ok, i agree with some of this....i DO NOT support peta b/c of the stuff they do regarding the burning of buildings and putting so many animals down..BUT when u r dising peta this does not give u room to dis the countless animals abused in the name of sicence, products, food, and human apperal, i think the vegan diet in prisons is great, and some ppl are just screwed up.....animals should be treated like ppl.....IF i went to a country were ppl would look and speak different then i, i would not treat them im a different way, so y would i do different to an animal......the world is overrun by ppl and causing more animals harm the ppl relize, but maybe im bringing up other issues, anyways im just posting my views and letting ppl know how i feel as an animal lover and not a crazy woman from peta :) id choose animals over ppl any day

carnivore - there's PLENTY of material with which to criticize PETA without resorting to flat-out lying. Jerry Vlasak is in no way connected to PCRM, which is a 100% reputable, above-ground group with only very thin ties to PETA. Numerous IRS investigations have cleared both PETA and PCRM of any wrongdoing when it comes to supporting illegal activities.

The rest of the quotes are mostly accurate, although taken out of context. And since the subject here is vegetarian inmates, I'm not sure what PETA's positions really have to do with anything anyway. Your position would be a lot more respectable if you didn't just copy-and-paste dishonest material from the CCF-affiliated sites, which are paid for by tobacco, alcohol, and restaurant industry groups.

A vegan diet is the healthiest, most environmentally responsible, and most compassionate diet there is. I'm glad to hear that some government institutions are realizing this and offering vegan food. Hopefully the public school system will catch on soon so that our nation's children can be fed the same nutritious food available in prisons.

"Probably everything we do is a publicity stunt ... we are not here to gather members, to please, to placate, to make friends. We're here to hold the radical line." Ingrid Newkirk, PeTA
???I openly hope that it [hoof-and-mouth disease] comes here. It will bring economic harm only for those who profit from giving people heart attacks and giving animals a concentration camp-like existence. It would be good for animals, good for human health and good for the environment. - Ingrid Newkirk, PeTA
???I find it small wonder that the laboratories aren't all burning to the ground. If I had more guts, I'd light a match." ??? Ingrid Newkirk, PeTA
"Hit them in their personal lives, visit their homes . Actively target U.S. military establishments within the United States... strike hard and fast and retreat in anonymity. Select another location, strike again hard and fast and quickly retreat in anonymity ... Do not get caught. DO NOT GET CAUGHT. Do not get sent to jail. Stay alert, keep active, and keep fighting." Craig Rosenbraugh, recipient of PeTA funds

PLEASE stop giving these vegan fascists/domestic terrorist supporters print time!

  • Posted By: carnivore @ 12/11/2007 8:13:27 PM

Please STOP giving print space to the self proclaimed "press slut" and company at PeTA. They are a front for the domestic terrorist organization Animal Liberation Front, and they kill more animals daily than Michael Vick.
"I'd go to work early, before anyone got there, and I would just kill the animals myself...I must have killed a thousand of them, sometimes dozens every day." -Ingrid Newkirk, president, PeTA

???I often receive phone calls from frantic people who have surrendered their pets to PETA with the understanding that PETA will "find them a good home." Many of them are led to believe that the animals will be taken to a nearby shelter. Little do they know that the pets are killed in the PETA van before they even pull away from the pet owner's home ??? PETA refuses to surrender animals they obtain to area shelters for rehoming. If only the celebrity "deep-pocket" donors on the west coast knew that their donations were going to kill adoptable cats and dogs here in Norfolk.??? ??? Dana Cheek, recent director, Norfolk SPCA

"Serving a burger to your family today, knowing what we know, constitutes child
abuse. You might as well give them weed killer." Toni Vernelli, European
    Campaign Director, PeTA

    ???I don't think you'd have to kill -- assassinate -- too many ... I think for 5 lives,
10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million, 10 million non-human
lives." - Jerry Vlasak, spokesman for Animal Defense League and PCRM (a division of PeTA)

Why the concern for healthier convicts, when the school nutritional program, along with the elderly programs are in dire need of an overhaul? PETA - is the only ones who can skew the truth and shift the focus AWAY FROM WHAT IS IMPORTANT! It's just another 'fundraiser" I am sure -- money to euthanize more shelter pets perhaps?

heavensway, a vegan and vegetarian diet is CHEAPER than a meat based diet.

Educate yourself, instead of playing the fake "poor homeless" routine.

Our SCHOOLS are still using taxpayer dollars to push unhealthy meat and dairy products at kids, thanks to pressure from big money meat and dairy lobbies.

Kids get fat and get high cholesterol while those industries get rich.

    Makes no sense.

For vegetarians and vegans, the thought of eating a meat-centered diet is a fate worse than being deprived of their freedom. Prisons, nursing homes, and other institutions should offer anyone who wants it a variety of vegetable protein dishes, not just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Vegetarian/vegan choices will also save taxpayers money, not to mention animal lives.

Someone please send this article to every office in charge of prisons, so that this practice spreads and vegetarianism becomes a practice available in all prisons, as it is a responsible, environmentally friendly, intolerant of suffering and lastly healthy life-style.

This article is good news, I hope more prisons follow their example. I agree with annaserena that good vegetarian food is affordable to everyone (for ex. fruits like bananas; fruits are the perfect fast food). Everyone deserves to be healthy, and eating more fruits and vegetables and eliminating bad foods will achieve just that. Here are some sites where you can find healthy recipes:

It's great that Idaho is doing a good job of providing vegan food. Let's hope the other states get the message that vegan food isn't too hard or expensive to provide.

Fine's comment is totally incorrect. There is plenty of affordable, nutritious food available to the public if they take the time to learn how to cook it themselves.
