I am all for you, Jill. As a female veteran, I am proud that you are showing the world that women can be both feminine and serve their country.

I think it's great that young girls are seeing that they can be girly-girl AND be tough. I think the media gives us so many mixed messages on what women should be like. The wonderful thing about now versus the 1950s, etc., is that girls are seeing they have CHOICES! Yes, we can look beautiful and think beautiful and still have a brain and do a lot of hard work, too. I'd like to see meatier contests in these pageants, but I think the poise and discipline they have is good for them. There are also a lot of girls out there with nothing but BAD role models. At least some of these pageants help give a more positive model.

As for "sexual harassment" in the work place - I think women are too quick to scream that term. I've heard women talk, too. And they can be just as down and dirty as the men. Worse sometimes! Let's get over all this silly PC stuff and just use common sense as a rule. I think it's great the guys respected Jill enough to watch how they acted on her. But she also earned their respect by ACTING decent herself. Go Jill! Good luck and God bless. My daddy was Army for 21 years. I'm a proud Army brat. I'm proud to see someone putting a good image on being a woman with different facets to herself. :) Someone else stated it correctly - there is NOTHING wrong with a woman being feminine. We should be. We should stop worrying about what people think and just be ourselves as long as we are honest and true.

Go Jill if any one could pull this off it is her! She it such a motivated person and she has so many friends that support her I hope she shows those judges a thing or to!

Well since my other comment didn't post, I'll make this one a little shorter, with the same point. I noticed that it said in the caption under her picture that the towns were adopted by her squadron. I just recently finished my 6 year tour in the Air Force, and always thought that the Air Force was the only branch with "squadrons." Is there something I missed? Either way, best of luck to her....that's awesome!

tmjackson83; in the army, ground forces are designated as "brigades and battalions and companies", but aviation and cavalry units are designated as "regiments, squadrons and troops.....hope it helps

The Cavalry and Air Cavalry use the term squadron; it is equivalent to a battalion

I am a retired United States Marine.
When I read Jill's story my only thought was keep on rolling Jill
You are a breath of fresh air.
Most Pageant Queens pray for World Peace,
You are living it and knows first hand what it will take to make World Peace happen.
You have my support and admiration even though your not a Marine. LOL
I like most Americans would definately stand behind Jill for her bid for the title. Specifically for her compassion, drive to make a difference and her Esprit De Corps.

Semper Fi young lady, Keep your head low and make us proud.

Hopefully she will restore the integrity of the pageant, which has been used as a tool for attention hungry girls to gain their fame, and has ignored the internal beauty of women, not to mention the past beauty queen have not been that pretty, either. Jill will raise the standard of the contestants inside and outside. Go Jill!!

Comment: Then why parade them around in swimsuits to judge their bodies as if they are cows at a 4H fair?"

A beauty paegant is a contest about beauty. Why is it considered disgusting or demeaning to compete for beauty? No one is saying that is the sum total of the woman - it is only one aspect that is being judged at the moment. That is like saying it is demeaning to compete in the Olympics because the prize is based on brawn over brains. The only ones who object to beauty paegants are those that look like the cows at a 4H fair.

Totally agree with Iris Skye - and I am a straight male. Miss America is total retro cheesiness that depends on a female role type that women should have stopped inhabiting years ago. The show requires a weird hybrid role for the contestants - when they show them answering questions to show how smart they are, they seem kinda dumb actually, but at the same time they are not even that hot anymore. They are not as completely reduced to sexuality as they once were, but they are not real either. I would almost rather watch genuine bimbos with big t*ts.

Hopefully she will restore the integrity of the pageant and raise the standard of the future contestants
for the pageant, which has become trashy and a tool for attention hungry girls.

I am a retired Marine Jill and to see a military women with experience and real world passion for what she does would be a breath of fresh air. Most pagent contestants pray for world peace, you are enforcing it.
Keep it up Jill, represent us well. You have my vote.

I love to see that women are taking a stand for therir own equal rights in this world. Men just don't understand how we have to turn our lives on and off in just as econd. But she puts the proof in the pudding she can be military one minute and so women like the next. WAY TO GO SOLIDER,,,best of luck this wil be the first time that I watch the competition,,,as for the military they do not get enough reconginition...so we need to all stand behind her she stood up for this counrty now lets stand up for her.....BEST WISHES

So she now thinks, after meeting them, that these women are not shallow and obsessed with their looks? Give me a break!!!!
