The U.S. military says it will pull 5,000 troops by mid-December

Comment: I' M UPSET ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY SAY THAT THERE WOULD A DEPARTURE OF TROOPS THIS MONTH . I JUST FOUND OUT THE MY SON-IN- LAW IS BEING DEPLOYED TODAY. HIS TRAINING JUST STARTED ON MON. WHATS THAT ABOUT ? IT SHOULD OF BEEN 30 DAYS OF TRAINING THEN TWO WEEKS OFF FOR THE HOILIDAYS. OUT OF THE BLUE THE MEN ARE BEING UP-ROOTED AND SHIPPED OUT FASTER THEN A BLINK. SOMETHING IS GOING ON DOWN THERE THAT THEY ARE NOT TELLING US. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT?
Comment: Really, are you that stuid enough to think anybody will believe that? And of course new troops would be snet in and older troops would be sent home. You don't just keep the same soldiers there. I'm starting to doubt that you really have a son in the military.
Comment: Could you connect them for me, HA? I would love to hear that.
Comment: The middle easts' most precious resourece is oil a.k.a. Blackwater. Let's connect the dots.
Comment: It's actually the surge in trained Iraqi troops that will make up the difference to keep the peace in troubled provinces. Rod should factor that in but of course he's myopic as anyone. One can reasonably ask if IA is at last ready but one can't question that there are many fully manned brigades of mixed Iraqi soldiers available. And there are 12 or 13 provinces out of 18 that have relatively little combat and where sectarian struggle is played out in politics not street violence. Salahaddin province I believe also border the quiet Kurdish north so the Peshmerga will work beyond their region with locals to keep the baddies from catching hold
Comment: To robertb689, I see your point , but what is the degree of trust (not confidence) that you have in the trained Iraqi troops?
Comment: One of my friends is in the military and deployed and she said that this whole troop withdrawal stuff is B.S. She said that this supposed withdrawal is troops that were schedualed to come home anyways by Christmas but of course our wonderful government isn't going to tell us that because they want us to think that they're doing so well over there that we don't need them there anymore..yup.
Comment: THANKS FOR POST THE INFO. WHERE IS YOUR FRIEND STATIONED?
Comment: nawawimohamad your comment "They went there primarily for money, for sustenance. There is no point being heralded as heros when you somehow lost something that affects your life." is a crock! No soldier is getting rich in Iraq. They received a measly $350 a month combat pay to be shot at by insurgents. They receive their basic pay tax free as long as they as in Iraq. They are heros because they are serving proudly and with distinction because they love their country and are willing to sacrifice their lives to maintain our great way of life.
Comment: To proudly_serving. I think you are being ridiculous! I don't agree being shot at for a measly $350 a month is an act of heroism. It is either an act of desperation or an act of stupidity. The soldiers should all go back home. Leave the Iraqis alone, if they want to anhilate each other, let them be! Why should the American soldiers die there for nothing - just because the President ordered them to go for some B.S reasons.

Nawawi American not like you muslem to only think about money ,the made America so great that evrybody wants to to live in America like you and other Medeleast guys .the only problem is they do not want muslem like you to change the USA. . we as Iranian know what you muslem did with us so the American they do not want to have the same.
Comment: To Iranazad. You said you are an Iranian, but I think you are not. You are MORE American than the American themselves. You have lost all your roots! Why not read about Kunta-Kinte. You are enjoying your life at home, and just giving lip service to the desperate soldiers! The soldiers should all come back home and forget about the B.S of being heros! or (to make proudly_serving happy) soon to be forgottened heros!
Comment: The soldiers are tired. No matter how heroic they are, they are only ordinary humans with families. If they have other choices they would not like to go to Iraq or any other war zones. They went there primarily for money, for sustenance. There is no point being heralded as heros when you somehow lost something that affects your life. There are scars of war in diffrent forms. The returning soldiers will then have to face with all the after-effect of wars. They are the peolple who are afflicted by war directly. Like other war veterans, they will soon be neglected, gradually lost and eventually forgottened. They are the people will be really lonely. Bush like all politicians have not much conscience, he will feel down no doubt having to relinquish the post of president (but he only will miss the pomp, the attention, the temporary power, the white house and the feeling of being the so-called "most powerful man on earth" thing), but no, not guilty and definitely not lonely.
Comment: nawawjmohhamad your comment about soldiers going to Iraq for money, for sustenance is a crock. A soldier goes to Iraq because he is ordered to go to Iraq. Believe me no soldier is getting rich over there. The only difference in pay is that they get a measley $350 a month to get shot at by insurgents and they are not paying taxes. And yes, they are heros because they serve with pride and distinction so Americans can sleep at night knowing their freedoms will not be taken away.
Comment: Australian PM loses election and now the US draws down its troops in Iraq. Do you think the neocons are losing faith in their long drawn out plans for world domination and launching their religious crusade for all to live according to their point of view. With Blair gone, Howard gone, and other world leaders who supported Bush, gone, the world sees Bush as he truly is - a lonely man who will be denied his vaunted glory in the name of God and neoconservatism.
Comment: Yes, Blair is replaced by Brown and Britain's commitment to the region including Afghanistan and Iran interdiction remains the same. As gtntz said - not as lonely - Sarkozy is friendly if not a neocon and Merkel goes with the flow which is favoring a strong response to both Iranian and Russian provocations.
Comment: Harry Reid: "The surge is not accomplishing anything"
Nancy Pelosi: "The surge has not accomplished its goal"
3d Brigade, you have proven these people wrong.
Get home safely. You are American heroes.

Comment: You might want to check the news.
By all accounts, even Newsweek, the "surge" has been a success.
Bush is not as lonely as he was 6 months ago.
