Unfortunately I missed the debate. Reading all this comments worries me quite a bit. A few of you stated that the last person we need in the presidents seat is an ordained Baptist minister. I completely, whole-heartedly disagree. Our country, which so many have fought to defend and have lost their lives, were based on Christian principles. You know, so many people have pushed God out of schools, out of government, out of our lives, but as soon as something bad happens, they ask why God allowed it! It's because He was pushed away. I worry about the lives that my children will have when they get older. Babies being killed, rape, violence, etc. Maybe, if we have someone with biblical morals, my children will grow up in a better place. And for the person that commented that the Muslim and Christian religions are not that much different- do your research before you make brash remarks. They are completely different. But I suppose, you will find out in the end. I will vote according to my beliefs based upon what the Bible says, and so far, Huckabee has my vote. Just please no more Clintons!

Maam I have to ask you a few questions. Why would you vote for someone who claims to be a Christian and yet has a speech of his posted on the flagship website for the New World Order? Huckabee to my knowledge, is the only candidate that has been graciously allowed the priviledge of having a speech of his put on the web by an organization whose stated purpose is to bring about a North American Union and the destruction of our country. Ron Paul is the only candidate who has spoken out against this organization and has consistently in 20 years of public office proven that he is a constitutionalist and has the best interests of America and its citizens foremost in his mind. He always scores high on an evaluation by the John Birch Society jbs.org called the Freedom Index which shows voting records of all Congressmen and Senators and whether the votes they placed on issues are for less government and less taxes. None of the others in the debate ever have scored high on that index and based on their platforms for those who have never been a Senator or a Congressman, they would never score high. Huckabee is a dangerous man because anyone who would in any way work with or for the CFR is a traitor to this great nation!

Amen, to your comment! I am from Arkansas and Huckabee has been the most honest Governor we've had. Our world is going to hell and nobody cares, but yet they blame everything on God or anybody who stands for HIM. I've had enough of the clintons to last a life time and I've still got atleast 50 years left. Mike Huckabee walks the talk in and out of behind close doors, I feel he is the BEST CHOICE for our country and my children's future.

Why do you think atheists would ever ask why a fictional character allowed something happen. Do you blame dragons for sneaking into you're kitchen and burning the pot roast or wait for Superman to fly in and lend a hand with the landscaping? Christian principles are principles that are based on behavior that was beneficial to the survival of people way before organized religion ever came along. Huckabee is polished and he knows what to say because he is aware of what people want to hear and what they are looking for to turn them away.

When the discussion is more about religion, abortion, gays, etc rather than the problems this country faces with health care, the demise of the middle class, global warming, rising energy prices, etc. than one has to be concerned that we are putting too much emphasis on religion and the religious points of view of the candidates. Who cares if any of them believe in everything in the entire bible. Did I really hear that last night??? What place does a question like that have when people can't buy gas, can't get health insurance, can't buy a home.....come on. The Republicans are way out of step with the rest of the country. They should definitely not have control of this country come January, 2009. We need a new direction for ALL Americans.

I have lived in Arkansas my entire life and am very proud of our State. I have traveled all across the US on business and have heard every backwoods barefoot joke and Clinton joke out there. I have not always agreed with what my ex-Governor has done, but I think he did a lot more good for the State than bad. The one thing that sticks out in my mind the most is that when Katrina hit and thousands of people needed help, Huckabee asked the people of Arkansas to come to their aide. This state took in thousands of people, we opened shelters, gave food, money and the entire State opened our hearts and our pockets. Huckabee asked for help from the government but none came. I watched on the news about all the other states that were helping out not once hearing anything about all the things that the great people of Arkansas were doing. Huckabee told all of us that we could not wait on government aide or to say we would be paid back for our state funds utilized. He said we had to help those in need and do everything we could, that is how we do things here in Arkansas. He never once tried to force his religion on me. If he used prayer to make it through his day then that is his business. He is what you see, like it or not. I may not always agree with him, but I never have any other President either. I think he would do a good job and he has my vote. >>>Sherry

If you want to know what the mainstream media desperately does not want you to know, simply Google or YouTube: "Ron Paul".

Does Huckabee drive anyone else insane? He always talks like he's telling some great moral story. I feel like I'm sitting in a church with a FAKE preacher. He drives me crazy, and he's so ignorant to the issues. He wants to do away with the IRS, but not for same reasons as Paul. If it were for the same reasons as Paul, he wouldn't be implementing any other tax to replace the income tax. He's so ignorant to it all, but he's getting the credit of being the anti-IRS candidate. It's so frustrating and scary to see the ignorance of people running for the position to lead the country. I was baffled at McCain's response in a previous debate about the FED. He actually wants to look to one of the head guys of the FED Reserve for guidance on money and finance! It was obvious he is so clueless!
As a Christian I am amazed at the christian following Mike Huckabee has. It was no mistake in the Bible refering to people as sheep. They blindly follow the heard. You would think that as Christians they would understand Ron Paul and his message of freedom and liberty more than anyone. After all , Christianity is about free will. God and Jesus never forced themselves on anyone. And Christians know more than anyone that you can't force your beliefs of Christianity on anyone. It doesn't work. People have to come to those things themselves or it's not real and won't stick. SO it really is quite puzzling that the Christians of this nation try to force their morals on everyone else through the government. Besides, Christianity isnt' a religion; it's a relationship and a personal one at that. Why involve government in that?

To american party. You are nuts. You call yourselfa christian and talk about not forcing our relgion on anyone? Have you looked around you lately? It is our religion that is being systematically removed from all aspects of our lives by those who have no backbone to stop it. You can't say Merry Christmas without getting angry looks or a lame response like "Happy Holidays", Gimme a break". I just recently saw a navigation equipment commercial and the girl told the man "This is a pre- holiday gift." This is where our countries faith is heading. School Christmas plays are being canceled all over the country by school boards just to satisfy the few non-cristians that want to squash the celebration of what this country was built on. Jesus Christ our loed and savior. Now you can call me an ayatollah and hope it makes me be quiet!!! NOT~~!!!!!

I like your comment. It seems to me that Americans are drinking too much fluoridated water and are becoming more insane by the minute. I'm donating money to Ron Paul and I'M NOT EVEN AN AMERICAN AND CANNOT VOTE!!!. Fake Christian sheeple drive me nuts. Get a brain and start thinking. I know it's hard but it can be done.

Dollar for dollar, Rudy is the best candidate. I liked the way he chose to end his last marital relationship, just presenting the facts of it in a press conference. Just like FDR once said, "Fear itself should be our primary motivation." Rudy will baste us in this fear like a turkey cooked to perfection. All of the other candidates are turkeys. And Rudy can make gravy out of anything!

I'll be voting for Huckabee if only for the fact that he supports and is not afraid to speak out on behalf of the Fair Tax. Imagine abolishing the IRS!!! And imagine receiving 100% of your paycheck WITHOUT any withholdings. And strangely enough, there is a connection between the Fair Tax and illegal immigration: i.e. all CONSUMERS will pay the national consumption tax (Fair Tax) on new goods and services, but only registered CITIZENS will receive a monthly prebate check from the government. How's that for incentive for becoming legal! Please check out www.fairtax.org to learn more.

That's great and all but you need to ask why he wants to do away with the income tax and why is he replacing it with a different tax. Read up on Ron Paul, the income tax, and the Federal reserve.

Only Ron Paul has the strongest positions against illegal immigration, but of course CNN would not allow Ron Paul to discuss immigration policy, even though all other 7 candidates were allowed to discuss the issue. Ron Paul wants to secure the borders, and also end all federal-government subsidies to illegal immigrants, such as federal-mandates that taxpayers fund the education, healthcare, and housing costs of illegal immigrants. Also, it is only Ron Paul who introduced legislation in 2005 proposing to end the ability of illegal immigrants to have their children granted automatic "birthright" citizenship simply by being born on US soil. Ron Paul has all the answers, yet CNN and the mass media want you to not know about Ron Paul. To learn about Ron Paul, just Google or YouTube: "Ron Paul"

Comment: I live in Hope, Arkansas and know that the illegals had to be undergoing the citizenship process to even qualify for the scolarships. These kids had been in America their whole lives. They did not crawl over the border by themselves as infants. They realized that what their parents did was wrong, so they were doing what it took to change their own future, like becoming a citizen and getting a good education. They were not given anything ahead of any legal citizens. By the time they were out of college and legal, they could be productive taxpaying citizens instead of Mitt Romney's landscape crew getting paid low wage cash under the table. If they had just kept on without a college education, they would prpbably end up costing taxpayers a HUGE amount more, because the federal government would have been paying their welfare, food stamps, and housing for many many years. I would rather help pay for 2 years tuition for someone who is trying to do the right thing, than to pay years and years of benefits for lazy folks (all races including whites) who are able to work but won't. Also, life is MUCH better in Arkansas now than it was before Gov. Huckabee came into office.

I agree with you Tennessee lady. I am a registered Democrat, but I was born and raised in the south and have never forgotten my heritage in the Old-Fahsioned Republican Party, true conservatism in faith, fiscal discipline and foreign policy. As a military veteran as well I would be an Eisenhower Republican. I didn't like Huckabee at first because I'm so jaded by the current administration and its policies. But, the more I listen to him, the more I like him. Of course Huckabee wasn't saying he wanted more illegals, but if a child of an illegal went through the school system and had an A+ average, drug and alcohol free and a good kid, he should at least be able to go to college. I like what Huckabee said in the debate, "We are a better country than to punish children for the mistakes of the parent". So denying a proven good student an opportunity to get a degree, which has to be done in concert with applying for citizenship, is not conservative, it's just stupid. Isn't it a conservative policy to get people to become honest hard working tax payers and not tax takers? Huckabee definitely made Romney look either ignorant or cold-hearted when they went at it on that one. I will definitely vote for Mike Huckabee if he gets the nomination in the Republican party.

I'd like to head Mormons for Huckabee. He is the only candidate who shows good common sense. He's made a Huckabeliever out of me. Mcain is a good man also and Ron Paul should team up with Dennis Kunicich and run as the OUTER LIMITS TWILIGHT ZONE candidates.

  • Posted By: marty a. @ 11/29/2007 3:00:17 PM

great piece.....it seems to me that the republican candidates are afloat on an already listing ship, jockeying for position to see who falls overboard, who's pushed overboard, and who's going to be climbing the mast when the ship starts to sink.

I find it interesting that despite his strong performances in all the debates, mainstream media only grudgingly gives Ron Paul any mention. He is a legitimate candidate. There is a growing number of american who share his disdain for big government and it's intrusion into the daily life of the average citizen. Give the man his due, he is for real!

I have been watching Huckabee for a number of months now, mostly due to dissatisfaction among all other candidates, both Democrat and Republican. As a currently serving 22 year active Army Officer, I have had ample opportunity to judge the character of a very large number of folks as subordinates, peers, and superiors alike - we move a lot. Looks like he may be well earning my vote. I don't fully agree with him on all issues, but character counts and he seems to have it in abundance - I'd be proud to have him as my Commander-in-Chief.

I disagree that Huckabee "eloquently defended his support for college scholarships for illegals ("we are a better country than that")". His answer simply masked this issue with false compassion. A "compassion " that was directed toward illegal immigrants' offspring by spending money collected from the hard-working, tax-paying American citizens who are struggling with their children's college tuitions. In addition, there is the cost to support these illegals through the pre-college public school systems. This type of "compassion" is intuitively wrong. Honestly, it is robbing the legal immigrants and the American citizens to aid the illegals. Yes, we like to be "a better country than that". But, can we afford to ?

  • Posted By: kensington007 @ 11/29/2007 2:56:43 PM

I'm 24, from Minnesota, and have watched every single one of the Republicans debates and all but one of the Democrats debates. The more I watch, the more I see Mitt Romney as slimy and he seems like a liar. Fred Thompson doesn't have that 'fire in his belly' I need in a President. Rudy Guliani is just ok...he doesn't seem presidential to me. I have so much respect for John McCain, but he screwed up BIG TIME on that illegal immigration deal. Ron Paul seems really really great, BUT he's really off on the whole war thing. Then there is Mike Huckabee who came out of freaking no where, but I'm growing to LOVE him! First of all, he seems HONEST. Second, he is a phenomenal speaker (maybe it's a Hope thing). Third, America could use some inspiration to loose some weight! Mike Huckabee IS THE AMERICAN DREAM. Check out his bio. It's rather impressive. (Huckabee finished his undergraduate degree in 2 and a half years!!!)

I have to admit that as a Demodrat, I watched the debate last night. Huckabee was very impressive. While Mitt and Rudy doubletalked and threw mud it was refreshing to see Huckabee and Paul appear to be completely honest. I was actually blown away by both.
