The (Impossible) American Dream
But there's a rub. The possibility that their children will move down the economic ladder, in class position if not income, is one of the great anxieties that assault the vast middle class, even at its highest reaches. Mobility is a great thing, but it often comes at someone else's expense. As some rise in rank, others must fall. To some extent, the American dream is inherently an impossible dream because it cannot fulfill people's expectations of both opportunity and peace of mind.

Comment: You need to grow up big time. Stop whining about Republicans or Bush taking away your freedoms. If you think induvidualism or freedom doesn't exsist in this country then leave it now and go to North Korea so your petty whining about freedoms being taking away can make sense. You must be a little selfish *** if you think we do not have enough freedoms in this country.

Comment: Pink Panther...
Not ALL of the manufacutering companies are stationed over seas. I happen to work for a very well off company stationed in Tampa, FL with the Manufacturing plant in our own backyard, with this being said, I know many other companies who also have plant's in the US.
As far as disabled...thank the govn'ment for it's gracious gifts (out of our tax dollars) for a small check to live on. Look at it from an emyployers stand point...you're already getting paid, if you happen to have disabilites that "enable" you to work, why hire? There are 2,000 other people who can do the samething as you fast better and arrive on time everyday, no excuses.
American dream, yes indeed.
