Tony C I have the facts. Let me ask you this, what matters more, the "black vote" or the "female vote"? 51% of America is female, 13% is black. 60% of Oprah's audience is white female. Do you really think that Oprah is on the campaign trail for the white vote? Learn how to add.

    • Posted By: Tony C. @ 12/10/2007 10:46:14 AM

OPRAH is black. Screw the numbers, she's out to prove a point. She wants a black in the Oval office for the simple fact, TO HAVE A BLACK IN THE OVAL OFFICE, qualified or not!

      • Posted By: fafolod @ 12/10/2007 11:30:44 AM

Rational people address the point made, give their reaction. Racist and bigots attack at whatever opening they find. I assume you are white. If you voted for a white person in your life then it was because he or she was white. Does that make sense? Only to racists and bigots.

If we are at the point where Oprah is the factor deciding our next President, we are in sad shape, indeed. Frankly, she is endorsing him because he is black and that won't work with me and millions of other white people in America. Oprah should go back to what she knows best; diet tips!

    • Posted By: TeamO66 @ 12/10/2007 11:29:44 AM

"The (millions) of other white people like you is precisely the reason we need Obama!
Your so-called "millions" of whites (those who would never vote for a black candidate regardless of qualifications) I figure to be 10% MAX of the population...SORRY, WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU, YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE!!!

  • Posted By: JOswaks @ 12/10/2007 11:28:36 AM

Unless there are other television personalities that are willing to enter the mix I think that there should be rules to prevent Oprah Winfrey from using her brand to publically endorse Obama. It is impossible to separate the 2 once you have rung the bell.

Comment: The greatest peace I have is in knowing and trusting not in whether Oprah Winfrey or any other celebrity endorses a candidate, but knowing that who God Himself has ordained to run this One Nation Under God will be selected to sit in the White House. I am somewhat concerned for Obama, for it is almost as if he is a pupet being maneuvered by a woman or women stronger than he. I hope and pray we as Americans do not fall under false ideology because we've been seduced by some television icon's touts, but that we would think for ourselves and most of all, we would have enough humility to pray and ask God Almighty for direction. We can not expect His protection if we refuse to seek His direction. I have nothing against Oprah personally, but she does not have all the answers, she is not above anyone of us, she is truly fallible, and I would not make my decisions based on who Oprah Winfrey endorses. People who speak only what pumps others up will be found to fall flat in the end.

May God guide us and may we heed to His guidance.

There is no place for religion here. Religion requires ignorance and tutelage. We need to supersede irrationality and fantasy and maybe we will stop all these wars.

    • Posted By: Coollady @ 12/10/2007 11:17:13 AM

You've got to be kidding me! What does religion have to do with this discussion?? Some people are just plain idiots!!!

    • Posted By: TeamO66 @ 12/10/2007 11:14:38 AM

Okay, Jesus would NOT vote, right? But if he did, what candidate best exemplifies THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST? NOT Christianity. THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST? Ask yourself that question, why are so many of you so preoccupied with Oprah?

  • Posted By: tolidude @ 12/10/2007 11:27:30 AM

If Oprah's intelligence was so "average" Coollady, why is she so rich, successful and influencial? Your comment shows how below average YOUR intelligence is, because it's not about black or white anymore, it's about green. And Oprah's reputation speaks for itself, she deals with the rainbow sister, and not Obama because he's black, it's because we americans want change, and he symbolizes a new, transparent america.

  • Posted By: Pontificator @ 12/10/2007 11:27:23 AM

The sad thing is that we all know Hillary lacks ethics and character to be president, but the backlash against Bush is so strong that we would vote for her anyway. Then there is Obama, we want someone else, we want to support him, we all remember that stirring speach at the convention. Unfortunately, we have also gotten to know the real Obama, which pales in comparison to the hope.

  • Posted By: Tony C. @ 12/10/2007 10:26:49 AM

Who was running? Oprah or Obama? Obama sure seemed dull and uninteresting after Miss THiING! Looked like he needed some OXYGEN!

    • Posted By: Coollady @ 12/10/2007 11:26:45 AM

Obama has always been boring to listen to! He's about as uninteresting as a person can get! He just DOESN'T have what it takes to make it in the White House!

  • Posted By: JGaines90 @ 12/10/2007 10:27:43 AM

Black people continue to state that race is relevent in society because it is. A perfect example of this is the entire point that people are trying to make about Oprah endorsing Obama because he is black. Ask yourself, why does the thought even enter into your thinking if it doesn't matter whether or not you are black or white. Oprah hasn't made the case ONE TIME that she supports Barack Obama because he is black. In fact, it is quite easy to make the case that the reason why Oprah is on the campaign trail for Obama is to attract the WHITE FEMALE VOTE. So why then are all these people saying now they will never vote for Obama because Oprah and Obama are playing the "race card". Wow, it just seems like folks will use the smallest thing to attack Obama based on his race. Continue to rationalize to yourself that race doesn't matter in society. You aren't accepting Oprah or Obama on face value and are qualifying both of them based on their race. STOP BEING A HYPOCRIT

    • Posted By: kjb79 @ 12/10/2007 11:26:17 AM

I'm sorry JGaines90, but if Oprah is going on about Martin Luther King and his "we have a dream" speech then there has to be an element of truth to what they're saying.

  • Posted By: JGaines90 @ 12/10/2007 11:26:04 AM

ONCE AGAIN why are people acting like this is the first time a celebrity has endorsed a candidate. And in terms of a candidate being elected on who they know. RIGHT NOW we have a vice president who is the former CEO of Halliburton and a president who is president only because his DADDY was president. Corporate interests have a lot more influence on who has been getting elected in the past then a celebrity endorsement or two. It is time for a change! A vote for Obama is a vote against corporate run national politics.

  • Posted By: momo24 @ 12/10/2007 10:47:29 AM

I love Oprah but the candidates should get the votes based on theirselfs instead of a TV personalty who out shines them. But let the people make their own choices.

    • Posted By: fafolod @ 12/10/2007 11:25:49 AM

Is she forcing you or anyone to vote for him? If you feel this way then that only highlights her influence on tv watching, couch potato Americans, which stresses the fact that you need an outdoor life: play ball with the kids, friends, go outdoor and stop watching tv and maybe then you won't feel her influence on you.

  • Posted By: dmaninmoval @ 12/10/2007 11:25:44 AM

The fact that Oprah has openly endorsed candidates who are white from both sides of the isle seems to be lost in all this discussion. She is a woman who stands by her principles and not based on a trend or it makes her look good with a soundbite like most of the uninformed hollywood actors who for some reason feel that they actually matter in the political arena. I am a Republican and a black man but will vote for who I feel is most qualified and not by the fact that person has my skin tone.

  • Posted By: lbflorida @ 12/10/2007 11:24:17 AM

If America is at the point where Oprah is the deciding factor on who will be the next President, we are in BIG trouble. She endorses him because he is black and frankly, that will not work for most white americans. She should stick to what she knows best; diet tips.

  • Posted By: sugabiskit @ 12/10/2007 11:12:29 AM

So Oprah will get Obama nominated? I think NOT !!!! SHe is ALL for him because he IS BLACK not because he is best candidate.I think we all know that.SHe is so PRO black it isn't even funny anymore. No Oprah needs to back off the po-taters and hit the treadmill; not campaign trail with her man crush...

    • Posted By: connor @ 12/10/2007 11:17:34 AM

Why does she need to get off the potatoes? Just stop with the black issue. I'm white but I'm tired of everything being racial. It's all her character and doesn't she have a freedom of choice? It appears you are the one with the issues.

      • Posted By: Joke @ 12/10/2007 11:22:53 AM

He wrote it because 'It's True!'. .. .Now wake up, DO NOT turn on the television, get a few different newspapers, and start thinking for yourself.

if people can be swayed to vote for someone because a celebrity talk-show hosts convinces them too....that is truly sad. do your own research, then vote for someone based on what you know from all the different sources and how that information stacks up against your own personal gut and experience. In my view, obama is becoming saint obama...mostly by the media. media critics rarely cirticize him in the same way they do hillary. for me, one thing is clear....he is too idealistic and not experienced enough....either in life or in the way of politics...to make a strong president. hillary, for all the hatred that is spat her way....is by far the better candidate....on both side. while biden and dodd are similarly experienced in the ways of washington, hillary brings a new perspective on running our country. never underestimate the power of a woman....to bring our country together while at the same time having the ability to make smart and tough choices for our country. if people can see past the bad behavior of her husband, they would see that she has the potential for being a great leader for our country and for the world. the republicans truly fear her....make no doubt...obama would be but a tasty morsel for them in the general election.

  • Posted By: barroidbonds @ 12/10/2007 11:20:39 AM

The presidential race has become ludicrous. Its bad enough that a talk show host thinks she can shove a candidate down your throat, but what is worse that the ignorant people eating it up. Recommed a book, a recipe, a self-improvement guru, but stay out of politics, Oprah. If Obama was white, she would have no part of him. What's next, Paris Hilton campaigning for Romney? Oh, by the way, Oprah, WHAT does Obama stand for? Her answer: I like him, he is black, he has cute daughters. Great choice to run our counry.

JGaines90, do you watch Oprah every day? If you did, you'd know more about what you are talking about. Oprah is a great woman, but truth be told, she's just of average intelligence. If you'd have listened to her speak for the past 20 years, you'd know that she isn't qualified to endorse anyone politically. She can have her opinions about who she likes and doesn't like, but she is our of her league right here. She needs to go back to Chicago and do what she does best, her talk show and magazine.

    • Posted By: TeamO66 @ 12/10/2007 11:17:59 AM

JGaines90, I don't know if he can....he's gotta polished "propaganda game" though!!! (Just like an "experienced" politician)

  • Posted By: HENRIETTA @ 12/10/2007 11:15:50 AM

Sounds to me like there's still alot of racism our there. For those who think Obama isn't "seasoned" enough to be President, I say "Look at where we are now because of all the 'seasoned' politicians." Barack gets in with the people and has more common sense than most of those we have now.. He and his lovely wife have law degrees, and they are very smart. Are we too AFRAID to make a change for our best future ever?

    • Posted By: Joke @ 12/10/2007 11:20:05 AM

*ponders if Henrietta's making this statement based on her skin color*

  • Posted By: rjstaggs @ 12/10/2007 11:19:45 AM

Just because Hilary spent 8 years in the white house as First Lady, this does not mean she has eight years of experience to be president. I do not understand why the media does not pick up on this fact. Just because she knows the layout of the white house does not mean she will be a good president. One more thing, did we not have enough of "experience" with having George Bush and Cheney in the white house for eight years? Where did all that experience get us? I think it is time for a fresh start, fresh ideas and a new face. Vote Obama.

  • Posted By: spwest @ 12/10/2007 11:19:13 AM

Ever since hearing about Barack Obama on the Oprah Winfrey show and reading his books as well as listening to his campaign statements, I have only one choice and that is to VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA! I cannot imagine four years of Hilary and Monica - oops, I mean Bill! I am tired of all of the color and racial comments - I don't think it should matter! Competence and caring should reign foremost! BARACK OBAMA has those important qualities.

  • Posted By: Intelligent @ 12/10/2007 10:54:23 AM

Obama is qualified and he is Black. Oprah would not support him he was not qualified. She would keep silent. Obama is far more qualified and articulate than George W - why did whit people vote for him? Because he was whiter than the other choice? Give me a break - the Clintons sought after Hollywood, the Bushes, Reagan was Hollywood. Stop whining white people - you screwed up the country - give Blacks a chance to correct it.

    • Posted By: fafolod @ 12/10/2007 11:19:07 AM

This comment captures the essence of African-Americans. So quick id the white race to pass judgments with no reference to the pass. So quick is the U.S. to fight an enemy that they supported and equipped in the past. We live as if we had no past and that's dangerous.
