Thanks Newsweek for the article. And thanks to Rep. Ron Paul for all he does for the United States.

donna, sorry you're disabled but that doesn't entitle you to confiscate other people's money. Sick people, poor people, disabled people, blind people, uneducated people, and ALL disadvantaged people can still make a living and get by on charity, work, and some government aid - but that doesn't give you the right to confiscate half of the nation's income at gunpoint.
i am disabled and anyboby that says will should abolish social security and doesn't believe in taxes needs his head examined....
Re: tax resistors, he says, "In many ways it's heroic that people are willing to risk their freedom to defend what they think is freedom. It's just, I do not promote it and do not participate in it." I suppose I have a fundamental disagreement with his use of the word "promote". Calling it "heroic" is promoting it.
We can't have a President that is a propenent of civil disobedience, particularly as it relates to taxes. It's hared enough getting people to pay taxes as it stands. And, I can only imagine how complicated collecting taxes becomes when the President himself thinks there is some value to the argument that if you don't agree with how tax money is being spent, perhaps you should take the gamble and resist.
Poorly thought out position by Ron Paul IMO. He won't get my vote.
Would you also vote against the politicians that supported the civil disobedience during the Civil Rights Movement - something that was very un-popular is areas of the country, but was the right thing to do.
hoopes: You should know that not only is there no clear authority for having an income tax (actually quite the contrary, and the IRS codes states it is voluntary, but will send armed agents to your door if you do not "volunteer "your money), but, more importantly, income taxes do none of the things most Americans believe. They are not used for building highways (that is paid for by gasoline tax), they are not used to fund schools (that is paid by property tax), or to subsizie HMO's and Insurance monopolies (that is done by tabacco taxes etc.). All income tax (every last cent) is turned over to the international banks as payment for the debt on our own money. So all your income tax money is turned over to the owners of the Federal Reserve in exchange for letting us use their paper currency as a medium of exchange. Worst and most deceitful transaction of all time. Get rid of it. Vote Ron Paul. Do you really support a system where those who do nothing fleece everyone who actually works for a living?
one of the clearest, most articulate explanations about the income tax i have ever read. thank you. i will be voting for ron paul.
What about all of the politicians that supported the civil (ie non-viloent) disobedience during the civil rights movement? Would you say that they were also wrong to support a movement that at the time was very un-popular in some areas?

Actually, Paul's statement is completely consistent with his position of abolishing the IRS, as an outlaw agency. I would expect to see a President Paul turning not only a blind eye to Americans resisting the theft of their property by federal "authorities," but would also expect to see mass pardons for peaceful resisters, and for those wrongly imprisoned under current "laws" [William Blackstone himself said that "bad law is not law at all"]. The first step toward abolishing a rouge institution is to delegitimize it; toward that end, a Ron Paul presidency is the perfect 1st step.
The more I look at this guy, the closer I am to voting for him. Thought he was waaaayyy out there (and his followers even further out...) at first but then I started reading some of his positions and that he has held these positions for years. Don't know yet, but Congressman Paul is starting to sway me.

What you apparently fail to recognize is that Ron Paul sees the current system as illegitimate, as antithetical to The Constitution, which he reveres -- the same constitution that was designed to restrain the government, not The People. According to your position, no one who opposes an outlaw agency is qualified for political office. On the contrary, I propose that ONLY those in opposition to this currently rogue government are qualified to take its reins.
"President Ron Paul." It has a ring to it. Let freedom ring!

Green Party FTL!!!!!! Smoke another joint and do some more acid!!! lol!
The 2008 election isn't about Democrat versus Republican.
It is really a contest between sheep and wild geese.
Both sheep and wild geese like to dine on green grass.
Sheep need a shepherd to guide them to green pastures. The shepherd controls his sheep so that he can either fleece them or make mutton stew.
Wild geese can find the next green pasture on their own. The wild geese poop on the shepherd's head as they take flight to fly in a V for victory formation with the Ron Paul blimp.
Those who support Ron Paul will appreciate this metaphor. Those who don't are sheeple who like to be chased around by the shepherd's border collies.
The cackling of the wild geese is rising in a deafening crescendo as they prepare to darken the skies and blot out the sun on the coming election days.
And they will manage this phenomenal feat without air traffic controllers! The FAA could learn a thing or two from these wild geese.
First, I think it is Baron von Munchausen; it seems this person likes to leave out details. Although I agree with some of what Ron Paul says, the person who posted the previous statement obviously wants to return to a simpler time when rich land barons just ran off settlers or had them shot because they didn't want them around. Kill all the Indians too; Manifest Destiny. Too many people seem to think that the Founding Fathers should have the last say, and although I think that most of them were visionaires and brilliant, there are many aspects of today's society that they didn't and couldn't forsee. It is easy to talk of "free market" forces; but do they really exist? If a large company with resources wants to take over your business, or run you out of business, what's to stop them? Also who or what will protect us from those who choose to rape the environment or flood the market with dangerous and deceitful goods?
Monkeyman, I agree with you that the "Founding Fathers" could not have foreseen what America has become today. But that is why there is the elastic clause in the constitution for making necessary changes as America changes. But currently our government has chose to ignore some contents of the Constitution rather than address what changes need to be made. If we start ignoring the constitution in parts, then what good is it. For example, based on the constitution, the Federal Reserves (should be called Private Reserves) and the IRS is illegal. Federal Reserve is owned by private bankers forge in 1913 along with the IRS to collect taxes from citizen to pay the interest on the money it prints out of thin air to lend to the American Government. That alone is death to the Constitution; since the American citizens have ultimately become financial slaves to the Federal Reserve. Please understand that the Federal Reserve is by no way part of the Federal Government.
monkeyman is in error there is no "von".
Also wild geese don't fly backwards and have a very good memory of where they have been. They won't repeat the tragedies of the past.
All good questions but I'll allow Helen Keller to reply, ""Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure."
Wild geese fly through all kinds of rough weather to get where they want to go.

Thanks for the article. Why don't your articles concerning Huckabee or Obama ask them if they will run as a 3rd party candidate? Ron Paul has many libertarian views, but he is a Republican candidate for president - your first paragraph may be misleading to some.
we can no longer AFFORD to fight wars abroad......Ron Paul has my vote as well...
Integrity, straight talk, an Economist, and the Champion of the Constitution. He's got my vote.
Straight shooter, does what he sayss, now that's leadership. He's got my vote

I may not agree with everything Ron Paul says, but I think he would be the best candidate for president. I trust him,and he won't pander to special intererests.
