Dude: If Goerge W. can run this country (or at least was given an opportunity to) , Obama can certainly do it much better. We need a clean slate in this country, a complete paradigm shift at every level - healthcare, taxes, race relations, foreign affairs etc. you name it - and I for one believe the more "experienced" you are in anything, the harder it is to switch gears to a new beginning. So yes, bring on the brother with deep intellect, clear vision, charisma to spare and a boldness to offer our country a brand new day. Jah bless!

A typical opinion by a white guy. Obama did fine and Oprah and his wife did fine. Stop trying to put him down, we know you love your little Hilary.

A white guy's response. Obama did just fine and Oprah didn't outhine him or his wife.

? What Color is That, Obama Is more white then you think! He was raised largely by his grandparents and Mother , Who's Name was Ann, and both Mother And Grandparents were white.

Obama is supposed to about the future and not the politics of the past. Yet in South Carolina Oprah sounded like she was channeling the civil rights movement of the 1960s. I almost expected to see her raising her first in a black power salute. And what was with that overly pronounced southern accent? She has lived in Chicago (and now Santa Barbara, CA) for over twenty years - it cames off as pandering to the crowd. It sounded just like the "politics of the past" to me.

The Civil Rights Movement IS still going on. Why else would people not be able to separate color from candidacy.

If you were to choose someone to help you get elected, Oprah was definetly the right choice. She commands a mass of loyal watchers to her show and we the people as stupid t.v. watchers listen to big name people. I do believe the only reason she is endorsing him is that he is part black and looks the part. The black community is dreaming of the day when they will get their chance in the White House! To be honest this man Obama hasn't the experience to fufill the office of President. He thinks one term in the Senate prepares someone for this job. I think also with a name like Barack Obama it sounds to close to Osama bin Laden and the voters wont choose him based on the name recognition.

It is abundantly clear that lots of people believe Oprah endorses Obama simply because he is black. Why is it that the motives of Chuck Norris, Barbara Streisand, and other actor/performer/singer persons aren't being questioned? Is it possible that these people refuse to endorse Obama because he is black? Oh no, that is just as ludicrous as the idea that Oprah only sees a black man. It seems that some of us only see Oprah and Obama's ethnicity as their single most important unifying factor.

I love Oprah and I hate obama, do you know in a debate he refused to swear allegiance to the flag and hold his hand over his hearth. What person runs for presidency and not swear allegiance to the flag. If you going to be in this country and reap all the benefits you better show respect

Chuck Norris has caused me to take a second look at Huckabee. I'm disappointed that Chuck is republican, but I definitely am interested in his opinions. Not because he's an actor or famous but because I know who he is and what he has gone through and accomplished. Neither of these celebrities will cause me to vote for either of their candidates, but they have caused me to look closer at what the candidate stands for.
Truthfully, I've chosen mine, and it's neither of these. That doesn't mean they're bad candidates, it just means that mine is better. Of course, after the primary, I'll have to choose another because Kucinich won't make i through, but until then, I'm behind him 100%.

I love Oprah and I love Obama. However, would she be doing the same thing if Obama was a tall, skinny white man instead of a tall, skinny black man? If not, then Oprah, even Oprah is touched by racism.
I have never worried about the color of a man/woman's skin, but, instead, what was in their heart and mind. Is Oprah doing this because Obama is the right candidate or is she doing it only because he is a viable candidate, with a chance of winning, who happens to have more melanin than the other candidates?
Kucinich would seem to be much closer to her politically philosophical base, why is she not stumping for him?

  • Posted By: Fasteddie @ 12/10/2007 11:34:12 PM

It's funny how many posters seem to feel that Oprah is endorsing Obama because he is black. Had you been paying attention you would know that he is her Senator, and she was one of the people to suggest to him that he run. She donated the max $2,300 sponcered a fund raiser at her home and is out campaigning for him. Where I come from they call that, putting your money where your mouth is. she has said she's never done this before.......Maybe, just maybe she believes he is the leader that this country needs today.
America, don't you just love it !!!!

    To amamdaC:
Me, ignorant? No you are very ignorant. First you show ignorance by saying the Republican Party wants to start WWIII. Second you say you are intolerant of Republicans. Intolerance causes wars. Now you are a hypocrite.

Comment: I'd rather have Obama on the dem ticket than
Hillary but after watching his rally on C-SPAN I'm not so sure. like most Democrats he spent to much time talking about the past and attacking Bush. That's why I don't like Democrats, and the comments here just prove my point. You take your dislike of their religious values and views to the extreme to the point that you refuse to compromise or even attempt to learn about their views or accept them as their opinions without calling them extremists or nutcases. I'd say Republicans are more intolerant of things outside the US, but you Democrats are way more intolerant of things, such as Republicans and their views inside the US. I see more bashing and slander coming from the Democrats these days then ever before most of it because of ignorance of the other wing and media caused hate. Please stop your hate and ignorance before its to late.

And one last thing, isn't it funny how everybody attacks Huckabee when Chuck Noris supports him, but when Oprah supports Obama its great?

  • Posted By: wored @ 12/10/2007 9:56:20 PM

Within the Democratic Party race matters very little
so Obama may well when the nomination
but racism is far from dead in the United States the Republicans know this
in fact they're banking on it that is why Barak Obama stated he has more Republicans want his staff than any other Democrat
the Republicans pull the same trick with Senator McGovern
    and Nixon craned him

mswhyte, I wish you would have posted your latest blog instead of attacking one's intelligence; you would have been taken more seriously. Whether I agree with your most recent statement or not, there are certain boundaries and resonable rules of decorum that have the purpose of creating expectations that maintain balance. I advocate neither an anarchist nor an autocratic sense of social systems. I do however expect a red street light to mean stop, streets to be safe from extreme crime, and people to respect one another's opinion in the USA. Rukes, when generally accepted, may be changed not by fiat, but by dialogue and competing forces exerting their reasonable influence. In other words, Obama should follow the expected set of behaviors until those rules are changed together. He should show the country he cares, wear the flag, and pledge allegiance to our flag. AFTERWARDS, he can try to change things in small steps, like the rest of us.

Longjohn you have too much time on your hands. Their is no such thing as a Black Supremacist. If that's the case I guess Hillary is a White Supremacist, and Gulliani is an Italian Supremacist. Need I say more?
You may not like the taste of the medicine, but most of the time it will save your life. Obama is running because he is as qualified as the next. Get a clue and stop the racist attitude.

no such thing? He didn't say she was the boogieman, little girl.. He said that she tends to favor supporting black people, over whites.. . I think that's what he was reaching for. ..

        • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 5:04:36 PM

Whatever. Why reach when you can say what you mean and mean what you say.

It is obvious by the number of posted comments on this article a lot of interests has been generated by Obama's bid for the presidency. Americans are talking about who will take the leadership of this nation and getting involved in the process. I suspect if this was the usual two man race we would be bored with the stump. There are some valid points raised here about Barack Obama's capabilities. There is also the never ending dialouge on race. It appears that there are many individuals who really are stunned that there is a black man who has the potential to lead this nation. Whether that is acceptable to them or not is another issue.
I also believe that the combination of Obama and Oprah is very upsetting to many people. They are influential as individuals. There is no denying that about them. I have seen and heard many reactions about her endorsement. Some points are valid and others indicate how immature many of the nation's voters really are about this process.
I like to believe that there is a seigment of the national population who will make an intelligent and informed choice about the next occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
American might as well prepare for the surge of non white male candidates. Sooner of later there is going to be a leader who is not in the traditional mode. So if you're not ready for Barack there is going to be someone else. Believe that! All Americans and hopefully well suited to perform the job.

I would have voted for Obama untill Oprah went on tour promoting him. What would a billionaire possibly have in common with one of the 80,000 people in that stadium much less me or anyone else. Facts are facts. He has no international experience, does not understand economics and will have a lame duck presidency with no real backing. I don't even want to know what his cabinet would consist of. We need someone with experience, support from the estabslshment to get things done and yes changed. I am now going back to Hilary.

    • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 8:38:05 PM

Here we go again, Another confused DEM. You were for Obama, even if he wasn't qualified as stated by youself, but because of Oprah you changed your mind. I think we need to implement a test prior to voting to weed out the politicaly confused folks that obviously show their ignorance by the comments that they so eloquently make.

    • Posted By: reddfoxx27 @ 12/10/2007 12:10:48 PM

ignorance is the reason this country is where it is? Experience does make you an expert. It is time to start thinking outside the box because if not you will continue to push that lever for some cheese and never get anything but a shock.

      • Posted By: tharsh @ 12/10/2007 12:24:24 PM

This country is breeding ignorance it keeps things status quo. Experience does help make one an expert. Problem is our system of government is failing the people. It is working for the beaurocrats and special interests. As long as people are content to sit idly by nothing is going to change no matter what. Politicians should not be paid. But picking an outsider like Obama will only make things worse.

  • Posted By: ltcastro @ 12/10/2007 8:33:55 PM

I will admit, after Obamas gain MORE experience, I will be more inclined to support them over other likely candidates. Happy?
