For me anyway, words can hardly express how bad this film is. It is completely worthless. This felt like something a child would do if he had fifty million dollars. And for some reason I actually paid to see it.

Had no idea going in of course - Tim Burton, Johnny Depp - can't miss, right? This movie has no redeeming value whatsoever. And the fact that there are so many people that seem to think it's something is perhaps the most confusing part of all.

The most extraordinary part about this is that movies like Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands are without question some of the best films we've ever been lucky enough to be blessed with. Masterpieces. True art. How can the same guy make both the best movie you've ever seen and the worst? I don't understand.

Anyway, don't bother on this one. If you're like me you've found that people will take enough of their problems out on you in your day to day life, let alone in a movie theater where theoretically one would expect to find some respite from that. I don't know what else to say except that I was left with the enormous feeling of "don't take it out on me".

    Hembree,
Don't be an ill informed hater. My wife and I are both Christian. Most Christians have a sense of humor. We love Tim Burton's work. We loved this movie. You need to get a little love in your life. A little grammer wouldn't hurt either (see what I mean about a sense of humor).

Oh what a wicked and marvelous piece of art this is. Mr. Burton, Mr. Depp and Ms. Bonham-Carter are all at the top of their artistic form. I had nearly given up on the Musical Form in Cinema, and had long abandoned live theater. But this haunting, lyrical dark romance will echo in the very depths of our human souls for a long time to come. Lest we forget the man who truly served us this pie; Stephen Sondheim. Not since West Side Story have I felt Mr. Sondheim had actually created something new in music. With Sweeney Todd, Mr Sondheim, I must congratulate you. Your music is buzzing in my head days after watching this movie...and that is a joy I never thought I would feel again. Bravo to all involved. A Piece of Magic!

I totally agree........this is the best movie I have seen since Zeffarelli'ls Romeo and Juliet...........haunting, disturbing and wonderful. You cannot ake your eyes off of it........I don't know who is better, Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter.

This movie/musical is awesome!!!!! I saw it yesterday and it was totally captivating. Johnny's singing was wonderful as well as the others. It was very gothic, haunting and done with such an edgy twist of a musical... I would recommend this to anyone who knows of Tim Burton's work and probably not for those Christian people that will watch the movie just to give their opinions even though the reviews state "demon barber", but whatever then don't watch it if you are one of those people this is for the people that love this kind of stuff and it is our choice!

"Who knew Burton would have such an uncanny feel for how to film a musical?"

    Isn't this his third musical?

I've been following this film since the first announcement that it would be made by Burton and Depp. The reviews have been fantastic. And your review was excellent. It really captured the scope of the film. Thanks! Johnny singing? I can't wait!
