The Search for Thugs

Well I don't see white men being "stigmatised" as thugs.Do you?Most blacks I know are boring thugs.

Some black men are all not thugs some of us want to do some thing with are live I am not saiding that what does young men did was ok but may be they did have a Mom or a Dad to tell them what is right and what is wrong so I have people to tell me what is right so you are saying that all young black men are thugs. What about Denzel Washington son you are saying that he is a thug to.

I'm surprized Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not supporting the young black thug killers of Taylor, because they are black and had a rough upbringing.
That would be their style, just for more self promotion.

Well, the people who killed him are young black thugs. I don't see anyone metioning that.

Please understand that when it comes to being black in America, "acting black" means you are demonstrating the qualities of the worst part of your ethnic group, and "acting white" means you are demonstrating the qualities of the best part of your ethnic group. Case in point; when a white person is said to be acting black, it is usually because they are listening to rap music, sagging their pants, and/or talking in slang. Well, I know plenty of black Americans who do none of those things, so how can that be referred to as "acting black?" In fact, these same people would be called "wiggers", meaning white-***. Why can't they be called "whacks" as in white-blacks?
When a black person is said to be "acting white" it is because they are usually talking in standard English, dressing prep clothes, and/or acting educated. Well, there are plenty of white Americans who do not speak proper English (e.g. Southern Whites), dress in sagging clothes (see Skaters), and flunk out of school.

What I am getting at is, when someone is doing something poor, then it is called "acting black"; when someone is doing something positive, it is called "acting white." There are some issues with that premise.

ruger14...vanity357 isn't bringing up 'the past' as you stated. these heinous acts continue on our race daily...ie katrina...that was what? two years ago? it's amusing to see post such as yours that state what happened ages ago...no....it's still happening today.

For the lady who wrote this story should be ashamed of herself and newsweek magazine should be ashamed for letting out this story. I can not believe after a young man who was changing around his life gets shot for no reason and right now his family is going through alot of pain his teammates and friends also Newsweek magazine should write an apology to all members who have been hurt with this very sad death this is wrong and should not be tolerated

It is so sad to read this blog. I do not like to see hatred written out to fuel the fire. We are the human race, and people are always going to make judgements whether it be about your race, clothes, life style, work, and the list can go on. We need to become a nation to accept diversity, and embrace those who have fallen to the wayside. I am white, but I love all. I'm no better than anyone else. I work in a very diverse environment, and wouldn't want it any other way. My parents raised me in a Christian home, and God created us all. If the bickering, and fuel doesn't stop. And supporting, and guiding begin our world is doomed no matter what the race is. Alot of people get on the wrong path/hard times sometime in thier life. Be the hero to help them up don't continue to kick them while thier down. Fill your heart with love, and the hate will cease. I promise Taylor's family would like to read comments such as this rather than the bickering. He was a wonderful role model that all could learn from. May he RIP.

I 'm part of the human race. That is the only race that should matter. I do not see black ,white, light, or dark. It's not one race that is prejudice, it is all of them. Often whites are more picked on than others because of the past. There are black colleges, but whites can't have just a white college. I feel there are alot of brilliant people out there of all races, but if all races can't come together than the only race that will exist is the ignorant race. Have GOD in your life, no matter what religion it maybe, learn to love all, and really mean it.

I just don't understand. See I grew up in the ghetto but I've spent my life getting rid of my label. I'm tired of people looking down on me because of things I've done in the past and because of where I'm from. This article is a perfect example of how America idolizes the ghetto and the gangs in it, but is quick to point fingers the second something goes wrong. My personal opinion is if you want to let the hood in your homes, if you want to let your sub-urban children dress and act like a thug then America can't be suprised when they start experiencing problems that people like me had to grow up with. It just frustrates me that I've spent the past six years distancing myself from the ghetto and the heart ache that came with, just to see the entire nation become obsessed with it.

Ganderilla you get what you want when we respond to you. Fortunattely most people would agree that you're an idiot and that is certainly my take on you. With that being said, this is the first and last time I will respond to you. In no way shape or form do I support ignorance, so you can consider yourself dismissed.

Not only was it not fair of people to rush to judgment and say he died because of his lifestyle, it was also disrespectful to his family. His family and friends had to see/read this stuff daily after his death and it was so insenstive of people to say them. I can say I told ya' so to those who rushed to believe that it was the thug lifestyle that brought about his death. In a MSN article I commented the same things about people being respectful of this man and his family. It makes me angry that this is the first thing we think about young African American men, but are any of those who made those claims back pedaling and apologizing?

It literally infuriates me as the parent of two boys (17 and 9), to know that they people will believe they are knuckleheads because of their skin color. My boys are well-spoken and well-behaved and they hear constatnly that they "talk white" because every other word isn't "***" or some expletive. My oldest son has an IQ of 160 and people seem surprised to hear him speak intelligently on a variety of subjects. My 9 yr old was told he had a wide vocabulary, as if should only be capable of using words with 1-2 syllables and not know how to speak his mind. My oldest child was told he acted more white than the white kids he worked with. Because he says every syllable in a word. what really makes me ill is that these comments not only were made by blacks and whites. Until we can know to want better, do better and be better than we are, we can't expect anyone else in society to expect anything of us either.

Most of the media is owned by Jews not whties. Jews are not white.
