Okay, I used to own a Ladies health club so I think I'm a pretty good authority on weight issues. First off, when weight affects health it has to be addressed. There's too much AND too little. BUT, (and this is a BIG BUTT) pardon the pun, a persons size DOES NOT DETERMINE THE TRUE BEAUTY OF A PERSON!!!! I am so stinking sick of people looking and judging based on weight! That is stupid!!! A man or a woman can be the most beautiful person and NOT have a perfect body. And the very first thing any person needs to concentrate on is being happy with who they are NOT how they look. If you now your a crappy person on the inside then your never going to be happy. All these stars who think they have to have a perfect body, they do that because soe Hollywood *** tells them thet have look that way. Seems like Hollywood runs everyone now. Get over it Hollywood. Talent should be what intrests you. Theres lots of talented people who don't have a perfect body. AND there's still lots of people who see beyond the body. Theres also some of us who truly enjoy a little meat on our lovers. So folks, exercise is good for the old cardio vascular system. I strongly recommend it, but if a person doesn't like you just because of your weight, screw em. Be proud of yourself as a human being first, then exercise to stay healthy. And all you skinny gals who think your so cool because your thin....you need to take a look at the person inside yourself. My wife isn't a size 2 or even a size 12, but I wouldn't trade her for all the Pam Andersons and Jennifer Annistons in the world! She's talented, hard working, generous to a fault, loving, caring, and by God that's close enough to perfect for me!
Wow! It is amazing to read all these comments and not once has anyone said that you can be full figured and health. Stop making excuse for the way you are People...Yes, if you want to be health you have to work out and eat right...But who law is it that says you have to be a -2??? Society has put so many stipulation on how you should look...Forget them and love you...If you don't who will??? And by the way who came up the question Is Being Fat Normal? What do you think??? Are you normal??? Those are questions people should ask themselves before they try to down someone because of their weight...Help Them Don't Hurt Them.
I give huge kudos to women who are confident with their body image. But I give bigger kudos to women who are healthy. That's the most important thing.
Who needs to spend thousand of dollars to lose weight CarlaM? Start going for walks (free) and lay off the Doritos! Simple math that you need to burn more calories to lose.
"They may simply see being fat as the new normal." Why don't you go out and also say: "Alcoholic or smoker the new normal." That way other people that continue to practice bad habits and lead an unhealthy lifestyle won't feel bad about the decisions they make. Hey, it's the new normal.
Everything is a s simple as it sounds. Eat less calories than you burn= lose weight. Now having the will to do it is another thing. I kicked myself in the ass and lost 40 lbs and have kept it off. The bad self image bs is just that bs. If you want to live and live healthy you will. Only you can make yourself who you are.

Fresh fruits and veggies have to come down to the same prices as chips and other junk food,and what about soda being cheaper than milk . It has to be cost effective to lose weight.
Water is cheaper than soda. Milk is also high in fat and useless calories (you get more absorbable calcium from broccoli than milk). Fruits and vegetables ARE cheaper than junk food. And Exercise is free. For the most part, being overweight is a choice and I find it insulting that people refuse to take responsibility for their own health.

I HAD ALWAYS BEEN SKINNY UNTILL I HIT COLLEGE. I GAIED OVER 150 POUNDS AND DIDNT THINK NOTHING OF IT WHEN I GOT NEW CLOTHES FOR MY BIGGGER SIZE. UNTILL ONE DAY I SAW A PICTURE OF MYSELF AND FREAKED. I HAVE STRUGGLED BUT SO FAR LOST 40 POUNDS WITH DIET AND EXERCISE. I BELIEVE YOU ARE BEAUITSUL NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SIZE ,BUT FOR YOUR HEALTH YOU NEED TO LOOSE WEIGHT IF YOU ARE INFACT OVER WEIGHT.
It's just not that simple for women! When I was young I lived on a steady diet of junk food and Mt Dew and was cheerleader skinny. Then I grew up and became a mother. Now I eat fresh vegetables and fruits and find nothing appealing about fast food. And I'm obese. My metabolism came to a grinding halt around age 28, and I can NOT seem to get it kick-started again. My over-riding emotion about weight is ANGER at having to work insanely hard to drop each pound when my eating habits are healthier than they have ever been. Let's talk genetics here! Let's talk about the reality of women finding time to take care of themselves when they work full time and raise families. It probably really is all about exercise. And if I could find a spare moment accompanied by an ounce of energy to devote to it, life would be good!
Meshead - you are a ***. It's not all the overweight people who are driving healthcare costs up. It's stupid asses like yourself who give people complexes so they have to have mental health treatments. Not to mention all those sue happy people. So, quit blaming the overweight people for driving up the health costs you douche bag.
If you're overweight it's really simple to figure out why. Do you eat late night fast food? Do you eat until you're full, or do you eat only what your body requires? Do you excercise? It's really simple to start shedding pounds; all it takes is a little self-control! Why are we starting to accept being overweight, especially when we're so much more educated about the health risks? I'm not meaning to sound harsh, but sometimes it takes some honest truth to get through to people. Losing weight really is "easy"; it's just a matter of making yourself do it. A healthy diet mixed with exercise (doens't take much more than walking a few miles a day) is the best way to lose weight. If you really stick to a plan, IT WILL WORK! The only thing about losing weight that's "hard" is controlling yourself. YOU CAN DO IT!! Your friends will want you to succeed as well; ask them for help, encouragement, and accountability. Like the old Nike slogan: "Just Do It!"
Its about being healthy!!! I have a huge problem with weight categorized into numbers, especially in relation to the BMI. My hubby is 5"10, weighs 285 lbs, works out cardio wise five times a week and some light weights and eats an extremely healthy diet (I am a dietician). Guess what? He is still categorized as obese. There are also some medical reasons why a person can't loose weight also. Some people have super high metabolisms, some have extremely sluggish reasons. The most important thing is to be healthy. Not all overweight people sit on their couches and eat and drink all day long. In fact, I know a bunch who leave a very active lifestyle. Before you start steriotyping those who are bigger than you, maybe you should take a look at your own self and see if you are living a healthy lifestyle, you are obviously not happy with yourself if you have to make fun of others.
Blaming the having or lack of money as a reason to gain/lose wieght is as old as dirt. Wieght gain or loss is based on food consumed not only the type of food but quantity and quality. As someone that has had money and not had money I have been able to put good food in my mouth in both situations, one just required more resourcefulness than the other. Some people blame wieght issues because they dont have enough money to go to a gym, there are gyms everywhere if you look - the stairs in your building, walking around the park, walking up and down the hall. If we take a 10 min walk 3 times a day 4 days a week you will lose wieght, inches and be healthier right away, you dont need a membership to make that happen. The problem with weight gain is in the choices you make and the bending of the elbow each day. Make better ones!!

I am a bit overweight but I LOVE my curves and so do most guys I know. They love the extra lovin' is how they put it. They don't like all that stick thin crap. I have to maintain my weight everyday. Yeah I have trouble sometimes but you know what it's work and I am happy for the most part where I am at. I have lost 37lbs this year and so proud of myself at that. My best friend is trying to lose weight too and I give her all the power in the world to do it and I will help her as much as I can as she does lose weight. But all I gotta say is power to all the curvy women out there! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
In the end it's about your happiness. Are you happy with how you look and feel? If not then it is your choice to change that. No one is going to help you with anything unless they get something out of it. I've learned that you can only trust people to help themselves. You may be alone but you are also in control. No matter what gimicks are developed and what research is brought out gaining weight is ALWAYS a matter of consuming more calories than you burn. Have you every been on the calorie calculating treadmill...when your legs start feeling a burn you look at the number and it says you have only burned 10 calories! That should put into perspective of how much excersize it takes to burn just 1 can of soda. (150 Cal)
