WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUT TOO MUCH WATER ON A PLANT? IT DIES. BUT IF YOU USE WATER IN MODERATION IT GROWS BEAUTIFUL. ANY HUMAN BODY OR MIND THAT IS NOT IN EQUILIBRIUM WILL CAUSE DISEASE AT THE LONG TERM. ANY EXCESS WILL LEAD TO DEATH. WAKE UP AND ASK TO YOUR SELF WHAT IS RIGHT OR WRONG INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO CORRUPT SCIENTISTS (MEDIA) PAID BY BIG CORPORATION THAT SUPPORT THEIR HORMONES JUNK GARBAGE FOOD, FICTITUOS DIETS, BIG PHARMA AND CHEMICALS.

It's been proven countless times in thousands of articles that losing weight is not that difficult. There are success stories everyday. Unfortunately, too many people want to get there without actually working for it. You are not going to lose weight from a pill, powder, drug, seance, etc. Most of it starts with eating correctly. Unfortunately, ignorance and lack of dedication that has been pushed in the States is a massive difficulty for women to overcome. Regardless, it all begins at eating properly. If you cannot do that then you simply won't lose weight.

I'm in the Marine Corps and there are very strict weight standards. I'm in the best shape of my life and am only 22. Obeasity is a personal problem everybody needs to personally deal with, no excuses. It is a reality that genetics make it harder for some to achieve a target weight than others, but what doesn't change are the methods required to get there. I have guys in my platoon that dropped 30 pounds to be in the corps. They weren't whining the whole time either, they were focused on their goal and sacrificing to serve their country. Some will have to work harder than others, and no it's not fair. Guess what; life is not fair. Complaining about all of your disadvantages isn't going to burn any calories, so why don't you do something that does. For all those of you who are comfortable with yourself being obease, it's a damn shame. Obesity is a problem that is driving up healthcare costs and plaguing our great nation. Really obesity isn't the problem, overeating and being lazy is. The Marine Corps has a place for obease people, they kick you ass back into the civilian world where ill motivated lazy fat people belong. All of you fat people depend on our armed forces to protect your skins and how do you repay myself and others for our service, by complaining about how hard you have it trying to loose 20 pounds. You know what, try being in the Iraqi desert when it's 112 degrees marching around with a 90 pound pack and a weapon. You'd never try it, because no one 50 pounds overweight could even comprehend handling a 9 kilometer hike in those conditions. You couldn't handle a 9 kilometer cawl on a treadmill in a climate controlled gym. Reading some of these comments make me sick. Quit whining and get it together. Motivate yourself to be a better more healthy person. Quit contributing to the problem and start being part of the solution. And your welcome for comitting myself to meeting the weight and physical standards required of our armed forces to serve our great country and protect you right to obeasity.

How people are so quick to judge others. This world is in a sad sad place.. every body is different from everyone else's. What weight loss tricks may work for 1 person but may not work for another. Don't judge someone because they are not the same as you.. Has society really regressed this much?

    • Posted By: rich99 @ 12/08/2007 1:15:04 PM

I couldn't understand your logic if I had just ingested an LSD tab. What in Heaven's name are you talking about?

      • Posted By: Dixieland1014 @ 12/08/2007 1:18:09 PM

You rich have been judging people since you started posting. How DARE you. You have no right to judge me or anyone else for that matter. There's is a lot more I'd like to say to you but I won't you are not worth my time or energy.

        • Posted By: rich99 @ 12/08/2007 1:32:16 PM

It's not judging, Dixie- that's your word- at least you spelled it correctly.

I live in the USA- a country that still has free speech, and discussion forums not bound by politically correct thought or speech. THAT is what really bothers you. The use of the word "judging" against anyone's posting is sophomoric. I can "judge" someone to be guilty or evil, I don't "judge" their comments- I comment on their comments.

If you find this annoying, and would feel better solving the discussion in the street, with a mob and placards, then so be it. Your maudlin comments and challenge of DARING to me is just silly little girl, "the world isn't perfect", "going to hell" nonsense.

Rich, for the first time today you really impressed me. You got up from your computer and actually used big words from the dictionary, I'm so proud, tear.

          • Posted By: Dixieland1014 @ 12/08/2007 1:42:36 PM

Little girl? Don't see one, sorry. You don't know me and honestly I really don't want to know you. I don't know what your deal is.. take your hate somewhere else.

        • Posted By: rich99 @ 12/08/2007 1:21:45 PM

Then, take a nap, dixie, you are over your head.

Wow, Did the excessively reactive comments to the comment "the New Normal" come from people who actually read the article? If you had read it, you'd realize that the attitude that is pouring out of these comments is counter productive and goes against the study findings. Excess weight leads to health problems, I'm sure that is news to people who are overweight.....Perhaps you should consider that for some people, losing weight may be as difficult for them as being kind probably is for you. Perhaps you should lift weights and bend your knees so you don't hurt your back.....

It's a sad day when women are trying to justify doing absolutely nothing about an obvious medical problem in America.

  • Posted By: Pendo @ 12/08/2007 1:42:30 PM

You don't see any obese grads from marine boot camp. I don't care how big you are. IF you are generally healthy and can you run a mile in under 6 minutes, lift 1.5 times your own body weight and touch you hands to the floor while and whiel keeping your legs straight at the same time?
If you answer yes to these questions then I don't think anyone should have any issues with your size...if not get moving and stop lying to yourself!

Just eat 500 Kcals less than you burn and youll lose 1 pound a week. I believe this is true for everyone! just try it. 1 pound a week is a slwo weight loss plan but very effective. Just think next Christmas everyone will say hey are you losing weight cause you look great! Check the internet there are tonz of resources to help you figure out how many calories you burn and eat. 500Kcals is only a Large soda or a Large Candy bar. Cut one of those out a day and bam you lose a pound a week (assuming you are not currnetly gaining weight). I know its a pain to do an equation everytime you put somthing in your mouth but still easier than other diet plans with gimmicks. This is no gimmick just biology. If you do the research I think youll be surprised just how many Calories you can get away with eating and still lose weight, its just goes a little slower but in the end you are less likely to go on a binge. Anyway thats how i have lost 34 pounds so far, still have 26 to go to be at an "ideal" Wieght, but I am confident.

I am currently 38 pounds overwieght, which is down form 6o pounds overweight 3 months ago. I know everyone is different, but Ill tell yah, its hard to be too sympathetic and Ill tell yah why. If you eat 500 calories a day less than you burn you will lose 1 pound a week period (look it up anyone will back that it up). 500 Calories is a 40 oz soda!!!! Thats it!!! So figure out how many calories you burn a day and then simply eat 500 less, if you excersize at all then you burn more, so you can eat more or lose faster your choice. When I did the research I found it was very quit simple. There are MANY free resources out there to help you figure out how many calories you burn. 1 pound a week doesnt seem like a month but do it for a year and youll be 52 pounds lighter. Just think ,next Christmas everyone will be like, wow are you losing weight cause you look great!. I wont lie though, the hard part here is knowing what you eat. I know peeps will breathe down my neck for this one but i dont care about carbs, fat or any of that stuff i just look at the Calorie intake, do the math and 500 less a day (actually im shooting for 1000 less a day and have been losing roughly 2 pounds a week. on a good week) So yes it does suck to have to equations everytime i want to put somthing in my mouth but so far it has paid off, and honestly i dont feel like I am any hungrier, again 500 Kcals isnt that much. A large candy bar is all. So go to it, slow progress is better than no progress.

Well as a man, that exercises and keeps trim, the percentage of desirable women who are complimentary has gone way down. Also...two fat people together normally stay fat so they do not progress towards a reduction in weight. The only solution is not to artifically support size variation, but instead get off the couch, away from the table, exercise, and have some confidence to lose the weight (ladies and men)!

  • Posted By: VoiceofReason74 @ 12/08/2007 1:29:47 PM

If fat is the new normal in America then I want to get out of here and off to Europe where eating healthy and exercise is still a priority. Here in the midwest and especially Indiana it has become a disgrace on the obesity problem. Nobody exercises and many of the women are eating like out of a trough. My friend came over from England and he couldn't believe how many disgusting overweight women were walking around. It was even worse than the rumors he had heard. What about the men? There are plenty of fat men too! I do not think fat is the new normal and find that argument sickening and ignorant. Although I don't understand why so many of these posts are only referring to fat women. A fat man is no sexier or better than a fat woman. It's no more okay for a man to be fat than a woman. A fat man is actually even more of a turn off as woman have fattier, softer bodies by nature. You should have advised skinny women to head to Europe as well.

    NEW Normal never never never
overweight/obese is bad bad bad no redeeming quality in any regard.
You cost the medical industry billions and drain the life out of medical providers who care for you.
I hate seeing an obese person in our ER I can feel my back hurting before I even see them.
    LOOSE WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please
Oh and by they way controlling your DIET and EXCERSE works. Imagine that

  • Posted By: boltzkrm @ 12/08/2007 1:35:06 PM

"Fat" cannot be the new normal, because along with that extra weight comes health problems, and health problems due to obesity should not be considered a norm. The desire to lose weight should come from a desire to want a healthy, active body, not from comparisons between the apearance of oneself and others.

  • Posted By: LDT73 @ 12/08/2007 1:29:03 PM

Actually, according to one set of statistics, Americans rank #44 on a life expecttancy chart at 78 years. The reason why Americans live longer than many other nations is because of the medical advances that have been made and utiilized in the United States. We may not be very good at preventitive health care, but do much better at extending the liives of the chronically ill.

4 years ago I had a gastribypass done. I went from 300lbs to 188 and still according to the bmi I am still over obest. I guess i have to disagree with this because I have a large bone frame which BMI does not take into consideration. Not only does height count but bone size should also count. I no longer feel obsit.

    • Posted By: ojacka02 @ 12/08/2007 1:31:30 PM

BMI also does not take a SMALL frame into consideration. There are probably plenty of fatties with petite frames trapped in layer after layer of fat that aren't too far off their BMI target or maybe even within it. And they probably think they're perfect just fitting right into a chart even though they have an extra 20 pounds of fat on them. A person could still be VERY out of shape and be within or near their ideal BMI. And yes, your weight could be made up of all fat or a lot of muscle. I have friends that are a lot shorter than me and weigh more than me but are just as trim as me, just shaped totally different. All bodies are different. Not to say all bodies are different in a way that it's normal for some to be composed of an excessive amount of fat. That is NOT normal.

obese people are an empedemic in american culture that allows fatty foods to control people's lives. This is also in association with our driving attitude. We complain about 3$ a gallon gas but that does not stop us from driving 1/2 a block to pick up fast food. Your self image and appreciation is important but there needs to be awareness for Health sake that it should not be accepted. It's not the rich holding down the poor in regards to skinny and fat. Severely obese people are a burden in their own lives to lead a long (healthy) livestyle.
