Why didn't he put his hand over his heart that day with Bill richardson? If your an American you damn well better put your hand over your heart!!!!!!!!!! AMERICA LOVE IT OR GET THE HELL OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent 21 years in the Armed Services to defend the right of people to place their hand over their heart or not. Can you say the same? Standing with respect during the national anthem seems better than sports fans who see who can cheer the loudest and longest during the last line.
I refuse to gauge one's patriotism or love of America by whether he/she places a hand over the heart. Consider the number of times Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc. have pledged their allegiance to this great country of ours. Yet not one of them, NOT ONE, was willing to put themselves in harm's way when given the opportunity. "Let someone else fight and die in my place," say Bush, Cheney, et al.
I fail to see the significance of placing one's hand over one's heart as a measure of patiotism or love for America. Consider the number of times Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc. have pleadged their allegiance to this great country. Their pledges don't mean much to me. Not one of them cared enough to get into a uniform and firht when they had the opportunities. Let someone else die, they say.
I am amused by the arguments that Obama has not accomplished anything. Oh wait, these are not arguments, mostly just Clinton hacks posing hit and run questions. I can only assume ignorance; the alternative explanation is typical Clinton politicking.
I will mention what is, in my opinion, the single most important thing Obama has accomplished -- it's called bipartisan ethics reform (new restrictions on lobbyists and full transparency for earmarks). Of course Clinton would want to dismiss that accomplishment; not only was she too polarizing to introduce it, she would be nowhere without her Washington lobbyists.
I choose the candidate with experience improving America, not experience fighting and losing to Republicans.
In response to the person identifying himself as "bear" : This is a free country you inbred moron!!! If any American doesn't want to recite the pledge, or put their hand over their heart, or even burn the flag, it is afforded to them by THE CONSTITUTION!!! It kills me how you, and people like you, who call themselves "patriots", are so oblivious to this fact. A true patriot never questions the freedoms granted to us as Americans. There is nothing more un-American than chastizing others for practicing their right to free speech. It seems that the people in this country who always coin themselves as patriots, are often extremely nationalistic and a bit fascist as well. True patriots stand up for the rights of their American brothers and sisters, they do not beat them down because they disagree with them. If you want to disagree with Obama on any of his policies, or his ideology in general, that is acceptable. For heaven's sake though people, don't try to beat a person down because they don't participate in trivial rituals. I like to think that this country stands for way more than things like the pledge of allegiance, and/or the national anthem (i.e. brotherhood, mutual respect, good-will, etc.). If we lose these things, than we end up being hypocrites who stand for nothing. Bear your comment about Obama was SEVERELY un-American. You can do better than that brother.
truly, the only honest canidate in the lot of them, both Dems and Reps is Dennis Kucinich. Too bad America is so complacent...do we really want another Bush/Clinton White House?? I loved Bill and used to admire Hillary, But no longer. She is a war monger, is beholden to big corporate money, and no longer supports serious change to America's FAILING health care system.
He needs to attack her all out. She and hubby, who is now cuddling up to Papa Bush, are the same as the Bushes. Obama needs to point this out - her approval of the Iraq War and hiding behind the "we believed the President" statement when all the world new he was lying - her cuddling up to right wing interests like Rupert Murdock and the defense industry, her 2005 approval of the new bankruptcy law which is destroying millions of middle class lives. Hit her off guard with some of this. I myself used to be Hillary's biggest admirer and now loath her, and am greatly offended when I see her husband cuddle up with the Bushes after what THEY did to him for 8 years. Word of advice to Obama, however: If you catch her in the polls, avoid flying in small private planes, as serious neo-con rivals have an uncanny habit of dying that way - Paul Wellstone, JFK Jr and the like.
I assume by your post, Bear, that you're an American. If so, you represent America and its educational system poorly with your ineptitude with grammar and the English language. You seem to define American patriotism by hand gestures. I think we might be better defined by what we bring to the world, and how we present ourselves-- particularly because we have the very good fortune of some of the best education in the world, which should enable us to think well and communicate articulately (as Obama does). In this light, you appear to be a very poor representation of America. If you love America, please make use of its educational system.

While Obama's opponents have quickly rebutted his issues in 30 second bits, does this add to the dialogue of political exchange or condense issues to trivial matters worthy of 30 second or less comments. When will the media demand EACH of the DEBATES be tailored to a single major isssue with real material to be debated amongst the candidates. Let's see really what the candidates stand for instead of ambiguous 30 second answers to the public's questions. thank you. d.bremer
Spot-on analysis... campaigning rhetoric doesn't lend itself to the lengthy "whys" as does a simplistic "what" that is composed of a couple of zinging catchy memorable words. Plus, as the last Presidential elections have shown us -- rock throwing and accusations not refuted with vigor produce vial administrations. As pointed out in this article Obama must bring the sharp/pointed responses NOW!
The same love affair they have with all the candidates, its call reporting.
Hay Boojew49 too bad you can'tell out and out one-sided political propaganda from real reporting. I'm sure you are a big fan of Chris Matthews and Meatball ,Opps I mean Hardball. He'sanother Obama firster.
Huh? For three weeks straight, the first sentence Chris Mathews spoke had Clintons name in it, I was starting to think he had a secrete crush, and quit watching him because of it.
Bush has left a huge mess for this country and for the world...HIllary has not said anything concrete about how to get out of the war, fund health care, except regurgitate her health care plan from 1993 which was not feasible...and is still not.....NCLB is total failure....what does Hillary see as the future of education for our children??? Hillary is a waffler and changed her mind every time a new poll comes out....here in NY she supported aspects of Spitzer's plan to document immigrants via a photo ID....this plan is supported across the aisle, it is bipartisan, and intelligent people support it....as soon as the conservative fear-mongerers pressured Spitzer to drop it....Hillary immediately came out and said she didn't agree with it, either....Why can't she make her own decisions....she planted a question in Iowa concerning the global warming we are experiencing, and STILL didn't have a response.....she is a crook which took illegal campaign contributions until she was caught....she was involved in Whitewater...Rudy is not any better....only mudslinging, lies, and false promises get you elected.....you can even start a war with lies in this country.....
Immigrants to this country produce most of our GDP, immigrants start the most businesses, without immigrants, most of our graduate and doctoral programs would get shut down...Hillary's response to immigration reform is to support Bush in building a giant wall to isolate us even further....Bush would not support Kyoto but has done everything in his power to hurt our economy and our future...his faith-based approach to safe sex, or rather denial, has produced the highest rates of STDs in fifty years.....look it up.....Obama supports intelligent immigration reform, with a concrete plan for people to become citizens....don't fall for for mudslinging, vote on facts.....media only supports Rudy and Hillary, we do not hear all the other more intelligent candidates....and they don't want you to.....Hillary even supports Bush going to war in a third front, even though the whole rest of the world does not agree with the US....our "coalition" in Iraq is not just US......look at how Bush has destroyed our economy, our health care, our environment, exacerbated our energy crisis.....and please don't make the same mistake again of anointing another dynasty...our country and the world cannot afford it.....
I am glad you see the truth about Hillary. I am not completely sure about how lack of immigrants can shut down graduate and doctoral programs. However, I agree with everything else that you said.
Hillary is really a much worse version of her husband who was much more discrete (in more ways than one : ) ) and subtle when it came to politics and triangulation. Frankly, sometimes she acts like a cold b****.
As for her so called "experience", I just want to ask "WHAT EXPERIENCE". Being a Senator gives you almost no experience in running a government unlike governors and in foreign policy, the Senate has given up their traditional roles and expertise in foreign policy to the White House, which plain and simple sucks at it.
Obama is the only one who tries to not use dirty politics and tries not to pander to special interest groups like Hillary does. Edwards tries to be the populist candiate but he turned from a moderate Southern senator to a angry liberal populist too fast for it to be real.
I guess because he takes money fromstate lobbyists and not federal lobbyists that makes him better. Does not use dirty poilitics? How laughable is that??? Attack, attack, attack, and never once state any positions that your candidate holds that would qualify him!!
All this talk and Dems Or Repub wont fix the Mess our fashist President has created he has destroyed the middle east and hes doing his best to destroy the US with gas prices and natural gas both uo 40% over last year. Why arnt the people so concerned with getting this job doing something to save America you know it cant run on auto pilot weve been ignored since this Boob was elected and look at the mess were in.
Any person runnlng for President should be calling for his impeachment along with Darth Vadar these two guys are no more qualfied for the job than the man in the moon.
lol at the Clinton campaigners... Want some cheese with that whine :)
Maybe, Abuelito, you didn't read Obama's explanation on why he doesn't wear a lapel. He is a truer patriot than you since he knows that patriotism is a feeling, not something that comes and goes depending on what you wear. Kudos, Mr. Obama. We need more people like you to counter hicks like Mr. Abuelito.

Decent and fair coverage. One issue which will define the race in the next few weeks is trust vs. claimed experience. If experience is most important why did Hillary failed to reform health care when her husband was in the White House in charge of the executive brance and Congress was controlled by the Democrats. Also If experience was most important why did Hillary support the war wholeheartedly when she had access to National Intelligence which indicated no need to rush to war..
Well, as for the failed health care, which you want to lay at Hillary's feet, it was the billions of dollars spent by the health-care industry that kept health care off the table. Did her plans have short-comings? Yes, I'd agree with that. But, at least she tried to do something. What has obama done? He now offers a plan that won't even cover nearly half the people that don't have insurance...EXPERIENCE vs. rookie that falls short. You like to claim it was a rush to war, all the fault of Hillary's one vote. How disingenuous is that? The only person that rushed to war was George W. Bush! He told congress AND the American people that he woud exhaust all diplomatic means first, only to prove to be a liar. That is why when he first got the vote, more than 70% of the public supported him, but now only 30% do. Why do you try to lay this war on Hillary? Is that your only arguement for supporting Obama? What has he done, except give speeches that make you tingle inside? It takes a little more than knowing how to give a speech to be able to run this country.
Most of us in the civilized world who truly do want good government are amazed at the unbridled, irrational immersion in the exuberance of hatred in these comments. What is to be gained by this Rove-like divisiveness which has done so much to errode unity in America and to desimate its respect elsewhere as a lighthouse in a dark world? If we are looking for responsibility in leadership, sanity in economics and peace both at home and abroad, this is certainly not the way to pursue those ends.
Well said, I completely agree with the sentiment of division. It really is at the heart of a growing problem here in America!!!!!
Obama should strike Hillary Clinton hard. When you encounter a ruthless opponent, this is the only way.
The name recognition does play a major role in Hillary's front runner status.
If thinking clearly, what Hillary has done for this country, even for the state I belong to, deserves her front runner status? Simply comparing her to her fellow colleagues such as Biden and Dodd, her accomplishments are slim in comparison.
She was so calculating for each of her senate votes, worrying that any vote may haunt her in her presidential aspiration. This alone makes me have second thoughts about her as a candidate. I simply want our public servants/elected officials to be less self-serving and more concerned about the country in large. Ironically, for someone so calculating as Hilllary, her vote for Iraq war has created just opposite result for her. But the truth is that she should vote for the best interest of the country, should never vote for the sake of her political gains.
Contrary to Hillary, Obama doesn't have any baggage. He is a leader with broad-minded personality. Every time I see Obama speaking, I see a leader who is intelligent, always trying to appeal to my rationale, a consensus builder who will unit the country and bring people with different visions together.
In addition, I am craving for new leadership. I don???t want another political family to reside in the White House. I simply believe that America is a place filled with talents. Clintons have their term already. This time the opportunity should give to someone else. I want a new leader to move the country forward. A new leader for a new era.
Exactly what votes are you looking at? You claim she has no accomplishments in the senate! You obviously don't know a thing about senator clinton, otherwise you would have noted the nearly 100 pieces of legislation that she has AUTHORED or CO-AUTHORED. A fresh face? Someone that can unite the country? First let me tell you how laughable it is to give someone such an important job just because he is a fresh face. Would you even hire someone as a babysitter without first making them prove themselves as competent? And this uniting thing is the most hillarious statement I have ever heard! Who is he going to unite? The far left of the democratic party? He is so far to the left on every major issue thaqt he has absolutely no chance of bringing the independants ond moderate republicans on board with him. Wake up, before it is too late!!
"What is Barama doing standing with the American flags in view behind him? He refuses to wear a flag lapel pin or put his hand over his heart at the playing of the National Anthem. He is not a partiot or worthy to be president. He is a hypocrit!"
Do you remember 6 years ago? Do you remember seeing the then former first lady Clinton at the memorial services? When the national anthem (no, it isn't capitalized) was sung, she stood there without her hand over her heart and a great big scowl on her face. Tell me she isn't a patriot and not worthy to be president. I dare you.
She isn't a patriot and yes, she is not worthy to be president.
American voters want to hear short and simple answers to this worlds complexe and diverse proublems, Hence Goerge Bush the greatest simpleton of our time. elected because he professed christ, while knowing really nothing of him,the master of three sentance solutiones and ever eager to lie about, maligne, and smear his opponts. Unfortunatly he knew how to win the presidential political game; and unfortunatly for us Bush really believed in his three sentence solutions. I will happily vote for a guy who has a real sences for the nature of the proublems we face but has to be coached on how to play the game.
