It is interesting to notice that if they stopped working on their weapons program they stopped in 2003. We should remember what happened in 2003 to a Iran's neighbor. Is it possible that what happened to Iraq in 2003 precipitated Iran's decision?

    • Posted By: LODESTONE @ 12/05/2007 10:11:14 PM

possible, as well as any number of other possible reasons. Let us not assume too much from little data or we might find ourselves fighting in Iraq looking for WMDs.

Hard to do that after we just read an article written by a man who assumes he knows more about the inner workings of the executive office and the intelligence agencies than the agencies themselves. He spun a web of trickery (sound familiar?) to argue that war and intelligence were basically manufactured for personal gains and based these arguments in unproven speculation.

You are correct. Bush is an idiot. It is as if he is insisting that the world is flat in the face of evidence from his closest confidants that it is round. However, your comments reveal your own ignorance. You managed to include at least ten spelling and grammatical errors in one small paragraph, and to conclude that all Americans are idiots in lock step with Bush. I have no use for bigoted, small-minded idiots who cannot form a simple sentence. Thank you for not crossing the "boarder",

There are numerous things about this article, and the general media reaction to this event, that I find outrageous.

The first is that there is a continued tone of America-bashing in these seditious articles, claiming that America has 'embarrassed itself' with this information. Hardly. One of our research institutes just adopted a conclusion that directly contradicts the current administration. That's not embarrassing, it's our nation at work.

The second is that the report does not claim Iran is 'not working towards a nuclear bomb'. It in fact states the exact opposite - as the author admits (after a long-winded insult-fest against America) the conclusions are at best mixed. This is not an 'all clear' alert sounded loudly to the world. It's simply a correction of very hawkish language.

The third is that even the report concludes that the decision to not actively pursue a nuclear bomb at this time is probably the result of this exact form of hawkishness.

    Get the facts straight, Newsweek.

We're back to the ignorant neocons view that whatever happens means they were right. They can's sleep at night without the thoughts of war in their pea brains. Some people count sheep to get to sleep, These Republicans count young dead American soldiers. What evil lurks?

Wow, you are really ignorant if you think that.

even after all the lies and crimes this administration has committed against the people of this country and of the world, the fact that there are still apologists and defenders of Bush and his Fascist Regime boggles my mind! what does Bush have to do? he CLEARLY LIED right there when he said he just found out about this report "uuhhhhh a couple of weeks ago." LIES LIES! this report has been circulating for over a YEAR and Cheney squashed it. Bush and Cheney knew about this report and at the same time spouted lies and threats just two months ago about "World War III".

Honestly can we afford another war? With no end in sight in Iraq trillions spent well after the "MISSION ACOMMPLISHED" non sense, thousands dead, and wounded whose going to end up fighting this war. Not Bush, Hillary or any body else in Washington its going to be our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends, and ,neighbors all because of politics. In the first place 9-11 should never have happened ever since ever one and his lying brother in DC use September 11 as a reason to go to war (or get elected) now its used as a means to go to another war. We should never have went to Iraq and we have learned that the hard way every time we say good bye to another loved one who has to go there and have them not come home. Does anybody really want that times 2?

WITHOUT RUSSIA IRAN WOULD HAVE NOTHING. Why can't the pubic see that the real threat are the break-away republics of Russia(most notably the 5 Muslim States in Central Asia and the Ukraine)crime families in Eastern Europe and the technological advancement of China. Iran, Pakistan, India, all countries in Africa have no means of deploying a successful nuclear attack. Let's take care of the nuclear, chemical and biological weapons that already exist not on those that do not exist. I really do not want to mention Iraq, but we are taking are eye of the real threat again

In response to Poppy. What does any of this have to do with separation of church and state? I read the article, "Iran's Secret Weapon: The Pope", and this article only shows the pope is concerned with finding a peaceful resolution. He's not, as of yet, taking sides. Don't you think it would be great if the Pope, or anyone else, could lead this turmoil to a peaceful state? I think everyone can agree on this. Many people give Pope John Paul II 70 percent credit in contributing to the fall of communism in Poland. The other 30 percent goes to other factors that I don't need to mention at this time. Yeah, thank God for separation of church and state on that one. People need to focus on the overall outcome of a situation and not on a statement that has a vague meaning and is more complicated than it seems. That's why people are still arguing over this statement to this day. Don't make something out to be negative just to create some drama. Try to focus on the positives.

Ahmedinijad is a bufoon. However, the ultimate power in Iran is held by the clerics. Iran may pose a threat but I am much more worried about the fragile government in Pakistan having nuclear weapons. I am more worried about the security of the nuclear arsenal of the former Soviet Union.

  • Posted By: pantera72 @ 12/05/2007 9:35:26 PM

THINK.... The same group that made this report , in 2005 said that Iran had a nuclear program, earlier it said that Daddam had WMD's adn was trying to obtain a nuclear program. They also admit that they only know what the Iranians want us to know or think. The only difference is now the leaders of the NIE are a bunch of liberal a@@holes who are playing politics at the American peoples risk.

I can't believe that people who support George Bush after his destruction of the United States of America's reputation, actually are so blind, that they don't see the handwriting on the wall. The man stood behind his little stool and looked into the camera to say in a straight face, Iran is processing nuke material to make a bomb. Is your wallet that fat or your mind that small to be pro Bush after he lied straight to your face again?

  • Posted By: 23sascia @ 12/05/2007 10:29:49 PM

The agencies of the US Government, are possibly 17 not 16, unless I am wrong, for the remaining portion obviously the president Bush is gone with the worse wind, his replacement it is on the way, after a very sophisticated "poll" based of the most vast electronic "espionage" ever made by a government to his own people, Huckabee he is on the way to our smart American voters!!! Keep the flag up!

You are talking about the reputation of USA. This reputation is hurt since long time ago. The US intelligence organizations besides American politicians are well aware of this fact.
I have many contacts with nations all around the world. All are talking about the extreme one sided behavior of US politicians. The US has invaded two Islamic countries. By now more than a million innocents are killed in Iraq, while President Bush is talking about human rights and democracy .US government is beside the boarder of Iran, threatening that country every day. If Iran was near the US boarders doing the same, then what would have been the reaction of Americans? President Bush is accusing Iran for having enthusiasm towards atomic bombs, while many countries including Israel have it and no body is accusing them. There are varieties of negative facts against US policies. They have closed their eyes, repeating similar nonsense issues, not paying attention to this fact that others have intelligence too. Not all the terrorists are bad in nature. They can be rectified if the situation changes. Is terrorism diminished? Is the security of USA is solidified? I for sure say NO!! .Who is the main cause of
Terrorism? Have you really asked yourself this question?
The main story is the Energy sources in Middle East. The truth is that the owners of military industries should have some contracts for their production lines. And above all we are facing with some people having no respect for others rights .The enjoy their life on the bodies of others. They are the International criminals. You regularly see many of them on the broadcasting means

I agree with joseeapires. Did the attacks on Iraq influence the halting of the nuclear weapons. I don't like the way this writer attacks Bush even though he is a bad President and makes mistakes. No one should criticize another President but he has done a lot for this country and we should be thankful.

His inability to think for himself has finally caught up with him. Apparently, when he went to school, he never learned about Blooms Taxonomy. He never understood what higher level thinking skills were. He depended on people who had no concept of mid-eastern thought or life. The western world has been engaged with the middle east since before the crusades and history has not taught us anything. He has never understood the reason why his father stopped short of Bagdad. But, of course his father had Colin Powell to whom he listened. Mr. Bush has created a hole from which the United States will not be able to dig itself out of for many many years to come.

This article is a JOKE. Our president (whether you like him or not) and his advisors will do what needs to be done to ensure the overall safety of the citizens of our nation. And to say that he won't because how poeple will look at him or he might lose his job is just stupid! Oh, yeah and to write about subjects like this like its a baseball game with winners and loosers is low, in case you forgot everyone loses. People will die either today or another day. Real mature.
