President of the Debate Team
Hillary's best line in the debate, says Sheehan: "They attack me because I'm ahead." This was slightly different from the formulation she had used immediately after the Philadelphia debate, when she said, "They attack me because I'm winning." That was not properly alliterative, says Sheehan, a graduate of the Yale Drama School, and it went one inch too far in the tricky world of gender politics. It felt a little like braggadocio, whereas "a woman ahead" is a little more self-effacing.
Hillary characterized John Edwards's attacks on her as throwing mud and coming right out of the Republican playbook. But she doesn't gain anything from engaging in a shouting match with Edwards. Keeping him in the race prevents the anti-Hillary vote from coalescing around Obama. In 1984, Walter Mondale, the Hillary of his day in terms of fund-raising and endorsements, beat Gary Hart, an Obama forerunner, by a substantial margin in Iowa. But other candidates fell by the wayside, and everybody who was not for Mondale coalesced around Hart, giving Mondale a real scare on his way to the nomination.

Comment: These same polls said the same exact thing when she ran for the senate, and they were proven wrong. I have my own theory about this: people say they do not like her or she is too polarizing, because they have never met her or taken the time to find out exactly how much she has accomplished in her public service career. These people have an intense dislike for her based on nothing more than biased media reporting. Nothing more than propaganda based on a hatred by the media and republicans for her husband. Many republican senators had this same dislike for her as she was entering the senate, but soon found her a very effective and likeable senator, willing to compromise to accomplish things. If this is opportunism, then I am all for it since it gets things done. As for taking money from washington lobbyists, I defy you to show one piece of legislation that she has authore or co-sponsored ( and yes, there are nearly 100 pieces of them) where she voted for something that would favor a corporation over working class people. Further, how much different is it that Obama takes money from state lobbyists - whom he HAS pushed legislation for - than Hillary taking money from Washington lobbyists? You also mention her papers- that are in control of the National Archives- yet you fail to mention all of Obama's missing papers from his years as a state legislator. (see his Meet The Press interview for confirmation of these last 2 points) To help you understand your dilemna about why democrats would chose a moderate over a left-winger, most people in this country, be they democrats, independants or republicans are very much the middle of the road on issues. Only the most radical elements, unable to compromise to get things done are far left or far right. You only need to look to the current administration to see how much gets accomplished when you feel so strongly about your position that you are unable to compromise. I'd call compromise an asset that benefits the people of this country as opposed to your characterization of it as opportunism. You mention polls, but you fail to mention that they were taken right after 2 weeks of intense media hype about her Philly debate performance. I think you will find the next polls out will have her back on top. I really don't think the media is conspiring against me in anyway, as you put it. But you aren't being very honest if you say that the media is not scrutinizing her and parsing her statements more than any other candidate. Finally, I don't know how aware you are of politics and the things that get said in a campaign. But if politicians were to hold what someone said in a campaign speech against the person that said it after the election, we would never get anything done in Washington. You need only to do some reading on what republican senators had to say about Hil;lary after her first couple of years in the senate.

Comment: Even tho Hillary Obvama and Edwards get alol the time and focus in the debates there is no doubt in my mind nbthat the only one who really won was Dennis Kucinich. There isn't a nickels worth of difference between Hillary Obama or Edwards. They all get the big money from corporate mogulos and why do you suppose that is. Becasue they w ant change? Hah!
