I believe that ancient Muslim sites must be preserved. It's the only proof that Muslims were ever there in Israel.
In Jerusalem, digging into the past only fuels the fight over the future.

From what you have said, you are niether rathional or understanding of the history of the people in the middle-east. Just because you do not believe in the God of the Bible, does not mean that the Jewish ancestory did not happen, while in fact, Archeology has proven that the Jewish people are rightful air to the Land. And it very funny how the Bible predicts this sourt or behavior towards Jerusalem and the Jewish nation Thousands of years before the 1948-49 re-establishment of Isreal. The Palastinian people do not like the Jews because of their belief that Christ will come and conqure the world through a very specific mount. The palastinian cemented the wall where Christ is to come through. Like it is going to stop Christ. Come-on. They hate the Jews for this reason and of course, many more. The only poisoning i see on this world is everyones hate towards the Jews and the True God of the Bible.
I really hope people study more often then speak like they are the evolutionary scientists
God Bless and know that Christ told us to love our enemy, something EVERYONE should start doing.
and people who hate/don't-like the God of the Bible/Christ are truly the ones who are very spitefull and hateful people

Muslims deny that Jews lived in Israel in ancient times, but they never checked out the facts. The Jews were contemporaries with the Babylonians, Assyrians, Akaddiens, Ugarites, Hitites, and Pharaonic Egyptians and these people warred with and wrote about the Jews and carved their images in stone for their histories. The Muslims are latecomers. They conquered Jerusalem in the 7th century, and their claims of Israel being their ancient home are lies. It's a lie that Mohammed ascended into heaven from the Dome of the Rock. He had been dead 50+ years by the time the Dome was finished in 691 CE. In the Quran, chapter 13, 100-104 Allah tells Muslims Israel is the land of the Jews. The Muslims want the Holy Land of the Jews and Christians, and they kill to get it. Jerusalem is not Islam's 3rd holiest site. It wasn't even mentioned in the Quran and Mohammed was never in Jerusalem, but the Arabs/Muslims claim it is so.
mbrooks--
there are canaanites who would disagree with you about who lived their first.
it is no longer about who lived there first, as you well know. it is about how justly everyone who is there can now live. if the jews were living justly with the muslims, unilaterally or by consensus, a greater number of peaceable things would be going on.
To my American eyes the solution is obvious. Plow the city into the sea and move on. Once the collective pile of rubble that is Jerusalem is gone, perhaps these people might grow up and stop slaughtering each other for their archaic and obsolete belief systems. Zionism and Jihadisim are poisoning this planet and will be buried under the sands of time, as where their precious temples and mosques. The ONLY issue left to discuss is whether we non zealots are going to permit the rest of us to be dragged down with them.
I don't know what religion you follow, if any, but you are a disgrace to your fellow Americans. A comment like that is totally ignorant on so many levels. First of all, neither Palestine, nor the Muslim Religion existed before the first Jews enterend Jeruselem; so even without archaelogical evidence, it is pretty obvious who the land ORIGINALLY belonged to; whether they later had to leave it is another issue. The fact that they did and someone else came in is one of the main problems here. Secondly, Jeruselem is a MAJOR World historical center, with so many culters passing through there it is impossible to name them all. But to point out a few, how about the Greeks, Romans, Europeans, slaves brought in from all over the world during antiquity who later settled there (as they did so many other parts of the world) people from the Orient, and all the religious groups that follow all those people through the mellenia? To say nothing of the fact that the World's THREE major Religions (not just two of them, but ALL three) were there and consider it a Holy Site? Judaism did not start there, but became strongest there; It is their Holiest City. Christianity started there and it is one of it's Holiest Cities and the Muslim Faith also calls it one of theirs as well. All three of these Faiths are "People of the Book"; something the Muslims refer to us as. That means we all believe in the Old Testament. However, we follow different paths when it comes to more modern aspects of our Faiths. It is those aspects and peoples' intolerence to others' beliefs not being the same as theirs that causes a lot of the problems. But not ALL of them.
Maybe you should learn a lot more before you shoot off your mouth. How would you like it if someone said people should come in and plow a city of OURs into the sea and move on? Oh, wait, someone tried; with airplanes instead. We didn't like it all that much, did we?
And what faith does your American heart follow? If it is Christianity of any sort, you don't know much about your OWN religion. Christians also call Jeruselem the home of their Religion and a Holy Site. Muslims and Jews may not get along all that well (or at least, not the fanatics; but then the Muslims do know (or at least the ones who actually follow their religion properly and don't go in for Jihads, etc.) that all three of the World's major Religions (no offenses to any others, but those three are the largest ones) follow The Book, or are People of the Book, as Muslims call us. All three of us, including Christians, believe in the Old Testatment; it is just in the newer parts of the separate Faiths do things differ. We all have so much in common, why can't we just remember that???
Besides, the Jews were there first, then were forced to leave for some reason. Then the Muslims moved in. Palastine didn't even exist when the origianl Jewish people made their way into Jeruselem, nor did the Muslim faith. As for plowing down one of the World's oldest cities, why in the name of whatever God you believe in would you want to do that??? Forget the religious aspect, what about the historical significance? So much of the World's history passed through there: Greek, Roman, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, European, and on and on... That city was a crossroad for the World; you can't just raize it.
Yes, I do feel bad for the woman whos home is being damaged and I think that the Israeli gov't should give reparations. However, the land being excavated lies in the state of Israel and it is their choice to dig or not to dig. In fact, it is the law. Archaeology in Israel is extremely important to me and I think it is one of the most importing aspects of Judaism.
Israel would NEVER destroy Islamic artifacts, and that is exactly what they have done at the Temple Mount. This is infuriating. Sharon just visits the Temple Mount and the fanatics start the intifada. The muslims basically destroy part of the holiest place to jews but nothing happeneds to them, the jewish civilians arent out murdering innocent muslims by detonating bombs.
The israelis are always blamed for everything and made out to be the bad ones. everyone should be treated equally.
The Muslims are afraid of what they will find to prove Christianity. Why are they so against it if they aren't afraid. God gave the Jews their land and we have no right to give it to the Palestins as they have no claim to it. Why doesn't Iran gave them a place? There will never be peace in the area because they Arabs won't rest until Jews don't exist.
I think that digging up ancient artifacts in and around the area of the Dome of the Rock will eventually help to establish a authentic timeline of the true and accurate history of that part of Jersuleum, which is called the Old City, and in all truth and honesty whoever is found to be the rightful owner of that land should have that land turned over to them, we can only accomplish this though the use of archealogy, ancient history, religious history, and modern technology.
Palastine belongs Palestinians. Let us remember that Jews are not a race but rather an organized group. A group of people in the same way the Mafia is a group of people. The disgust fair minded people hold for Zionism is similar to that held toward the Mafia. It is wrong and evil to take things that don???t belong to you. It was wrong to steal and occupy the Palestinian???s land and most fair minded people find Zionist disgusting for doing so. Claiming that an imaginary god anointed your group as more special than the rest of us and gave the land to your group thousands of years ago does not impress fair minded people as reasonable and rational. Zionist will have to live with the fact that the bulk of us fair minded people despise the evil deeds done by this arrogant, greedy and deceptive group of people.
Cates you are contradicting yourself throughout your entire opinion, you cannot claim both that your are fair-minded and Jews insult disgusting, arrognat, greedy, deceptive. It is 100% UN-fair to claim that a religion that currently isn't blowing up both friend and foe in the name of their "imaginary" god is in even remotely the same group as organized crime associations! Let's compare apples to apples here. I think it would have been fairer to say the AARP (American Association of Retired People) or even your local chamber of commerce.
Jewish people also don't claim to be any more special than any other organized religion. Christians have their own reward for following their rules, Muslims are rewarded for following theirs, Buddhists are rewarded for following their rules. ALL religions think their God or way of living makes them more special than the rest of us.
Fair minded people do not judge, do not name call. You do both. Your anti-semitic remarks are small minded and do not impress any feelings of kinship between you and the rest of us fair minded people who thought your comments were out with the first half of the LAST century with the defeat of the Nazi party. And by the way, who did your ancestors steal their land from?
I find it odd that in your one sided, pointed response that you not only a) imply that "the rest of us" share your opinion b) can make such comments referring to yourself as fair-minded. You presented a very closed-minded argument attacking a religious groups beliefs with insults. Fair minded people are not so quick to judge or accuse and don't shout insults at people for holding beliefs contrary to their own. And comparing an organized, widley accepted religion to an organized crime group is childish, especially since you are name calling one of religions that is NOT out committing mass murders in the name of their "imaginary God".
Jewish people do not claim anything different from the other organized religions out there as far as being anoited as "special". Christians are rewarded with their own heaven, Muslims are rewarded with their own version. Everyone thinks their own religion is far more special than the lowly rest of us and their god will reward them for following his commandments, whatever they may be.
Your anti-semetic insults are disgusting. Fair-minded people thought no one else was using these tired, rejected arguments after the Nazi party was defeated in the first half of the last century.
The question in my mind is, does Israel really want peace? For decades there have been peace talks. Nobel prizes have been given. But has Israel followed through with the UN resolutions that are the bedrock of those negotiations. The answer is No.
Terrorism in any form is wrong. Hamas is wrong in their tactics. Ultimately Hamas will fail. But, so will Israel. Israel has placated world opinion while diplacing the Muslim and Christian Palestinian population through terrorist tactics. Terrorism manifests itself in other ways besides suicide bombings. Driving the Palestinians into refugee camps in Jordan and annexing land within the occupied territories. Israel needs to comply with UN resolutions agreed to over the years, immediately. The United States should not support Israels Palestinian policy any more than we should support Hamas. To keep supporting Israel is supporting the status quo. Because it's becoming obvious. That's what Israel wants.
