Geez, I hope the poster "Highsteaks" reads a peer reviewed medical journal about the risks of eating high fat diets. Yes cutting carbs will cause a temporary weight loss. Eating 60+ grams of fat (I am assuming this person means saturated fat) will cause irreparable damage to the cardiovascular system. Fat is needed by the body in very low amounts; American are fat because of overprocessed foods, to much meat and cheese (saturated fats) and copious amounts of sugar.

Ever wonder why high fat diets are proven risk factors for stroke, heart attack, impotence and obesity?? Eating an excess of any high fat food will lead to weight gain. Duh...!

How about eggnog (about 160 calories per 4 oz before the booze is added -- and who only drinks 4 oz?) and cheese cubes (the good stuff has about 110 calories per ounce).

This is so weird.... That people actually have the time to post all this commentary.....Have a good time, eat sensibly, have sex with your spouse, relax and eat a few noshes...Just like chill out people! Man!

Do people really still think eating fat makes you fat? Does this writer have no understanding of basic physiology?

I eat 60+g of fat per day and I'm losing weight at a rate of 1-2lbs per day. Eating processed carbs and sugar is what's made America obese, not fat.

I can't believe people are so dim that they truly don't know this stuff is bad for them (denial, or mob mentality?). I stick to vegetables at holiday gatherings and maybe a smidge of lean meat.....everyone else winds up gorging on junk and whining about it a few weeks later when their pants don't fit anymore. You'd think they'd see the correlation beween their eating and their expanding behinds.

The author is not discussing anorexia nervosa or any other eating disorder. All she is trying to do it enlighten the people who do not realize how many calories come packed into those little treats. Some people may believe that because it is such a small portion, it cannot be that bad for them. Any article that informs us how to keep our diets and calorie intake inline, should be lauded and not blasted by people who did not fully read the article to understand the point in the first place.

    Liberal Rule #1
people in general are not able to make dicisions for themselfs
#2 The general population should be subject to more taxation and less rights, also people are not able to manage there own lives so the government should take over everything and exterminate all the conservatives... BRING IT ON GIRLY MEN.....

Hey Cameltoe (nice, classy name, btw),

I honestly think it's a sickness that some people have to bring politics into a light-hearted discussion about food and the Holidays. Now let's perform a spell-check on one of your many inane comments.

people in general are not able to make dicisions
      ***You mean decisions?

      for themselfs
      ***You mean themselves?

#2 The general population should be subject to more taxation and less rights,
      ***Period, not comma

      also
***Capital A to start a new sentence

people are not able to manage there
      ***You mean their?

own lives so the government should take over everything and exterminate all the conservatives... BRING IT ON GIRLY MEN.....
***Again, all of this has WHAT to do with food and the holidays???

Tamel! Why are you wasting time correcting spelling and grammar on a comments page?
Why create tension with your condescending remarks to the semi-literate America.

      • Posted By: tablogloid @ 12/08/2007 1:42:43 PM

Both you camels should chill. Toe? Why are you wastng your time correcting grammar and spelling on a comments thread? C'mon down to the common denominator where anything goes as long as you understand what the semi-literate masses have to say.

  • Posted By: shayela @ 12/08/2007 12:36:53 PM

Oh, and before anyone comments on it: I spelled "touche" correctly with an accent, but I guess it doesn't show up in comments.

  • Posted By: shayela @ 12/08/2007 12:32:51 PM

err she's telling us what has fat, not condemning it. If you think you have the right to gorge yourselves on this stuff, well, you do. Don't write out your eating strategy for the next holiday party on Newsweek, because I doubt anyone gives a crap. And insulting the author who took the time to inform us is just idiotic. Oh, and cameltoe07? Next time you intend to respond with a witty comeback, I suggest spelling "rebut" correctly. Touch??.

Enjoy the food and fun. I have never had bacon wrapped shrimp since shrimp itself is yummy enough and sliders is a gross enough name to keep me away but give me some fudge and some pralines and I am there! Peace and love through the new light returning to you all.

If you want to eat, eat. Just make sure not to eat the whole damn batch of whatever it is. Of course, like the article says, one or two is the ideal portion. It's an appetizer not a meal.

  • Posted By: emailskip @ 12/08/2007 4:50:05 AM

Wow, some people get a tad testy when you talk aobut fattening foods. Relax, eat what you choose and enjoy. We're all gonna die of something someday. It matters not what contributes to it.

Wow, some people get a tad testy when you talkl about their food. Relax, do what you want but don't attack the messenger.

If I want to eat beacon wrapped shrimp I will dammit, I've got one life to live and I will not deprive myself of mouthwatering goodness on occasion. Moderation is key not what you eat.

I am sorry - but eating an occasional mini quiche is NOWHERE NEAR anorexia nervosa!! Get a grip critique.....
