WHETHER WE AGREE OR NOT OVER THE WAR WHY MUST LIBERALS CONSISTENTLY LIKEN THE U.S. TO NAZIS. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING VERY TROUBLING IN THE LIBERAL PSYCHE TO PREFER WOODCHIPPERS IN USE BY SADDAM AGAINST HIS OWN PEOPLE TO REMOVING HIM. WOULD THE OVENS IN GERMANY STILL BE IN USE IF TODAYS LIBERALS HAD BEEN IN POWER?

    • Posted By: ohiomom @ 11/20/2007 2:32:07 PM

Ummmm, the greatest liberal ever, FDR, brought the Nazi's down. The literal translation of the word "liberal" is free thinker. Our founding fathers did not risk, fight, and achieve our freedom only to see us become a nation of cowed sheep. Try telling the last great rebublican, Teddy Roosevelt, that we as a nation have no right to question our leaders, he seemed to think that was outright treason.

  • Posted By: America @ 11/20/2007 9:56:28 AM

How much do you have to hate America to hire this guy? It must be alot. I cant believe greed and short term benefits now override patriotism and loving your country. It's a shame people hate this country so much and could care less about it, by hiring this hate mongerer.

Whatever happened to America standing together?

I guess its loss to short term gains and the misdirecting of the ignorant.

Congratulations Newsweek for becoming the National Enquirer.

    • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 11:29:56 AM

The only one spewing hate here is yourself and those like you. The only ones dividing the country are people like yourself who threw snowballs at Bush's motorcade on his way to the Inauguration. People like you hated the President before he even took office and you have only gotten worse as time went on. Don't project your hateful nature onto those you hate. It just makes you a hypocrite!

      • Posted By: rlk42 @ 11/20/2007 12:21:53 PM

You don't know what you're talking about. How convenient that you forget about the daily diatribe and lies that came out of republicans when Clinton was president. You're the hypocrite. And a conveniently forgetful one at that!!!

        • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 2:00:56 PM

I supported Clinton during the impeachment. Many other Republicans did as well. I supported Clinton in Bosnia, as did many other Republicans and the media (what did Milosovich do that Saddam did not?). You can't say the same about Bush. Clinton's motorcade was not snowballed and booed on his way to become inaugurated. Funny you blame me of selective memory when you forget things like that.

        • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 1:45:22 PM

Clinton lied and no one died.

  • Posted By: ohiomom @ 11/20/2007 1:45:02 PM

Karl Rove should most definately have a voice here, so that the United States of Amnesia can never forget the pary of moral superiority, fiscal responsibility, the fight "against" "activist judges", and the even braver fight to spread democracy abroad while bringing two hundred years of democracy to its knees here-or the architect who was so singularly instrumental in this "achievement". For the record, most good lefties arn't eager for a Hillary nomination, we strongly suspect that while Bill was the greatest politician of this century-he traded being the greatest statesman of the century for that honor. We fear the same from her. We want the country we were told about in grade school back-if it ever really existed.

  • Posted By: Jack3213 @ 11/20/2007 10:39:18 AM

The Democrats will promise you anything to get you to vote for them. Reality is that most of their plans and schemes will fail. The Democrats remind me of a love sick teenager, not thinking clearly, and doing all the wrong things. The bickering and the competition amongst themselves proves they are unable to do a job that calls for strong leadership. Not focusing on what they are able to do, with the experiance they supposedly have, or telling us of the specific successes of their past, is a sure sign they don''t have any at all, which is what a leader should do. On the job training is not in the job description of a USA President, EVER.

    • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 1:37:48 PM

Oh yeah.. A Republican administration has worked so well under this moron. Lies about Iraq's WMDs and ties to 9/11 and a war that's been run so horribly we'll never see the end. Want to make certain that it will continue? Simply vote for one of the 7 Republitards who insist this war was the right thing and has been well run.

  • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 11:44:14 AM

So Newsweek decided to hire the neo-con who committed treason by outing undercover CIA agent Valeri Plame and in his very first article he bashes Hillary Clinton. Wow, how unexpected!
No mention of Bush's illegal war, nothing about the administration failure to capture or kill Osama.. Just Hillary. Hope you're not paying him much because I can imagine subscribers are dropping like flies. If there is any justice in this world, Hillary will become president and Republicans can feel like Democrats did on November 12, 2004.

    • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 12:03:32 PM

Richard Lee Armitage outed Valerie Plame, not Karl Rove. By blaming Rove, you are either proving that you are completely ignorant or a liar. That single statement of yours invalidates your entire post.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were approved by both houses of Congress multiple times. Neither is illegal. Clinton failed to capture Bin Laden as well, and he had a better chance. Clinton did not capture Saddam Hussein. bush did.
      C

      • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 12:31:32 PM

All you know is that Armitage claimed to have been the leaker. Karl Rove made repeated calls to Matt Cooper of Time magazine, outing Valerie Plame. Unfortunately we'll never know the truth because Scooter lied. His lies were in effort to protect someone. Who? nobody knows, even you smart guy.
As for the war in Afghanistan nobody was against it. Even Muslims around the world didn't have a complaint. Unfortunately when OBL was cornered in the hills of Tora Bora, Bush decided Iraq had better targets and lied, yes lied about the reasons for going there. You seem to have no problem with that small fact even though his lies have cost almost 4,000 american lives so far and eventually cost america 2.5 tillion dollars and ALL the standing we enjoyed throughout the world.

        • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 12:44:15 PM

You don't seem to care that Kerry, Clinton (both of 'em), Gore, and many many other Democrats also "lied" about Iraq. Or is when Dems do it, it's bad intel, but when Repubs do it, it's lying? As for Tora Bora, that operation was completed and Bin Laden wasn't there. Many Taliban were captured and killed however.
Finally Scooter was convicted because his recollection of a conversation was different than a reporters. Not because he lied for Rove.

          • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 12:55:46 PM

Archer, you understand that neither John Kerry or Clinton has their own personal CIA correct? I'll assume that you do. The information they were viewing was the cherry picked info the administration allowed them to see. Clearly EVERYBODY was lied to. Our actions in Tora Bora and since have allowed the Taliban to resurge in Afganistan. You're clearly a neo-con, you seem to be the lone fool who considers a lie "different recollection". It's called selective memory, seems to affect most alot of Republicans.

            • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 1:06:38 PM

Uh, Clinton said it while President, so yeah, he had the same CIA that Bush had. Kerry, as a member of the Armed Services Committee, had access to the exact same intel the Pres has. Hillary Clinton is a current member of that committee.
              And I'm a neo-con? Just because I'm not a socialist, doesn't mean I'm a neocon. I smoke pot for Pete's sake!

              • Posted By: madest @ 11/20/2007 1:13:25 PM

Not so Archer. Why do you suppose Colin Powell quit? Ponder that question (or Google it) and pass the joint over here.

        • Posted By: ArcherB @ 11/20/2007 12:46:39 PM

yes, Armitage "claimed" to be the "leaker". Novak confirmed that it was Armitage. Is Novak on Rove's payroll as well? Is there anything that is NOT a Rovian Conspiracy?

  • Posted By: mikecooley @ 11/19/2007 5:02:11 PM

I wonder how fox news will wave the flag once Hillary wins?
Republican deserve everything they are getting....one exception...McCain, he's the real deal.

    • Posted By: rlk42 @ 11/20/2007 1:11:39 PM

He may, at one time, have been the real deal but McCain has sold his soul to the devil. Saying anything to be elected.

  • Posted By: Warhorse @ 11/19/2007 7:13:43 PM

There are some seriously deranged people posting here. Don't like Karl Rove? Tough ***. He beat your spineless asses before, and now you want to whine. Bill Clinton was Josef Stalin reinvented, American-style; one has only to look at the total destruction he wrought on his own military to prove that. And---in a final touch that topped "Uncle Joe"---he left a totally destroyed military and an incendiary situation in the Middle East that was GUARANTEED to be an uncontrollable mess for the next president. God himself could have taken the office of President, it wouldn't have mattered. 9/11 was already happening before Bush got anywhere NEAR the White House, so all you conspiracy theorists, quit smoking that weed already.

The Demcraps proved with the last series of elections that they will do ANYTHING to steal the seat of power in this country, without having done anything to earn it. THEY are the nasty slimy ones, the REAL criminals in this country. Now, I don't particularly care one way or the other about Bush; quite frankly he's a shining example of what political inbreeding has done to this country. But he could be stoned AND drunk completely out his mind, and only have half his brain cells working to boot, and he'd STILL be light-years better than that walking abortion Al Gore. (Tennessee might redeem itself if it elects Fred Thompson to the White House.)

You all need to just go to Canada; maybe they'll appreciate your brand of sniveling and cowardice there. But you are NOT Americans, and you can all ***.

Hey War Ass - why aren't you suited up and on your way to Iraq? Don't like democrats? Tough ****. You have a choice - get over it or get used to it. Democrats will win in 2008 because people now know that republicants are incapable of governing. Period. End of story.

    • Posted By: master_of_my_domain @ 11/19/2007 9:19:25 PM

The frustration and the sarcasm are the result of Bush and Rove exploiting people's lowest emotions for political power. I wish that "all we have to fear is fear itself". Unfortunately, that's not enough for Bush and the current Republican candidates.

The job of U.S. President is really a tough one demanding lot of mental and physical strength and stamina. The person holding the job must have super human qualities in every respect. The world peace and prosperity depends up to a great deal on the moves made by United States of America.
At the world stage rivals of Mrs. Clinton are more or less new comers and unknown. It is very difficult to predict whether the first four years in the office they will spend learning the ???Job??? or discharging their duties in the manner expected of a US President.
Mrs. Clinton has a few advantages over her rivals. She is well educated, may have learnt a lot and acquired good experience from the success and failure of her husband Mr. William Jefferson Clinton during his presidency and above all will have his continued back room invaluable support from him during her own tenure.
There is no doubt that Bill Clinton is a very intelligent, hard working, well educated person and above all a practical and good diplomat. He is a well liked person all over the world and is a well traveled person.
The husband and wife duo will be most suitable occupants of White House and with their background will bring more peace and prosperity to the people of America

"So totally destroy that just one year later that that army fought 2 wars in 12 months? We did win the wars by the way. " And which wars would those be? The one in Somalia that Billy Bubba carefully constructed into a loss for us, at the cost of our best soldiers? Or the one he conveniently started with a few cruise missiles over Bosnia, on the eve of his impeachment proceedings?

It's "totally destroyed", by the way. Quit smoking crack. It's not good for your spelling abilities.

You're delusional. Do us all a favor and get the hell off the internet.

"Bush has compounded the problem by launching a war in Iraq that was completely misguided that has destabilized the region (before completing the task in Afghanistan and bringing Osama to justice) further. Just because those of us who are thinking patriots and don't blindly goose step when some rich elite oilman and his cronies want us too, doesn't make us any less American. Judging by your post, you would have done well carrying a torch in Nuremberg back in 1933--same mentality of blindly following along and questioning the patriotism of those who dare to speak their mind."

Two words: *** you. And that ***-juggling thundercunt you call a mother.

I am a patriot. I've already fought for this country; invested a considerable amount of time in it's defense. And I'm ashamed that I ever defended morons like the ones posting on this page. The Hitler charge is the same exhausted accusation that all liberals use when confronted with the outrageous fallacy of their actions; conservatives are all brownshirts and us poor put-upon liberals are just trying to help remedy tyranny. Of course, the liberals would know what tyranny is; it's the only way they know how to lead anybody.
Disagree with them, and YOU'RE the one that takes the long walk down the basement steps to the bottom landing. Liberals never have to face the people they hurt...pretty much like Beria and the KGB that came after him.

"Rich elite oilman"? This is worn out too. If Bush was really some kind of oil-based dictator, he certainly wouldn't hide it. We'd all be driving SUVs and paying a nickel a gallon. Liberals just can't make up their damn minds: Either Bush is the worst dictator that ever lived---worse than Idi Amin or Hitler---or he's the biggest moron that ever walked. You can't have it both ways; make up your mind.

The war was never misguided. But you are. Quite frankly, me and my fellow soldiers have had it with you, putting a knife in our backs the way you do. Next time the terrorists come calling, we'll give 'em your address and then you can tell them all about how you've got nothing worth fighting for. As for me and mine....we'll be off doing something we actually enjoy. Like fishing. Or maybe actually staying home with our wives (or husbands, as the case may be) and our kids. Helluva lot more enjoyable than mucking about in a sandbox for a pack of TOTAL *** INGRATES LIKE YOU.

Colin Powell lost ALL credibility with his speech to the United Nations. He'd never overcome such lies in a general election.
