uh, yeah, Kate... this post goes for you too: its scary to me that there are people in America, with all of our opportunities for researching and discovering the reality of matters, who still blindly accept spam emails and tabloid media as undisputed truth... maybe these links will help:

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/22/obama.madrassa/
    http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Don't get me wrong... everyone is entitled to their opinion... Its just hard to take a biased, uneducated opinion too seriously...

The Pledge is also not said by Jehovah Witnesses does that mean that they are not loyal to their homeland? I haven't said it since 1969. That's when it became apparent to me that this nation was not willing to accept me as a native born citizen. We (black people) have been builders of this nation and have given our lives since the American Revolutionary War~and it is a matter of fact that we have not been well received. I don't care if Obama says the pledge or not. There is a habitual liar by the last name of Bush that probably does so frequently but that does not make me believe he is pro the entire citizenship. A real patriot sees the flaws and is not afraid to stand up and move to correct them. There are numerous patriots in this nation that have been marked as non-supportive because we won't say yes to every insane thing that is done by our government.

mswhyte, who cares about Michelle Obama; she isn't running for president. If you consider the charade, absurd behavior, and lack of experience a "little gesture", then it is you with the limited mental, and probably emotional, capacity. Time will reveal the truth.

  • Posted By: no95 @ 12/10/2007 6:34:45 PM

I couldn't help to notice in the news clip earlier that the demeanor of the Mrs. seemed to change as he embraced Oprah and then turned back to her. Something going on behind the scenes???

    • Posted By: mswhyte @ 12/10/2007 8:18:47 PM

Grow up! It is obvious that you have not taken any time to learn about Michelle Obama. She is more than capable of holding her own as a woman and as Barack's wife. Either join in a political discussion or go to the gossip pages! This is one of the most important elections of this decade and all you can comment on is some petty little gesture. Please do not insult our intelligence. Also do not insult the union between the Obamas. This comment only indicates to me that you are very small minded.

What! are you high? Are you on something? Have you looked at the candidates on YouTube or their websites? Have you read Obama's two books? Go get some knowledge, then come back and talk to us!

  • Posted By: ltcastro @ 12/10/2007 8:15:32 PM

The office of the president is to be taken seriously. The charade by these liberals makes a mockery of the process and the office. I certainly wouldn't want a surgeon to behave in the same manner as Obama to perform a life saving surgery. Writing books and two years in political office are NOT enough to run this country. The inexorable decisions made by a president may have permanent repurcussions.

  • Posted By: bostonman1 @ 12/10/2007 1:06:15 PM

First of all, Barack HUSSEIN Obama, has only been a politician for two years. He does not have the experience to entrust the most powerful nation on earth with. It's not about race, but people like Oprah, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would like to suggest it is.
They don't care about his lack of experience, just that he's black. If Obama fails to get elected, those three will say it's because he's black.
    But, that's not true.
General Colin Powel, former Secretary of State would be an ideal President. He has the brains, military experience and political savy needed. He's the one black man that can be and deserves to be President.

We need to vote what's right for the country and it's people. After GWB screwing up this country for the past 8 years, do we need another mistake. The Christians got him elected and now people of color want Obama, come one now.
Lets make the right choice People. You can't entrust this Job to just anyone! Not that we have great choices. Where's Ross Perot when you need him!

    • Posted By: ltcastro @ 12/10/2007 8:00:04 PM

I agree! Well said Bostonman1. The REAL issue is whether Oprah-Fed Obama is qualified! It will be a truly sad state of our society if we elect a media clown just because he/she dance and play cool music and put on a circus show. I am not suggesting candidates do not put on a show, but it is as controlled as a person with great responsibility should.

    • Posted By: olive4592 @ 12/10/2007 1:55:16 PM

Obama has only been a U.S. Senator for 2 years, yes - but he started serving in the Illinois Senate in 1997. So actually he's been a politician for a good ten years. Maybe you should do a little research before you judge.

      • Posted By: womo @ 12/10/2007 6:24:20 PM

I hate to ask: but are you racist? Or you concern about Obama because of his race and you're trying to hide prejudice in the guise of experience? Have you look at his website or heard some of his speeches? I must admit that the speeches he gave over the weekend with Oprah were weak. All in all he is the best orator we've had since JFK--but better by far than GW!

  • Posted By: ceasarcarcus @ 12/10/2007 6:47:40 PM

This message is for SCAIDEZ: I see your comment concerning race. As a black man, I would say that I am inclined to agree with you. However, do you believe that if Hillary Clinton was black, Barbara Streisand would endorse her? The fact is, while many people may not be racist, most are race conscious. Anyone who denies it is a liar. The reason Barack Obama is so remarkable is because he contradicts the stereotype of the stereotypical black man -- that is largely represented by the images portrayed by our ignorant and greed driven hip/hop culture. Barack Obama is our Cinderalla Man. So if Oprah or whoever wishes to support him, I think it is okay. That is the same for any candidate. Furthermore, when other black men, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, made their bids for president, Oprah did not jump in their corners. Why is that? I really think it is because they were not like Obama. Whether he is white or black, something is different.

Only this past weekend. Check out his speeched at JJ Dinner or for the matter, the Demo National Convention, or the countless other speeches he's given. He is the best since JFK.

i've read comments from members of this site since America's desegregation America has never had a black , Asian, Hispanic, or any other ethnicity appointed as president of the United States, Barrack Obama is half white and half black he seem s to be honest so what if oprah supports him , i think Africa Americans have someone to look up to. Spending 8 years in the White House does not give you experience to be a Presidendial candidate, but only experience with the president,Monica Lewinsky can attest to that.

    • Posted By: yeaney544 @ 12/10/2007 12:45:40 PM

Cmomment: It is lot better spending 8 years in the White House, and for president to befriendly with Monica Lewinsky than spending 4 years doing dope and drinking alcohol heavily while in high school. Barack Obama admitted doing all of these becasue he couldn't hide it. If he did it would have come out anyway. I am African American. I vote for other candidate, not for Obama.

      Concern Citizen

So you would rather Obama do a Bill Clinton and say I smoked by did not inhale--come off it!! If you had any sense you would log unto Obama.com and inhale some of his speeches. Where are you?--some of the unwashed masses who follow convention. Get real, get knowledge!

  • Posted By: eddiewhere @ 12/10/2007 6:34:55 PM

To schaidez: I can bank my mortgage that if Bush were Black he would not have become President; do you agree? Could it be that Obama is being supported by OPRA because he is a strong candidate with good ideas, with the potential to become the next President. Can it be that people think is a UNIFIER INSTEAD OF A DIVIDER.
What a breath of fresh-air. Look at the Republican side and their faith debate, it is so scary. Obama just has something the other candidates don't have. The other candidates must feel pretty small righ now. Hillary is a good politician but you have to be born with what Bill Clintorn and Obama have, CHARISMA. Remeber. Bill came out of nowhere to win in 1992. Obama just seems to be picking up momentum everyday. I never thought I would see the day where Hillary Clinton would be overshadowed.

amazing that this author pumps oprah as well read and blah blah. she is the source of some of the most boring unstimulating tv programming in the world. if she is the best that america has,, lets all go to marilyn manson and get him to help out some of the christian republicans.

  • Posted By: schaidez @ 12/10/2007 6:16:46 PM

Everything else being the same, if Obama was white, I can bank my mortgage on the fact that Oprah would not endorse him.

  • Posted By: pdrammer @ 12/10/2007 12:07:08 PM

Oprah will effect this race. Notice how she changed the way she spoke? Trying to sound like a MLK type speaker. The problem with Democrats is they can't see the forest through the trees. They need a Clinton-Obama ticket now, give Obama 8 years of experience as VP, and then he runs and stays in for 8 more years. I mean, he is young, smart, honest, and attractive. He needs to get with the party and forget about his personal needs now and get the party in control for 16 years. Probably the Demo's will bloody each other up and then we will have 4 more years of Republican tyrany. And I will blame Obama and Oprah for that. LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE!!!

    • Posted By: womo @ 12/10/2007 6:08:37 PM

Who has ordained Hillary, her majesty, as president elect. Have you followed her web site or listened to her speeches? Have you read her book, "A Living History"; or Barack's books. Listen to Obama, he inspires people. I can't say this about Hillary. Her ideas and campaign are standard. Not since JFK have we had so refreshing a political candidate

someone wrote that Muslim beliefs contradict with West culture and that subsequently they can't lead America. That's crazy. Muslims can help lead America. If we accept their tax dollars, then they deserve representation as well. Isn???t that why our ???forefathers??? revolted against the British monarchy? Get a clue. Have you ever heard of Keith Ellison???our first Muslim Congressman. And get this, he took the oath of office on a Koran, the one owned by Thomas Jefferson.

  • Posted By: J_Raines @ 12/10/2007 2:22:59 PM

A cursory reading of the comments shows that America is indeed quite ignorant. I???ve read attacks on Obama ???because he???s a Muslim,??? attacks on Oprah for trying to be a ???Southerner,??? and even attacks on ???colored people??? because we have the sense to KNOW that America is all about race. Give me a break. I don???t know what Obama ???is???? He could be a Muslim, so what? Not all Muslims think alike, right? Of course not, just like all Americans don???t think alike, which is evident by the comments below. As for Oprah, she is a Southerner, with or without the drawl. Last time I checked Mississippi IS apart of the South. Now for the biggest lie Americans love to taut: Race doesn???t matter. Of course it does, why do you think we???ve never had a black (or African American for you PC folk) president. Do ???y???all??? (I???m a Southerner, too!) think that it is a coincidence that all of our presidents have been wealthy white men. Don???t be so na??ve.

    • Posted By: MoMoMan @ 12/10/2007 2:36:35 PM

Clearly you have no clue about the Muslim faith. It is impossible for a Muslim to lead America based on their beliefs of the West and our culture. Crack a book and see for yourself. Its more complex than " people think differently than other people" -

I really hate this election I mean we have a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints (ie. Mormon) an African American (ie. Black) and a Woman. So now we have everyone saying the Mormons are voting Romney the Blacks are voting Obama and the Woman are voting Hillary. This causes a major error in the whole political system, the fact that people should be doing there research and voting for candidates with similar ideas as themselves. I fear that we are going to end up with a president the majority doesn't want because the ignorant are going to vote ignorant.

    • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 4:53:34 PM

Are you saying that the majority are ignorant? I don't have a problem with a woman, a minority or a mormon running for president. My issue is whether or not people will take the time to listen to the issues, ask intelligent questions and then make a decision that will begin to heal this country. When we begin to concentrate on our differences, thats when it all goes down hill.

  • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 12:21:11 PM

That's why I'm a registered Republican. Democrates are hypocrates and racist. Nominate Hillary and hand the White House over to us for another 8 years.

    • Posted By: ANNETTE5 @ 12/10/2007 1:01:26 PM

YOU GUYS HAVE THINGS SO SCREWED UP YOU DESERVE TO HAVE IT FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS. IT WILL TAKE MUCH LONGER OT GET THINGS STRAIGHTENED OUT FROM THIS TERRIBLE PRESIDENT. THE PROBLEM IS WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TO SUFFER. I WILL VOTE FOR HILLARY. NOTE I WILL DEFINITELY NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA. OPRAH JUST TURNED ME OFF.

      • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 4:24:34 PM

Oprah turned you off. See my point exactly. DEMS make excuses for everything. If you support Hillary, why blame Oprah. It wont matter who you vote for in 2008. The REPUBLICANS got this election wrapped up in a nice neat BIG BOW.

    • Posted By: Balance. @ 12/10/2007 12:30:55 PM

You mean to say republicans are hypocrates and racist? It doesn't matter what religion, color, and for sure party if you're a racist or not. Get out more would ya?!

    • Posted By: snarful @ 12/10/2007 12:34:17 PM

Talk about hypocrates and racist. Why is it that all the programs for the poor needyand sick are still being cut by the republicans? Are you not the moral and Christian party? Did Christ minister to the wealthy and porerful as you do. Give me a break , its time for change in our government.

      • Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 4:17:04 PM

HELLO, WE THE PEOPLE are the government. The DEMS are so one dimensional, election time appears to be so confusing for your party. You nominate a loser and then cry about the outcome. Instead of concentrating on the issues, you shoot the messengers. Only when you get past the bigotry and bias that your party clings to, you will then begin to see success within your party. That wil be a cold day in HELL.

  • Posted By: ashp08 @ 12/10/2007 1:19:17 PM

MoMoMan...spoken like a true Anglo. In fact it does have alot to do with race. We don't discuss the race of other candidates because they are white and therfore in your eyes "not a big deal". Think about it. Does main stream ever think about whether a WHITE person can embody the American dream of an African American, Hispanic American, Hatitian American, Cuban American... the list just goes on and on. No, you ASSUME they can simply because they are white. But when the focus is on an African American who is trying to assure US, who have felt that we have NOT been represented, its a shame becuase it makes Anglos look "insensitive". Race matters point blank, it feels good to see someone who looks like me, politicaly correct or not because the Anglos that have been in charged haven't cut the mustard...or the cake, or quiche or whatever floats your boat. P.S.- I do know what he stands for, as with all the candidates but its icing on the "cake" that he is African American. Oh... stop whining about not being a minority. Trust me, you don't want the REAL experience.

    • Posted By: fireemall @ 12/10/2007 4:22:04 PM

Spoken like a true 'African-American'. You mention every hyphenated-American you can quickly think of and THAT is the real issue facing our country. Until we stop thinking like this (and by the way, I don't think we ever will), there will continue to be mistrust and conflict...it's inevitable. But this is precisely what happens when government becomes too big and tries to be all things to all people. It can't do it because there are too many differing opinions on what should be done.
The Federal government should do only what it was originally intended to do...protect our borders and defend the country in time of war. Big Brother is too friggin' big. And folks if you are tired of business as usual in America...DON'T RE-ELECT ANYBODY!!!!
