Ditto. Newsweek isn't even going to make my bathroom reading any more.
This is the most laughable article I've read in 11 years of a career as a Journalist. It is precisely because of articles like this that I dropped my Newsweek subscription just six months after getting it. Newsweek is an example of how unprepared wanna-be reporters end the little credibility the Main Stream Corporate Media has. To ignore; or worse, to deny the existence of the projects to complete the NAFTA Highways or the merge of the United States with Canada and Mexico is mind-blowing. With so much proof out there, Gretel Kovach either is paid by the corporations who finance the painful destruction of the United States, or she is stupid, blind, deaf and ignorant. Believe me, it's been a while since I saw a person who possessed those qualities together. It would have been a matter of reaching out to ask Lou Dobbs about it. This is why more an more people drop subscriptions to newspapers and Liegazines like Newsweek by the minute. I did it and guess what: It felt good!

I too am heartened by the sentiment as well as the facts being displayed by the readers of this bad piece of journalism. There will surely be more to follow as Dr. Paul's popularity increases and I am happy to see that there are so many other patriotic countrymen out there willing to make a stand. Thank you Dr. Paul for beginning a revolution that I have known for so long has been needed but didn't think could happen. You have waited too long to begin your smear campaign Gretel and Newsweek. Too many brushfires have been set.
For the record, I am not a Ron Paul supporter (although I don't disagree with many of his ideas) and in fact voted for President Bush both times (although if he could run again, I wouldn't). I'd rather this be a sovereignty/border security discussion than a Candidate X '08 rally. I'd hope by now that Newsweak would be in full 'war room' mode to see how they should respond. At this point, I think an editor might want to post some sort of official response on this Comment board. You would think they would recognize a PR problem (regardless of the journalism problem) when they see one.
The following is an excerpt from a speech given by Past Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta in
Dallas Texas (not so coincidentally when the Trans Texas Corridor planning was underway);

REMARKS FOR
THE HONORABLE NORMAN Y. MINETA
SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION
NORTH AMERICA???S SUPERHIGHWAY COALITION TRANSPORTATION FORUM
FORT WORTH, TX
APRIL 30, 2004
8:20 AM
"You also recognized that the success of the NAFTA relationship depends on mobility ??? on the movement of people, of products, and of capital across borders."
"The people in this room have vision. Thinking ahead, thinking long-term, you began to make aggressive plans to develop the NASCO trade corridor ??? this vital artery in our national transportation system through which so much of the NAFTA traffic flows."
"You hear a lot about the debate over funding levels. President Bush is insisting on a fiscally responsible bill that we can afford ??? one that doesn???t place new burdens on the taxpayers, doesn???t mortgage our future, and doesn???t take money away from critical priorities.
But that is only part of what is involved. The Bush Administration???s reauthorization bill ??? the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act (or SAFETEA) ??? makes fundamental changes in the way America invests in its transportation infrastructure, changes that can help you develop your corridor."
"We split the Federal Highway Administration???s Corridors and Borders Program and refocused the new programs on planning. The Corridors program is designed to encourage multi-state and multi-modal planning. The Borders program will encourage bi-national planning to enhance improvements at our land border crossings."
That's right Newsweek. Just keep slamming the ONLY true patriot running for president. All you are doing is helping us to build a stronger grass roots movement. Wait for the TEAPARTY on Dec. 16th. Give the American voter credit, will ya? We are doing our homework. and we want a return to a constitutional form of governement; which means less big governement. Get this; forget tax cuts, QUIT SPENDING what isn't yours to spend.
Others have adequately panned this hatchet job. I will only add that I will no longer consider Newsweek a serious source of information unless a full retraction and apology is front and center in the next issue, and on the website.
The following is an excerpt of a release from Oklahoma Congressman Sullivan's office;

Protecting the Sovereignty of America
???Like many Americans, I am concerned about the proposed construction of a transnational
superhighway between the United States, Mexico and Canada (known as the NAFTA superhighway), as well as the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP).
Rest assured, I will vote against the construction of a NAFTA superhighway, as it would
potentially limit control of our borders and erode our national sovereignty. Additionally, the cost of the project would add an enormous financial burden on American taxpayers. I recently supported an amendment which would prohibit the use of federal funds for SPP workings groups and signed onto legislation opposing the NAFTA superhighway and the formation of a North American union with Mexico and Canada.???
CLASSIC :)

Comment: "Ron Paul wants you to be scared."
If by 'scared' you mean 'informed' then, yes.
A more accurate statement might be:
Newsweek wants you to be ignorant
The Ron Paul smear continues.
Main stream media is working overtime these days against the real frontrunner.
The 2nd American Revolution begins
AMEN to this post!
Yes, the Ron Paul smear continues.
Main stream media really is working overtime to try and convince us that the "real" frontrunner is a kook.
The Revolution begins.
It's funny how you're saying there's really no plan by anyone for a North American Union yet you validate part of those plans. The question asked in the debate about it also asked about the CFR and in fact the CFR has published a piece called Building a North American Community which basically lays out a plan to build a NAU. It talks about an Amero currency and everything. Vincente Fox even admitted on Larry King live that the Amero and possible NAU was a long term plan for them, just look on youtube and you can see for yourself. Yeah you have embarassed yourself on this one, try a little research before you write an article because those reading it will.
I wonder what a Newsweek article, circa 1776, would look like...
"Kooky George Washington Makes Wild Claims of 'Taxation Without Representation'"
Or how about 1930's Germany:
"Crazy Einstein Makes Unpatriotic Claim of Upcoming Persecution of Jews By Our Fuehrer"

Well Gretel, I almost feel a bit sorry for you. THis is one of the moments when you realize EVERYONE from now on is going to see an article written by you and think back to the bad journalism displayed here and just skip any future articles written by you. Might we ask that you kindly ask your superiors another chance at this article and write one that is factual, and unbiased?? Admit you were wrong, check your sources and give us an article WE THE PEOPLE can look at and say, WOW....what a lady.....she appoligized and WHOA.....that new article aught to stir the pot and cause the American people to wake up and be scared about loosing our freedom........Can you do that???? I am willing to give you another try, I will chaulk your misinformation up to ignorance and meeting a quick deadline. Wanta give it a try, Gretel??? SHow us Americans we can still have a bit of faith in journalism, this is your opportunity at an article of a lifetime. We are waiting.............
Oops. My other comment didn't show up at first. Sorry for the redundancy. :)
Saying the plans for an NAU don't exist is like saying there's no war on terror. Corsi filed an FOIA request and got the minutes from the actual SPP meetings. Go look them up; they specifically call for, "evolution by stealth" in how they proceed. Did we learn nothing from what the government and MSM told us before we went into Iraq? They're clearly lying. Go research it yourself. Thank goodness at least one statesman is willing to address this!
Denying that there are plans for a NAU is like denying that there's a war on terror. Corsi got the minutes from the SPP secret meetings via FOIA requests, and they actually use the term, "evolution by stealth," in describing how to proceed. They're trying to fool. Did we learn anything from what we were told about Iraq? Go research it yourself. You should be glad we have at least one statesman willing to address this issue.
