Another election. Another candidate. Once again, the issues are health care, education, war, economy, etc. Nothing changes, nothing ever does. Doesn't matter if it's Obama, Clinton, Huckleberry, - the same thing wil happen - NOTHING! They'll be discussing the same things in the election of 2012.

If people are basing their vote on such trivial things such as a candidate's looks and who endorses him, we are in really sad shape. This article covers the story as if it were covering the Oscars. Anyone who has taken the time to read Obama's books would know that he is a vital force for our country's future. I saw him speak in NYC recently. It was the most inspiring political speech I have ever heard.

If oprah was endorsing a woman such as Hillary, I would not have a problem. I feel it is more important for her to help a black person than a woman.

    • Posted By: m115 @ 12/10/2007 3:28:40 PM

How about maybe Oprah simply believes Obama is the better choice?? Why is that so hard for so many close-minded people to believe.
I'm female and I'm not voting for Hillary, doesn't make me a traitor to women, just means I believe someone else is the better choice. I'm not going to vote for someone simply because they are they same gender as myself.
I can't wait for the first female president but I want to make sure we put the best woman possible in that position and i do not think that is Hillary Clinton. Sounds like Oprah feels the same way.

the new world, the new vision. i want to hear what it is. im fed up of assuming what the new vision is, utilizing Mlk s words of yesterdays, that he had a dream... MLK had hope that all men shall be treated equally.. that obama has an opportunity to run for a president is the accomplished dream of MLK..how these words are used for a presidency campaign is.. twisting the memory and the purity of MLK s words and inspiration for personnal profit , (this sounds like a group movement that targets specific voters. . .) nonethelss, im sure their intent was to inspire the little people. i found it unethical and lacked of charisma in the delivery of words of oprah. oprahs speach was not as strong as her image. Obama was superbe! when u vote think foreign affairs.. whos the best candidate... a strong negotiator --- Hillary!

Well said aainscough. I couldn't agree more. If I was Obama (or Hillary for that matter), the FIRST thing I would've said when my campaign started and the thing I would reiterate constantly was that I wouldn't want to be voted in because of my skin color or my lack of male genitalia. Research the candidates. Find out what they stand for. Barack isn't going to help every Black if he becomes president, just as Hillary isn't going to help every woman. People need to realize that politics is more than skin color, gender, or even experience. It's about ideals, goals, ethics, intentions and morality.

You may not like it but the best candidate is the one who can steer us through the next few years and whose TOP priority is keeping our country secure is the one who gets my vote. I don't think there will ever be another Ronald Reagan, but there
has got to be a candidate out there who embraces Reagan's politics and can find solutions to get the US out of this quagmire we're in. Mr. Fineman, I posted earlier today that I do not think Oprah "outshone" Obama. Watching the Des Moines event live on C-SPAN, what came through was not only Obama's moving and inspirational speech, but the reaction on the faces of the audience members. It was very evident that people in that room were emotionally touched and lifted by his words. That can't be faked. It was palpable. He is connecting with people like no other candidate. This has turned the corner from being merely a campaign to becoming a true "Obama Movement." I mentioned in my previous post the similarity to Robert Kennedy. I was just a young teen in 1968, but I remember how swept up people were in his candidacy - and, of course, I have read much about it in subsequent years. RFK was a soft-spoken man - but a compelling speaker. Obama is a soft-spoken man as well, but you want to listen intently to every word. He is inspirational. He reminds me of why I am a Democrat. He is the real thing! And I just hope the Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire give him the chance to move forward. This country needs a healer - Obama is that person.

I really hate this election I mean we have a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints (ie. Mormon) an African American (ie. Black) and a Woman. So now we have everyone saying the Mormons are voting Romney the Blacks are voting Obama and the Woman are voting Hillary. This causes a major error in the whole political system, the fact that people should be doing there research and voting for candidates with similar ideas as themselves. I fear that we are going to end up with a president the majority doesn't want because the ignorant are going to vote ignorant.

LAGirl, isn't Hillary a Dem???!!! Ron Paul has the right ideas - dont vote Democratic soley because of Bush. That isn't fair to America. I am a proud democrat voting Republican.

    Posted By: LaGirl @ 12/10/2007 12:21:11 PM
Comment: That's why I'm a registered Republican. Democrates are hypocrates and racist. Nominate Hillary and hand the White House over to us for another 8 years.

To austin 68. you are talking about Oprah and Obama speaking down to blacks by changing their dialect, well at least that have the ability to change their dialect where as Bush sounds the same all the time like a elementary school dropout and he talks to white America all the time.

    • Posted By: austin68 @ 12/10/2007 2:07:25 PM

Red Foxx--I don't endorse either Bush being an idiot or what Oprah and Obama did. If a white person walked in front of black people to make a speech and "kizzied" it--they would be run out of town or lynched right on the spot. I was embarassed for Oprah, Barack. If black people will absolutely NOT tolerate racism from white people, why not demand the exact same from your own? This is just like the "N" word. It's ok for black people to say such a derogatory word, but anyone else say it----whoa watch out. How hypocritical and ignorant. If you held yourself to a high shtandard, everyone around you would be forced to look up to you.

      • Posted By: reddfoxx27 @ 12/10/2007 2:25:21 PM

No it's not okay for anyone to call anyone the N word. But understand this I don't have to answer to everything taht someone chooses to call me becasue of their own ignorance. Just like Oprah or Obama talking a certain way to connect to certain people. That does not bother me because I am not that person. You see people, everything does not have to be a battle. Everyone on this page is speaking about people you have never met or spent more than 24 hours a day with. America chooses to continue to judge people by the color of the skin, the clothes they wear, who they know, etc. When does actual character come into play.

        • Posted By: austin68 @ 12/10/2007 2:32:22 PM

When people like Oprah and Obama stop pandering to the lowest common denominator.

          • Posted By: BBaker2286 @ 12/10/2007 2:56:53 PM

what are you saying? Are you implying that blacks are the lowest common denominator in American society>

    • Posted By: ElliottMMVII @ 12/10/2007 2:02:32 PM

Dear Redd. As I read your comment, I don't see any value in it. you are not happy about changing to become one of the masses, and then throw Bush into the elementary school teachers mass. Which is it?

      • Posted By: reddfoxx27 @ 12/10/2007 2:28:26 PM

The value is that there is more to presidency than how a person speaks. So, the comment that I was responding to was the original one with no value. Some of the people on this blog speaks well but it coes out ignorant. Understand now or do I need to continue to break it down.

America is so Hollywood. He must lack confidence if he needs Oprah to lead in for him. The average American knows more about Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton than they do about the people who are making decisions for us behind the scenes. They invite celebrities in the campaign b/c they know normal political speeches bore (most) of us. I am 25 and it scares me to think about who will be our "president" in 10 - 15 or 20 years. People dont watch the small debates leading up to the final showdown. We log on the internet, Google the candidates name and let some CNN or MSNBC report influence our voting. Shame on us and our evolvong love for celebrity companionship.

    • Posted By: labrat07 @ 12/10/2007 2:48:57 PM

I dont personally care for Oprah but i can see where she is helpful to him. Hillary Clinton draws much of her support from less educated women ( ie. I dont know most of which she stands for but I am going to vote for her because she is a woman too). Oprah cuts directly into that base of support and is arguably more popular. Even if it causes some to look at Obama and rethink who they will pull the lever for come primary time, it will carve into her votes. Not to say that some ppl may shy away from him for the endorsement but in the end will probably be a net gain.

  • Posted By: veteranamerican @ 12/10/2007 12:07:12 PM

I am greatly concerned that a celebrity could influence the vote for President of the United States. I make decisions on my own and I would hope that the rest of America would do the same. Is it that we are not capable of deciding whom the best candidate is without a "star" telling us so? God help this Nation.

    • Posted By: USNavyVet @ 12/10/2007 1:08:29 PM

You're kidding, right? Celebrities have been influencing votes for as long as this country has been in existence. Does that make it right? No. Does it not being right mean people will wise up and vote for the candidate that best reflects their beliefs and goals? Absolutely not. Most Americans don't take the time to understand their own needs, the candidates platform, or the issues the country is facing, so they let someone else influence their decision, usually for the wrong reasons.

"Comment: Oprah could care less about Obama and Obama could care less about Oprah. They both have hidden agendas, her for her SELF and to be seen as this black Philanthropist......give me a break. If she really cares about black people, she can pick any ghettoes in any big cities from NY to L.A. and help those brothers out. Everything she does she'll have a stinking media there to pump that SELF again. "
She's like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpten - you never see them unless there's the promiseof a news crew near by.

  • Posted By: jessmate @ 12/10/2007 2:42:05 PM

When you watch the video clip of Oprah and Obama together and he speaks to the enormity of the crowd having to do with her presence, he then acknowledges the risk that he realizes she is taking, endorsing him. Watch her face. It's clear that she is aware, as I'm sure she was prepared, for the backlash. This isn't something Oprah jumped into with any sort of flippant ignorance. She must have advisors and be prepared for the consequenses, good or bad, of this decision.
That said... Obama being African American will be something that many will be proud of and want to support on top of the capalities and experience he may bring to the table. I think it's not fair to judge the supporters of this. Each moment the races come closer to an equal existance should be something to celebrate. I read some of these comments and I sit here in disbelief at some of the ignorant, petty comments that are being made. The negativity that some choose to cling to is sad, really. Your decisions should be fact based. Too many of us allow our emotions to cloud the fundamental things that should truly be driving our decision making process.

To me, oratory is no substtitute for substance! Inded, from our history of national compaigns, let alone sermons, the former may be an opaque mask for the latter!

Personally I don't think Obama is worried about that. If I were running for office and Oprah wanted to speak on my behalf - she would be welcome anytime.
