I try hard not to be racial and to not let race be a factor in determining whom I think is best qualified for anything. I am concerned about issues that have seemingly but put aside for a while. Whar about Obama's religious background? Since other candidates have spoken so openly about their personal thoughts on this matter, what about Obama? I'd like to know what road he'd be leading us down with that. And what about his family background. I remember hearing about some controversy with his family history that seems to have been pushed aside. As far as Oprah, she turned me off when she made references to MLK's dream and Obama being "the first time" she felt she could support a candidate (forgive me if it's not the exact quote). Is it her first time voting - ever? I thought Oprah was beyond all that. Unfortunately, we'll never get beyond our past with folks like her. Please, somebody address the religious topic.

I'm tired of seeing celebrities endorse candidates. Does Oprah have political science degree? Has she ever worked on Capitol Hill? I don't vote for candidates who use celebrities. I don't support Obama anymore.

You must be young and inexperienced. Your changing your political view because of the endorsement.
      Get a clue.

Would Oprah have endorsed Senator Obama if he were a white man? She has never endorsed any candidate before, nor has she ever been political publicly, therefore is just a coincidence that her first endorsement if for a a black candidate?
If the answer is "no" to either of these questions, her endorsement just boils down to race.

    • Posted By: Balance. @ 12/10/2007 12:36:54 PM

It all boils down to the "fear" of power and influence this black woman has. This is the reason everyone is up in arms about Oprah supporting Obama. If she wasn't supporting him everybody would have something else to say. Just place your vote where you decide and I'm sure she'll do the same. From your tone you'd support a white candidate before a black candidate no matter what they stood for. Let me ask would you vote for George Bush or Obama??? my guess ....you'd prolly say something like Bush is making a lot of progress over in Iraq...

People who will vote for Obama because he is black, or people who will vote for Ms. Clinton because she is a woman, is just as stupid as those who will NOT vote for them for the same reason. People should vote for the best qualified, race, sex, and other things should not matter, but they will, as long as will allow uneducated people to vote just because they turn 18. Voters should have to pass a test to qualify to vote based on knowledge of both international and local problems. Until then it will and always will be just an uneducated, corrupt system, that should be thrown out.

I find it so sad that the people of the United States will elect someone to the Presidence just because Oprah Winfrey thought he was great! When did the country elect Oprah Winfrey, queen of the US? Granted she is a great woman who has helped a lot of people but I do not drop to my knees when she speaks and do not consider the be all and end all authority on policis and the candidates. She once stated she would back Hillary Clinton and now she has dropped that for a black man. Racism abounds.

    • Posted By: mjkelly @ 12/10/2007 12:36:16 PM

Get your facts straight. She never backed HRC she only said the she look's forward to seeing her run. Obama is not only black. He was raised by his white mother. Read his bio and you will understand why Oprah is supporting him. Why isn't anyone saying that Bill Clinton is supporting HRC because she's his wife? That is the only reason why he's supporting her... He could care less about what she has to offer the American people. He wants to get back in the White House. Be smart read the facts. BARAK OBAMA apposed the war in Iraq from the beginning, he is pushing universal health care, HRC was paid 850,000 not to push it and do be fool, she will not represent Americans. We pay her 150k and Coporations pay her millions. BARAK OBAMAS' support come form many small contributions. Please educate yourself before comments a bunch of BS.

Obama doesn't have enough experience to be running for President. If anybody should run for president, it should be Hilary Clinton because she's already spent 8 years in the White House. She's got a lot of experience there, and Bill is behind her and that could never be a bad thing.

Oprah, we all know what you're trying to do, and for everybody's sake, I hope it doesn't work. You need to stick to what you know and that is your talk show and your magazine. You should NOT be in the political arena because you have average intelligence like most of the rest of us, meaning there is nothing special about your endorsement of your black friend Obama. That makes me wonder...who's the racist now?

  • Posted By: nbo69 @ 12/10/2007 12:35:24 PM

I need to ask if he was white would Oprah back him???? Does she REAL:LY believe in his visions. What about Hilary she is woman!! get over yourself oprah

I haven't seen 1/10th of the skepticism from Chuck Norris's endorsement of Huckabee as I see from the Oprah Obama endorsement. That just proves my point. Chuck Norris is an international figure who has also reached an iconic status. Please explain to me why there hasn't been ANYONE claiming that Chuck is supporting Huckabee because he is a white man or he is a former christian televangelist, or he is from arkansas. Why can you just accept the fact that Chuck Norris just believes in what Huckabee stands for and yet you have a problem with Oprah? You are uncomfortable with a black woman supporting a black man because of your own issues with race and your own fickle baseless assumptions about what Oprah stands for. Besides race, Obama and Oprah have ONE THING in common. The vast majority of their followers are white. They both relate to the majority of Americans because although they value their cultural roots they relate to every American. You see two black people and automatically think it is just about race when their message is about a new America. Shame on you.

    • Posted By: Graver @ 12/10/2007 11:36:56 AM

I think because no one really takes huckabee or chuck norris that serious.

      • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 12:34:36 PM

Graver pleas lay off the crack. Huckabee will be our next president if you the DEMS nominate her.
At least Obama might give him a run for his money.

Chuck Norris is the reason why Waldo is hiding.

Waldo takes Chuck very seriously, as should you!

Oprah makes me VOMIT. I am sick of seeing her face on t.v. I am not and was not going to vote for Obama anyway, but if I were, hitching that mule to his cart would have made me change my mind in a skinny minute.

  • Posted By: tharsh @ 12/10/2007 11:45:23 AM

I would have voted for Obama until Oprah went on tour. What would a billionaire possibly have in common with my needs or anyone elses. She is out of touch. Looks like I am now back with Hilary.

    • Posted By: missbright@msn.com @ 12/10/2007 12:34:00 PM

to Tharsh, I guess it was ok with you when Hilary was on Oprah show and she told Oprah that she would be a delight to have her on her ticket as a candidate for Vice-president. Oprah rejected the idea. Quit hating on this woman because she is a billinaire and black. There's been othe black candidates for presidency and she did not support them. Is is possible that she believes in what Obama stands for? I do

Is Opra a RACIST? Never before has she backed ANY Presidential candidate until now and lets face it folks, is Obamas political views so much different than any past or present Presidential candidate that it deserves Opras mighty celeb backing and influence over millions of housewives in America? Looks to me like the REAL reason she backs Obama is not becasue he is so much different than any other politician that has ever ran for President but the fact he is the first BLACK presidential hopeful to ever run -and that is the REAL reason Opra is throwing her support behing this man. Forget whether or not he is qualified to run the United States of America, if his skin is the same color as Opras- he MUST be qualified to be President of the United States right???? Since I dont watch the Opra show, I guess its easier to see what the real deal is.

If a person, as racially biased against white people as Oprah, is endorsing Obama then this is a strong data point for me NOT to support Obama. He is ill advised to have her endorse him.

  • Posted By: nyeddie26 @ 12/10/2007 12:28:52 PM

I think Oprah is racist no wonder people put nuzz all over how do you call what Oprah it's doing????? RACISM but anyways I know Hillary will win black leaders are racist like sharpton but how about black towards whites??? what's BET???? What would happen if someone comes out with WET White Entreteiment Television???? Oprah will be all over that's racist and so on how about when sharpton said "You have to sound white when you call 9-1-1 so you can get help ASAP" that's racist how about if I say well sound getto over the phone so send the SWAT team I'm Latin but whites have to stick together other wise you guys will have to rights ......

Personally I wish Oprah would not have gotten behind Obama. He does not speak in specifics. He tells me nothing about what he is going to do about the health care system in this country. People need reliable and affordable health care. And I don't like him speaking for me..."The American people want..." He doesn't know what I want? I want experience in the white house not a fresh face. Tell me what you plan on doing...and stop skirting around the issues. Edwards is the same way. At least HIllary can tell you exactly what she is going to do. She wants to help people get affordable health care....yet no body trusts her. But, she has a plan, she has contacts, he has an intelligent ally in her husband who when in office balanced the buget and is not a war monger.....Iraq is only a war for profit for oil people and big corporations like Halliburton. I want to see better schools, good jobs, affordable health care. I am sick of not being able to trust my government or any corporation filled with people trying to rip me off. I want a president for the people....the people of the USA. American people are mostly educated people...we are not stupid.. We know a war for profit when we see one. We know a president who is out for the profits of his cronies and lobbying friends...we know Bush allowed out-sourcing and off shoring so corporations would get yet another tax break. When is the average American republican who is losing his job to out-sourcing, off-shoring and illegals going to see the light....and Christians are the worse of the lot... They are going to vote according to religous belefs, against gays, against pro-choice.....yet allowing their countries economy to fail. People are living on the edge now...four more years of Republicans and the middle class will be no more... We'll all be in poverty or homeless without even a car to live. Now people can't even afford their car payment. But, Republicans want the average Joe to be patriotic and have their heads buried into religious sand...they only want you to see and hear what will serve them best....war and oil. They use homosexuals and women's rights as scrapgoats to side track you from the "serious" issues that are affecting your every day life....but people just can't see this.

    • Posted By: Coollady @ 12/10/2007 12:27:07 PM

mzzim...Couldn't have said it any better. I wholeheartedly agree with you! I've had it up to the CEILING with Republicans! If they all fell off the planet, that would be the happiest day of my life! Republican = Closemindedness. Democrat = Openmindedness and a willingness to think outside that shallow box created by Republicans. I just don't see what people don't understand about this.

  • Posted By: mando056 @ 12/10/2007 12:26:05 PM

I'm Hispanic and I have a problem any Celebrity endorsing a candidate for President, I don't care the color of the skin or the gender. I want someone qualified to lead the nation, (hopefully a Democrat). I don't think Obama is ready to be President, maybe in another 4 years. It's scary that a person like Oprah can influence so mnay people on how to vote, regardless wheather her Candidate is qualified or not. Let's face there so many people out that won't blow their nose unless Oprah saids it's OK. that's scary too.

Oprah and Barack set African Americans back so far with their ridiculous rehearsed and stereotyped show in both Iowa and South Carolina. Let me ask you this----or should I say axe? Why did both Oprah and Barack start talking like southern preachers in their speeches? Why all of a sudden, did two of the wealthiest Black Americans--who sound very polished each and every day, change their speech? i read another comment from a reader that said Oprah sounded like a character from the Color Purple. I agreed totally and was sooooo offended by it that both Oprah and Barack lost me as a supporter. I am a democrat and was wavering between Barack and Hillary. For Barack and Oprah to make this a "black" v "white" issue shows only one thing to me period----he doesn't believe in his own talent and experience that he has to be cheap and scream "look at me I'm black". No thank you--you're as black as your cousin Dick Cheney!!!

    • Posted By: snarful @ 12/10/2007 12:25:44 PM

Another hateful voter, you say no thanks to rehearsed sterotypes but hasn't Clinton done the same thing? I would not be suprized if that hostage thing was not planned to take the spot light off Obama. She didn't pull the same stunt with her southern drawl, being from the midwest? Vote her politics as usual and see what happens.

  • Posted By: veteran549 @ 12/10/2007 12:25:38 PM

Not in Decades have we had a president that came up from the masses. There are more great leaders in those masses than there will ever be in the top 10% richest. You shouldn't have to be a member of the "Elite" with a staff of "Spin Doctors" to be Americas President. The President should work for ALL classes of Americans.

  • Posted By: angelica915 @ 12/10/2007 10:57:28 AM

Th only reason all those people showed up in Iowa and SC is because of Oprah, not Obama. And the only reason she has endorsed him is because he is black.

If anyone thinks that he will change anything for the "poor blacks" in the US as he says he will, well... I have some swampland I want to sell them. This only shows his inexperience in national politics. Being a State Legislator only qualifies you to vote on budgets and getting the streets clean in your constituency, not to run the country..

    • Posted By: Balance. @ 12/10/2007 12:25:09 PM

      balance.
The whole black white point is weak. Why? Because the only reason most of the candidates are candidates ARE because they're white. But at this point who cares? Our country is in a bad place right now let the best candidate win only you bigots who speak of black and white support care about race. I don't hear anyone complaining about Bill supporting Hillary. Maybe Oprah happens to support Obama as being the best candidate based off of her opinion and personal right. She has one you know!?

    • Posted By: fafolod @ 12/10/2007 11:08:30 AM

Flawed logic: Oprah supports Obama because he is black. The commentator disagrees. Similarly if a white person supports whites than they do it because of color. Hence, whites can't support whites. Would you have been happier if Oprah was white?

  • Posted By: johnpp2 @ 12/10/2007 12:25:07 PM

There is one simple reason not to vote for Obama: he's involved with the Council on Foreign Relationsand has a globalist agenda. He may not think that war and fear of terrorism is the right tactic to abolish US sovereignty, but be assured he has the same goal as those who do. As President, he would, no doubt, try to scare us into global taxation by fear of impending environmental disaster rather than terrorism.
