Comment: The end of man's rule on this planet is no myth just like the Holocaust wasn't a myth

Comment: Believe me loose nukes for which the only aim is for our destruction in the wrong hands is not GOOD news!

Comment: This is not a FALSE alarm! Please remove any doubt. Jesus Christ warned us that a time would come where if he didn't intervene that no flesh would be saved alive! We are living in that time. I urge you to heed that warning and change to His WAY of righteousness, living by every WORD of God.

Comment: What scares me the most is the handling of our own nuclear weapons. Does anyone remember the B-52s that left Minot, South Dakota for Louisiana without any knowledge that they were carrying nukes?

    Probably not.

Comment: I can't believe this.. A nuclear bomb can be detonated in the US so easily (thankfully there are no nukes for the terrorists to use), it would make people leave cities now, yet the most of you turn this into Bush bashing. This is yet more proof that your hatred overpowers your ability to think or do things logically.
Back, to the discussion, you all don't realize how volunable we really are. (And no this isn't meant to scare anybody, but prepare them). Terrorists can easily get past security and hijack aircraft. Bombs and weapons can be smuggled over the Mexican border (which it isn't hard to smuggle things, in fact its the easiest thing to do, into our third world neighbor). Bombs can be placed basically anywhere in our cities without anyone knowing (or caring).Any person with the right equipment can release deadly chemical gases into a city from a parked train tanker car. Chinese subs can sneak past our defenses and can get within attacking distance of our carriers. The Chinese can shoot down our satellites or knock out our communications and we would be defenseless.
This may seem like scare tactics but its better to be a paranoid but prepared than an ignorant bastard which too many people prefer to be after labeling this kind of stuff, scare tactics.

Comment: If there are loose nuclear bombs, I would worry because a nuclear bomb could easily be shipped into this country because we have no way of checking shipping.

Comment: But a nuclear bomb could easily be shipped into this country since we have such bad shipping inspections.

Comment: Roguish non signatories ---please ------in this age of trigger happy illogical irrational "superpowers" I'll keep my nuclear deterrent, thank you

Comment: haha! well put! The Bush administration and the current farce of international policy has proven far more deadly than terrorism. With terrorism accounting for only a handful of american deaths compared to the massive slaughter from the wars the USA has wrought on the world that it justifies as defence from terrorism.

Comment: Roguish non signatories like India? We have far fewer weapons per capita than the US. If US citizens need 1 bomb per 10,000 citizens to feel safe, the Indians need it to. Or do you believe in apartheid?

Comment: why does india need nukes you have lots of poor people you should help them rather than wasting $ for weapons nones ever going to use (or if they are used it wont matter who used them since the earth is just going to be one large radioactive ball)

Comment: While I don't relish the thought of being at ground Zero, I think this is vastly overblown. 45 years ago I lived near a SAC base, and I saw bombers dispersing for an attack on the USSR over missiles in Cuba. Sorry, but by comparison these guys can't do anything near as frightening. As for Bush getting a slow start, thanks to Gore everything in the government got off to a slow start. Be happy it's happening and quit sniping.

Comment: It is tragic that an expert like you has termed India as a 'rougish' state. India has not signed the NPT, still it does not deserve to be termed as rougish

Comment: The fear of loose nukes did not provoke the invasion or Iraq, but rather provided a marketable rationale for the attempted colonization of a formerly-sovereign nation, albeit one ruled by a thug. From all I have read, I believe the Bush administration wished to establish a forward base for future Middle East military operations, with at least the aim of protecting American oil supply in the coming decades. Pre-war Iraq, in terms of its ability to inflict damage on the U.S., was a flea. Now fragmented, and with our soldiers mired there, Iraq is proving a deadly foe comprised of people who simply want the invaders out, so they might further their own political and economic agendas. That there is even a whisper about attacking Iran should be a horror to us all.

Comment: Wow, fear mongering has become the norm and everyone is on board. It would take a 9/11 like attack every month to make the risk of death while flying due to terrorism equal to the risk of death while driving your car.
'Dirty' bombs are hugely innefficient and won't kill anybody. The bomb will go off, people will move out of the way of the risk--only people directly in the bombs radius will be hurt. 3 million people die every year from environmental pollution, but where's the war vs pollution? What's the real threat here--terrorism, driving to work, getting drunk, or eating at mcdonald's? Heart disease killed over half a million people last year. Where's the war on fast food? I'm not saying we shouldn't be thwarting terrorism, we definately should, but let's take a step back and keep things in perspective. Stop being pansies.

Comment: I don't even know where to start to criticize this article. Suffice it to say that Michael Hirsh has a "microphone" with which to preach, but I don't have to believe a word he says, and I most certainly don't.
