I think oprah helped oboma with her trip this week end. Im a republican who is going to vote for him because we need a fresh face in the white house. Im tired of all the garbage out there about the clintons, hackwbees, romenys, and the most pact my self on the back ...x mayor from new york. We need a new face in the white house and i think he will fit the bill. Im tired of the demecrates and republicans who are all carrer polititions that are running in both parties.

Obama is a rookie...a freshman senator...with no experience in world politics. If he gets in, he'll be kissing ass of every world leader just to get an appointment. Oprah can't get it right on any issue. Wrong writer, wrong doctor, now wrong politician. She needs to stick to her talk show and stay out of politics. She doesn't know anything about the world...just what her writers feed her.

Fineman you got it all wrong. Obama outshone Oprah by a mile. I was there and with the crowd while you were in your media bubble. What planet do you guys live on?

Fineman you got it all wrong man. I was there and I was in the crowd while you were in your little media bubble. Obama was phenomenal and outshone Oprah by a mile. The crowd loved him. He made every one of them a believer. Sometimes I wonder what planet you media monguls live on.

I guess we should all take Oprahs word for it - after all she is a celebrity. It is unfortunate that an American Presidential race has become a side show for the advancement of minorities. Stop being naive white america - your days are numbered!! I never imagined Oprah to be such a fine con artist.

Obviously there are many posters are sent by Hillary Camp to be here to discredit such a glorious and uplifting event.

How can I vote for HIllary' if her camp can only use such negative and dishonest way to win, such as planting questions, allowing her volunteers to spread rumers about Obama until being found out, and sending people here to attack Oprah.

Some posting are repeated and some don't sound like from any geninue individual but hired guns with an obvious agenda. Is Hillary's camp so desperate that they have to use this type of tactic?

  • Posted By: marytnurse @ 12/09/2007 9:49:42 PM

Mr...umm Fineman is it? I don't know what rally you were at....or did you actually go? Hey, did you all know that WaPo Corp owns Newsweek, and made 3.9 billion last year? That is pretty corporate. Guess you MUST have something good to say Mr Fineman! I must be wrong, after all, I'm only an Iowa voter. And all five of the people that came with me who were leaning Obama but weren't sure, signed up on their way out!

Please do vist www.senate.gov. Even a cursory perusal of the votes cast By Obama since he joined the senate will show that his voting record on all the important issues including funding the Iraq war, Schip, ethics reform and election funding is identical to Hilary's.
You will also find that Obama chose to be present in the senate a LOT less then Hilary Clinton inspite of the fact that they are both running for president . Also do vist www.opensecrets.org. This site will give you comprehensive insight into the sources for both cadidates. The donor profiles are strikingly familiar and in fact both candidates have recieved money from almost all the same industries. The only difference that while Obama claims that he does not accept money from PACs or federal Lobbyists he continues to take money from comapanies that hire federal lobbyists(going to the source directly!!) from families of federal lobbyists and from state lobbyists.

IF as Democrats we all agree that the most important thing for us to do is to nominate someone who will WIN against whomever the Republicans nominate, then Hillary is a bad pick. Personally, I'm sure she'd make a fine president, but you just can't overestimate how deeply much of the American populace LOATHES her. Close to 50% have been polled as saying they would never vote for her; the numbers unalterably opposed to Obama are much lower. I've even talked to Democrats who say they would always vote for any Democrat over any Republican, EXCEPT for Hillary. Even if there was nothing else good about Obama (and I believe he has many qualities of greatness) his electability alone would make me support him.

Oh, BTW, that doesn't mean I think Hillary supporters are stupid or naive. Whoever gets nominated, we all have to stay in the same tent afterwards.

    • Posted By: lionred @ 12/10/2007 12:43:09 AM

Clearly this guy is an undercover Repubican, trying to swindle us smart Democrats into voting for the weakest choice. Which is Obama. The only peope that loathe Hillary is Republicans . They won't be voting for any Democrat. The Republicans are hoping that Democrats will choose Obama, then they will take pleasure in destroying him and the democratic party in 08. Save the Democrats, vote Hillary Clinton in 08! A vote for Obama, is a vote for a loss. Not only will be we lose the White House, but kiss the Senate, House and Supreme Court goodbye as well.

  • Posted By: laland69 @ 12/10/2007 12:09:49 AM

I totally disagree with Howard Fineman's assertion that Oprah has outshined Obama. I watched both the Iowa and South Carolina rallies and I found they complimented each other. It is not suprising many in the media would try to find fault in Obama because many of them fear Hillary will be defeated. The American people are starting to realize how phoney Hillary is. I still have great admiration for Bill Clinton. He was one of the greatest President's of our time. However, Hillary is not Bill Clinton. We should not vote for Hillary because of Bill. Their time has passed and it is time for this country to move on.

  • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 9:06:45 PM

Shame on you Howard. I think you must be star struck! Oprah was certainly on her game, but Obama was far from over shadowed! He brought down the house at the Iowa events, the S Carolina event and tonight in New Hampshire. Oprah may have been a significant draw for the over 60,000 people who turned out for these events, but Obama had them inspired and standing up and cheering! I've taken the time to hear several of the candidates, in person. I like to decide for myself versus relying on the media to tell me how it was. Personally, I don't see how Oprah bringing out crowds to hear for themselves what a candidate has to say isn't better than folks who will make decisions based on nothing more than media reports. In fact, getting face to face with a candidate is probably going to give a truer perspective. And let's all be honest here....no matter who you support, everyone of you would be defending this if your candidate had Oprah's backing and had turned out the crowds to hear your candidate like she did this weekend for Obama. As far as nasty supporters and their comments on blogs and media sites go.....there are just as many nasty comments from Clinton supporters as anyone else.

    • Posted By: lionred @ 12/09/2007 9:19:43 PM

HeartofOhio maybe Obama brought the house down, but it is Hillary Clinton who will build it up!! Obviously from your post you care more Oprah than you do the Democratic party. By the way, where was Queen Oprah when we Democrats really needed her to help Al Gore and John Kerry defeat President George Bush. Maybe she felt they were not dark enough or maybe at the time, she was too busy counting her undeserved billions!!! Smart Democratic voters, avoid the media hype and vote for Hillary "Experienced"Clinton in 08!

      • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 9:31:49 PM

Obviously, you didn't read the point of my post. I don't watch Oprah or read her magazine. Have nothing against her, I'm just not much of TV watcher, especially since I travel for work a lot and generally don't have time. If you had watched, been at, or seen any of these events in their entirety, you would know the Oprah is more an independent. She's voted for both Republicans and Democrats in the past. As have I by the way. I spend a lot of time during campaigns meeting the candidates and I will make my selection based on lengthy weighing of each one of them. Again, reading my post would have would have shown clearly that I don't waste very much time on media hype and pundit opinions. I also don't make choices based on the sex or race of the candidate. When I cast my vote it will be mine and mine alone and based on the research have done and the opportunity I've taken to hear each candidate in person.

        • Posted By: lionred @ 12/09/2007 9:49:57 PM

HeartOfOhio I glad that I convinced you to take look beyond media hype and vote for the best canidate which obviously is Hillary Clinton! As for Oprah, being independent how about being a fraud!!! She said it herself, that she has voted for Republican candidates. All of sudden when someone as dark as her is running, she now has become a Democrat. She probably voted for George Bush twice; apparently Al Gore and John Kerry outstanding Democrats were not black enough for her. Smart Democrats vote Hillary Clinton, someone who has been fighting for democratic causes for a life time. By the way to UofMImposter please take your lame Repulican ass to hell!

          • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 9:57:55 PM

lionred: you would be the last person to convince me of anything. I am convinced by what I see and hear and judge myself. And to be blunt here.....I am sure that Hillary herself would not be thanking you for your discourse here or anywhere else. Your tone doesn't convince any thinking person of anything. Best wishes in your endeavors.

            • Posted By: lionred @ 12/09/2007 11:46:07 PM

Obama supporters this is going to be a fight for the soul of the party. Our political rumble may tear our fragile party apart. If that's what you want, then that's what you will get. Are you idealist Obama supporters ready? Your unwarranted attacks on Hillary Clinton character will be fought back with vigor. If you sissy Obama supporters can't take harsh comments then might I suggest you stop dishing out your god aweful trash. When you write about Hillary Clinton, do it with the utmost respect. If not, we Hillary Clinton supporters will fight back and fight back hardcore! Once again, are you Obama supporters ready? Don't forget even if he should win the nomination, you will definitely need Hillary Clinton supporters to get the Presidency. Just a strong warning!!!

Could not have said it better re: Lionred heartofohio!

I am personally very, very anti-Hillary and, if given the chance, will support Obama over her at every opportunity. Lionreds' rhetoric is music to this anti-Clinton ears and I am not a troll. I am one very PO'd voter who wishes most Republicans would continue the trend of retirement observed recently. Come to think of it, a lot of Dems would do us a favor to just go away as well.

      • Posted By: UofM Poster @ 12/09/2007 9:30:06 PM

Heartofohio - Thoughtful and reasoned comment! Of course you already know this from the response it illicited from our resident Hillary Fanatic, Lionred.

Take the time to look at its posts on this thread. Talk about name-calling, shrill and semi psychotic. These words describe a very large number of Hillary backers from what I am seeing.

Obama is all flash and no substance. Being a black successful young male in america. I feel he is really out of touch with what that 50% black that he claims to be. Oprah is truly just smoke and mirrors, and I was ashamed that she would bring up Martin Luther King's, I have a dream speach, in reference to Obama. I hope people really see that, this is what he has to resort to, to get people to pay attention to him. Very sad really....

    • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 10:53:55 PM

His poll numbers have increased to within the margin of error of Clinton in Iowa, New Hamshire, and S Carolina prior to this weekend. So, he's done very well getting people to listen to him before Oprah. He drew crowds like this before Oprah. Over 20,000 in Texas several months ago. Last time I checked, neither Oprah nor Obama came from privileged backgrounds. They got up every day of their lives and looked in the mirror and saw black skin. Everyone who looked at them saw black skin. The improbability of either of them being where they are seems to me to give them both the right to invoke Dr. King.

      • Posted By: paraman25 @ 12/09/2007 11:03:52 PM

You really don't believe that Oprah cares about blacks in america. Sure she runs to Africa and sets up schools. I remember right after the Oklahoma City bombing, she came to OKC and stood beside the bed of the girl who had her leg cut off and I was in the hospital ER at the time and she came through and she seemed so fake. She wasn't because she was concerned. She was there to get ratings. It is the same thing now. She wants ratings, the same as Obama does. As for being black, Oprah doesn't look out in audience and see black faces, but yet she wants to appeart to care so much about them. It is all smoke and mirrors.......

        • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 11:12:30 PM

Then why did she look out to a crowd of 30,000 in Columbia, S Carolina today and see predominately black faces? None of them had to come, yet they did....in droves! Did you go? Did you watch it? The crowd was overwhelmingly black. In Iowa, an area that is predominantly white, there were white and black. In Cleveland, in February, I was there with 3,000 other folks....without Oprah and saw blacks and whites, and
Asians all around me. Imagine....a diverse crowd of all races and genders and economic levels....all coming together to unite as one. How can you fault that? Dr King sure wouldn't.

People in America have become oh so vain! There are 50,000 idiots who will show up for anything.
They probably thought sugar momma Oprah was going to give them a new car! Give us smart Democrats a break. We will not be convinced by such display of silliness. Smart democrats vote for Hillary Clinton in 08!

Don't make the same mistake that I nearly made. Bill Clinton is NOT running for this office! His Wife is, and they are two different people. She will set her own poplicies and I personally have no faith in her. She's proven to be untrustworthy and dishonest. I like Hillary, but that has nothing to do with her ability to bring our Nation out of the muck and mire. Obama, who is a newcomer is proving to me to be the better person for the job. Race and or gender is the VERY last thing on my mine.

    • Posted By: paraman25 @ 12/09/2007 10:55:43 PM

You know it is funny. Back in the beginning Obama stood up and said he didn't want to run a campaign of slinging mud, but that clearly has changed. He attacked her and then cried foul when she returned the favor. He is little boy trying to play in grown up world and trying to have it both ways and gets upset that he can't......

      • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 11:04:23 PM

Good thing she has given up complaining about being "attacked" when her judgement and what her positins might be have been questioned. Also good thing Bill hasn't complained anymore about the "boys" ganaging up on her. So far, the race for the Democratic nomination has been downright civil compared to what the Republican machine will throw at her.....there will be plenty of mudslinging then.

I just watched the Oprah's and Obama's entire speeches in SC on BarackObama.com. I have no idea what Howard Fineman is talking about. It was Obama, not Oprah, who had the crowd on their feet ,cheering and chanting. No doubt Oprah's participation is why such a large crowd turned out, but it was Obama's performance that clearly inspired them, based on audience reaction. I predict many undecided voters who attended are undecided no more.

Russert was trying to be tough with Mayor Giuliani but Rudy handled it well. Of course, nothing was said about Rudy???s tough and sometimes unpopular decisions in NYC to stop the crime, balance the budget and clean up the streets. Is he going to dig up ???potential dirt??? form all of the candidates on his show? Is this the purpose? Or is he going to allow us to hear what these candidates are going to do for us. It will be interesting to see the next few shows. Rudy is the only LEADER that is capable of making ???on the spot??? intelligent decisions that we have facing our country. Bush, the family man, got us nowhere. In my mind, he has proven himself most worthy! Or do we need to divide from the world more and have a southern Baptist Preacher to face our enemies. What a joke that would be following the Bush years! If you think they are laughing at us now, just wait. Get Rudy elected! He is our only prayer!!

    • Posted By: marytnurse @ 12/09/2007 10:52:52 PM

Howard Fineman represents the old, uninspired, establishment outlook. He can't hear or comprehend the eloquence of Obama. Name me a more eloquent candidate? Name me someone else that has been generating large crowds without Oprah there as a draw? NO ONE>
Fineman, not only do you not get it, you do not want to get it.
I watched everyone of the Obama Oprah events and in each one, the Candidate was the one that moved, inspired and informed the audience.

  • Posted By: salyervet @ 12/09/2007 9:22:15 PM

Don't you love it when Republicans posing as "Hillary Supporters" talk about all the reasons why Democrats should nominate her instead of [insert name of any other Democratic candidate]. Even a quick read of the right wing blogs reveals the conventional wisdom of the GOP, namely, that the only candidate they stand even a small chance of defeating is HC. The high negatives, illusory gender vote, easy attack points . . . it's all there. No other Democratic candidate offers a similar opportunity.

And by the way lionred, you silly turd bucket, there are no Hillary supporters that would not vote democratic if she were not nominated. Every one of them believes any Democrat to be a better choice than any of the Republican options. Except you, or course.

    • Posted By: lionred @ 12/09/2007 9:38:51 PM

I glad that you are smart enough to be a democrat. However you need to become more educated than you think you are. Smarty pants You are DEAD WRONG to assume than any democrat will do. Stop such foolish idiotic thinking! Turning the country over to inexperienced hands, is just as bad as turning it over to Republicans! Obama will not only lose the Presidency, but he will cause the Democrats to lose the House, Senate and more importantly the Supreme Court. Now clearly you are the silly turd bucket!!! Smart Democrats vote for Hillary 08, those of you mentally lacking vote for Obama!

      • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 9:46:13 PM

If this is true then why do polls show that Clinton right now is barely above any Republican candidate, yet Obama is several points ahead of them all? Why also is it that several articles recently indicate that many Democrats in Congress who will have to campaign for re-election have a lot of concerns about Clinto being the Democratic nominee and worry that the fact that she is seen as the most devisive candidate will hurt them, especially in races where they are going to need independent votes to help their own candidacy?

        • Posted By: lionred @ 12/09/2007 10:25:50 PM

Only fools, follow polls! If the polls were right, Howard Dean should have been our President! Obviously you seriously lack intelligence. The dirty Republicans are working night and day to trick us Democrats into foolishly voting for Obama. They know he is our weakest choice. Biden, Edwards and definitely Hillary trumps this inexperienced two year old senator! If you really love our party, don't be foolish and waste your vote on Obama. He will lose the presidency, democrats will lose the House and the Senate and we will lose the Supreme Court. A vote for Obama is a vote for the destruction of the Democratic party. Be smart, vote Hillary in 08!

I am capable of debating ideas without insulting you, can you not do the same?

Finally, you are right about something UofMImposter...I am a true blue Democrat. However, if you are offended by my ardent defense of Hillary ...too bad! I have had it with you silly uneducated Obama lovers who think you're going to be getting a free ride with your Hillary hating. Hillary and Bill Clinton has a superb track record of fighting hard for the Democratic party. We Democrats would be incredibly foolish to dump her for the newest and latest and media hype in Obama. If we don't fight hard for Hillary when she needs our support, then we Democrats truly are losers to the core of our soul! Fight hard for Hillary, for years she has fought hard for us. I can't say the same for baby face Obama. To those of you foolishly supporting Obama, be forewarned your foolish idealism will destroy our party. With Obama as our candidate, we will lose the House, Senate and the Supreme Court. Don't waste your vote on him. Vote for Hillary 'Experienced' Clinton in 08!

        • Posted By: heartof ohio @ 12/09/2007 10:25:47 PM

Actually, I am quite educated, thank you very much. Worked hard and paid for it all by myself. Secondly, Bill Clinton isn't running, Hillary is the candidate. And finally, being the diehard Democrat you are and considering how much "experience" plays a role in your support, might I ask why you aren't supporting Dodd or Biden? They both have more experience, by a number of years than any Democratic candidate.
