"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" There is a superhighway; it is to promote trade between Mexico, Canada and the US but it is not at all clear to me why the exisiting interstate highways can not be used. They are not that full. Something that looks like a fish and smells fishy like a fish is a fish.
Why such a resistance to call it what it is?
Ron Paul is not the only one drawing attention to this. There are a lot of other legislators in Texas and in Oklahoma that are concerned, as is Lou Dobbs. Youtube search for Dobbs and you will get a much better feel for the issue. The highway is a symbol. There is a lot of stuff that goes along with it that impinges and whose laws take precedent in trade among the 3 countries. That is the crux of the problem. Whose laws do you want to follow? Ours or Mexico's or Canada's laws.

    Ms. Kovach,
As a journalist ( a REAL one with well over 3,000 articles published, including a couple in Newsweek, FYI), I have always checked my facts thoroughly. I am disgusted at this ill conceived, inaccurate bunch of one-sided bull. It takes, what, 5 minutes using the internet to get a lead on hundreds or thousands of sources -- legitimate ones -- providing evidence that there IS a stated plan for a "super highway" and a strong globalist ( egaads, should I dare use George Bush Sr.'s " New World Order" description, will you attack me as a kooky conspiracist theorist, too?) bias among many at the top of both the Democratic and Republican parties.
I'm ashamed that a person who writes this low caliber , inaccurate article could get a by-line in Newsweek. You should be ashamed.. and consider reading up on fact checking and true journalism.

Does Ron Paul want us to be scared or does Newsweek want us to be ignorant?

I deeply thank you all for giving my misery your company.

This nation has been sold out, but it might not be too late.

I am assured by the comments here and the passion within them that what Mr. David Rockefeller and his buddies think is inevitable will in reality be a hard fought battle, perhaps more than they have the ability to wage.

Saying this is a "conspiracy THEORY" does not make it true and the ink is cheap.

    Newsweek, you are exposed.

These mainstream media outlets only prove their complicity in creating just such urinalistic crap as this smear attempt. Their editors and owners should make note of the fact that people are no longer buying it.

When the time comes for accountability, as I believe now it will, no effort to hide will succeed.

Already the masses have seen through the attack on our sovereignty through the treachery of Ted Kennedy's 40 year plan to swamp the US with illegal aliens (WHY, in God's name, is this pr!ck still in government?)

Mr. Rockefeller, your little plan is going to fail, this time.

I am not going to be one of those "I will never read your magazine again" people. Fact is; I don't read it anyway. Regardless of what you think Ron Paul is trying to say to us about the NAU, the Trans-Texas Corridor, or NAFTA, it is interesting to me that so many Americans do not know about these plans and agreements. Why has our government put trade agreements on a "fast track" through congress? I believe it is so they are passed with little time to argue the case for having them and keep the American people from having any input. Why is the SPP something that most Americans have never heard of? I believe it is because, once again, our government does not want us to know about it (not because it is evil - but because the people that want these treaties and agreements with our neighbors want to do so with no resistance.) As far as the "NAFTA Superhighway," or whatever you would like to call it, it also is being planned without consent of property owners and local and state governments. If you research the deals going on (which include Rudy G.) concerning privatization of infrastructure, you will find that we are selling out to foreign investors. What has traditionally been state owned infrastructure will now become the property of foreign companies. I would think that most Americans would not want that. So - Dr. Paul is right - we should be afraid. We should be afraid of a government that has deemed itself not accountable to its people. We are supposed to be living in a republic. A republic is governed through representative government. Conspiracy - No Conspiracy...these are just buzz words the media uses to slant things the way they see fit, to make someone that is speaking truth seem "extreme." Dr. Paul has stressed that he does not believe this stuff to be ???evil??? but rather it???s just not being done in a way that maintains or democratic process through a truly representative government. If people are being labeled ???protectionists,??? so be it. What I believe is going on in politics today is not a battle between political parties, many of them are on the same side, but rather a battle of ideologies between keeping the founder???s intents for a republic that must answer to the people or disregarding our traditional government and letting those in power make the decisions for all of us. Given the choice ??? which would you choose?

Oklahoma State Republican Sen. Randy Brogdon, a strong opponent of the NAFTA superhighway, agreed with Ron Paul.

"Senate Joint Resolution 22 was submitted to the Oklahoma legislature in 1995 calling for the support and creation of a NAFTA superhighway, which was spelled out in exactly those words," Brodgon told WND. "What more evidence does Newsweek need?"

Newsweek - I am absolutely disgusted with this article. This is one sloppy, un-researched, irresponsible piece of journalism, and Kovach and the editor who signed off on this article should be fired immediately.

Uh-oh. The globalists got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and are at best extremely ignorant or at worst intentionally dishonest in their defense of this superhighway.

    Newsweek: Not Credible

Umm,,, and Newsweek still considers itself a source of NEWS? The highway isnt a conspiracy or even news, its common knowledge that been around at least a decade ... but Newsweek still hasnt been made aware of it? Hey Newsweek ... is the wordl still flat? Better check into that and let me know what you dig up ...

Kovach really does need to do her homework - or go into some other line of business (other than journalism). Apparently, she and Newsweek don't like to be confused by the facts.

    Ugh!

    Ms. Kovach,
This is how you research a story? If you interviewed President Bush, and he were to say that there are no American troops in Iraq, would you print that? This highway has been all over the news for a few years now. Not only that, but you state in the article that it is not true, and then go on to state that Texas is spending billions to do exactly that, which is build a gigantic road through their state from Mexico. But you state that it is called the Trans-Texas corridor, not the NAFTA superhighway, so I guess it is just a matter of semantics. What a joke this reporting turned out to be. And I thought that there might actually be something worthwhile in the article when I first read it. Good luck with the journalism thing.

Gretel, why don't you try cutting the strings that are attached to your head and being manipulated by the globalist fascists in the White House and around the world? Get a clue, then exercise your right to free speech when you have something intelligent to say.

DUDE!!!,"IT'S ON GIANT BILL BOARDS IN TEXAS,PEOPLE ARE PROTESTING IT THOUGH OUT THE COUNTRY"...YOU WOULD'ENT KNOW A CONSPIRACY IF IT SMACK YOU UP SIDE THE HEAD!!!

Greta, you've got to be kidding! Where did you graduate from? You clearly never learned how to do any research. They should revoke your degree. This has got to be one of the worst pieces of "journalism" I've ever seen. Try looking farther than what the other "mainstream" media has reported. Even Lou Dobbs on CNN (maybe you've heard of him), has been reporting on the coming North American Union for the past year. Pulll your head out of the hole in the ground, and try rporting some truth. Pull

There are maps and witness testimonials to this all over the internet. So Newsweek is trying to tell me that all those Canadian government officials and Vincente Fox of Mexico are lying? Everybody is lying about this except Newsweek and some of our top government officials? Sorry, I don't buy it. No wonder your magazine is no longer considered a reputable source for anything.
