Basically, I think that 95% of the people who have posted on this discussion could at best be called uneducated. This article was not about how gross fat or thin people are, this article was looking at obesity from a sociological point of view, There are societal reasons for people gaining weight over the past twenty years. Each and every one of you look into your lives and realize that the stress you put yourselves has a lot to do with the world we live in: think about it, we live in body concious, image obsessed society, we are all work horses, most of us do not have the time of day to worry about getting to the gym every day, eating perfectly, avoiding the drives throughs, eating the recommended veggies and fruits. Economics are always a factor- guess what when you are poor ramen is a lot cheaper than a cart full of vegetables, healthy food is much more of a luxury to those of us who don't rely on anyone to help them out. As in the articles, psychologically if you have bigger friends it may be more acceptable to carry some extra weight yourself. Why else would the population be on average 24 lbs heavier? Because obesity is not just the patient's problem it is everyone's problem... if 2/3 of the population is overweight the remaining 1/3 by societal standards are now the minority and will soon join the majority. Guaranteed. The people on here acting spiteful and hostile whether it be against someone weighing 90lbs or 200 lbs are obviously hiding issues of their own, to say being being fat is morally wrong expresses deeper issues on the part of the accuser. Lets be honest, you probably hate yourself for something so don't ride your high horse because sometimes you pick a vegetable over fries when you go out to eat. If you feel like looking beyond judgements of worth based on appearance try doing a little reasearch, people a lot smarter than you have already figured this 'epidemic' out, maybe a lot of it is preventable, and maybe a lot of it is not. Oh and by the way for those of you who are convinced that overweight necessarily means health problems compare a 115lb woman who never works out to a 160lb woman who works out every day, the heavier will probably live with much more vitality than the other.
