Early reading starts at HOME. A love of reading develops when children see their parents active in reading, wherther is be the newspaper, a magazine, or a novel. Vocabulary also developes early by being read and talked to. Parents have such an impact on vocabulary and reading fluency .... it bothers me that Frankie Denise in Florida blames the teachers. "Home" does not always do IT'S part!

Kids? What about adults? Do adults even read newspapers anymore? Monkey see, monkey do...if parents aren't reading to their kids or if their kids don't see them picking up books then how on earth can we get the interested? I thin the problem is not kids but adults...

It is important to let children read whatever interest them. My daughter loves ocean life so I encourage her to read books about ocean life. We need to stop watching so much television and we need to stop bying our children video games.

If the teaching PROFESSION demanded more of their personnel, which would equate to higher salaries, American educated children would be able to compete with the rest of the world. But in Palm Beach County Florida, the norm is apathy because of low pay and teachers who chose their career for who knows why.
