The subtitle for this column is misleading. It is not Edwards and Clinton who are and will be slugging it out for the next few weeks, it is Obama and Clinton. Edwards is actually presenting a positive message of change -- expressing the need so many Americans feel to take our country back and restore our democracy to a place where "we the people" rule and government is no longer "of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations."

You may be right, Sandy. Edwards has been steadily campaigning in iowa for years and his talking points may be getting a bit too stale. That could be the reason he is not moving up much. Clinton stumbled badly this past month with her ongoing drama over one bad debate and then, the attacks on Obama.
Obama may be seen, if he wins, as brilliant in strategy by his timing on when to move against Clinton.

I have to say it may hurt Edwards that he has continued his quest for the White House even as his wife fights a losing battle with cancer. The fact that they have two young children at home compounds the problem. It makes him come across as some overly ambitious, callous politician, even with his wife trying to reassure people that everything's just fine and she's delighted to be campaigning again.

I know this seems trivial, but it's impressions that win elections.

Correction: Obama was the first to attack Clinton's ambition by suggesting that she has been planning to run for President for a long time. It seems only fair that the Clinton campaign will respond the way they did. Why is it more appropriate for Obama to make the attack and not Clinton? Secondly, the reporting consistently fails to mention that the kindergarden story was broken by a newspaper not Clinton. Methinks the media is being quite unfair in their coverage. They are not using the same standard. This is sad for journalism :-(

Regarding the Edwards campaign, and why it's spiraling downward like a ride at Six Flags: it's the STAFFERS, stupid. They are young, inexperienced, and indecisive. They are trying to corral the young vote, but Barack is seeing to it it doesn't happen. Barack understands that those 17 right now can caucus as long as they turn 18 by November. His audiences are full of youngsters 17-21. His own youth is so appealing.

The Edwards staffers and foot soldiers are actually abandoning their posts and crossing over to Barack. Why? Because they're young. Not very many graybeards in the Edwards staff, therefore, very little wisdom.

The Edwards staff has tried unsuccessfully to line up coffee cluthes and houseparties- they're falling flat. The older women adore Hillary up there- where are the men in her campaign? Back on the farm. They'll watch and see what happens. So firsthand, here's how it Here's how it will shake out up here:

Obama- Oprah, youth, young AND middle age women.

    2. Hillary- there's a lot of widows up here.

    3. Edwards- they're sick of him after 3 years.
