How can you assume that Oprah is endorsing Obama "because he's black"? Do you have the power to read minds?? She may have looked around and decided that Obama is the best candidate for the job. There's no tellng what's her motivation. He may not be your idea candidate but that doesn't mean he's not what someone else feels they want. That's why we can vote, so we can select the candidate that the majority wants. So the best way to to make your voice heard is to GET OUT THERE AND VOTE.
Frankly I wish there was a "None of the Above Lever" because so many times I look at the candidates and can't find one that is what I want.
I really wish that the canidates would do away with the idea that they need to tear all the othr candidates down and tell me what their plans and goals are for our country. When I'm hiring a new employee I don't expect them to sit in my office and tell me why the other candidates for the job won't work. I want to hear what they have done and how they plan to do the job they want hired for. What are they going to do to fix the mess the last employee (President) left behind?

To me, oratory does not replace substance. Indeed, in the history of national campaigns, not to mention sermons in the church, the former can be a opaque mask of the latter!

bbaker wake up - the only reason Oprah is endorsing hhim is because he is black. She is the most racist person I've come across. everything she does is racial

    • Posted By: reddfoxx27 @ 12/10/2007 2:34:02 PM

If she is racist then why is her predominant audience white. What is going on with you? How do you even come up with that?

Not much "sunshine" in you, huh. I have to go with Baker on this one. I'll say it again - Dr. Phil doesn't look black to me. (and even if Obama was Asian, he's still an idiot.)

I think it's important that people look beyond the trivial issues here...it's not about the effects of Oprah's endorsement, nor is this about black or white, and it's not even as simple as Hillary vs. Obama. This country needs to elect a president in a very critical time in our history... it is essential to elect a strong candidate that can win not only a primary, but a less polarized national election. After a lot of research about many candidates, Obama is the best-suited for this difficult and important job. People considering voting for Hillary need to ask themselves even if she does defeat Obama in a primary, can she actually win a national election? Obama is the candidate the democratic party and America needs!

I agree. If people are basing their vote on such trivial things such as a candidate's looks and who endorses him, we are in really sad shape. This article covers the story as if it were covering the Oscars. Anyone who has taken the time to read Obama's books would know that he is a vital force for our country's future. I saw him speak in NYC recently. It was the most inspiring political speech I have ever heard.
      deferential

I saw Obama speak in NYC a while back. It was the most

What past presidential candidates has Oprah ever endorsed ??? She said herself during her speech " for the first time " So who is she kidding - she is backing him because of his race. I really did have great respect for Oprah but in recent years I must admit her ego has outgrown her old down to earth self. I no longer have the respect or desire to watch her or ever hear her endorse political candidates for president.

Oprah could care less about Obama and Obama could care less about Oprah. They both have hidden agendas, her for her SELF and to be seen as this black Philanthropist......give me a break. If she really cares about black people, she can pick any ghettoes in any big cities from NY to L.A. and help those brothers out. Everything she does she'll have a stinking media there to pump that SELF again. And Obama.... good luck. You know what his agenda is, this guys could care less about America. I could just see this two going at it: it's your world Oprah!! No baby it's your world Obama...No baby it's your world. Give me a break... I'm black and I'm proud. When we'll have a black candidate worth voting for we would know it. And we surely don't need a TV personality to convince us who he is. This "Obama' is not it.

Where was this backlash when Spielburg endorsed Hilary? What is the difference? Why is it that most articles that are posted on msnbc spotlight authors who always give a negative spin to Obama's appearances. Could that be an edorsement in itself?

  • Posted By: angelica915 @ 12/10/2007 2:30:30 PM

Did anyone catch Chris Rock at the Apollo introducing Obama to the audience at a fund raiser?. He made a joke about blacks supporting and voting for Clinton. He told the audience they'd be "real embarrassed" if Obama won and they had been backing Clinton instead. "You'd say, 'I had that white lady! What was I thinking," and Obama, who was standing right next to him said nothing.....now imagine any white comedian saying..."Why did I vote for the black man" all hell would have broken loose. so don't say it's not a racial thing, because it is.

I think it is hilarious the way people think and make decisions. First of all experience is not everything. I think that a celebrity should be good for something more than to influence people's style of dress and gossip. Oprah is a celebrity that actually cares for the people and I have recently learned that Obama does as well which is why he is a great candidate. I don't understand how some of you comment that he is not experienced. When has experience ever been good enough. The candidates in the office have been experienced at saying what you want to hear and like little mice the people of this country continue to run around as if they are in a maze constantly hitting a lever hoping to get cheese when all they get is shocked.

    • Posted By: angelica915 @ 12/10/2007 12:40:46 PM

Funny, last time I applied for a job, the first thing they asked was "Do you have experience in this field". If this is good in the job market, it should be the same for the Presidency!

      • Posted By: nicale1 @ 12/10/2007 2:29:45 PM

Maybe this why our country is headed for a downfall because it is the experience that has led us to this point......Remember experience has allowed China to own 12% America.....invested wealth portfolio.....

Unless youre running for a second term as President, there is no experience at being President as far as Im concerned. And if you are referring to being married to Bill for 8 years while he had the job, is like me asking my surgeon's wife to remove my gallbladder since she has been married to him/her for awhile and must be good at it. To boot, she only claims involvement in the good of his terms and claims nothing to do with the bad of his terms - any way we can see an annotated list of what she did and didnt do while First Lady so I can be clear on this fuzzy claim?. Besides, all this "experience" she has seems to have gone nowhere since she voted for this mess in Iraq and then voted for declaring Iran's armed forces a terrorist organization thus giving GWB another chance to repeat that mistake. Ill take Obama and his common sense over that despite his being a junior senator to her by one term , thank you very much.

      • Posted By: labrat07 @ 12/10/2007 1:11:06 PM

so what is her experience. Being married to Bill for 8 years doesnt cut it in my book

    • Posted By: USNavyVet @ 12/10/2007 1:12:28 PM

Bill Clinton didn't have any experience either, and was in the White House for long time, and had no experience either. He was actually one of least qualifed presidents we've had in a long time. Of course, he did a lousy job, too.

I believe that Oprah is one great woman. But she is to racist for me. I have watched her over the years continually make her self feel and seem like she is better than all white people. Dont get me wrong Oprah has done many many great things for the world and she is a good person. However her disgust with white people makes me disgusted. And yes she is only doing this becuase he is black. In her world if they are black then they are right. Its a tragedy that the civil rights issues in this country have only been swept under the rug. So sure we dont have riots and mass demonstrations that we used to. But there are still hate crimes. I am sick and tired of whenever a black person is hurt or killed by a white person the race card is pulled. dont you think it should be about 2 individuals who are involved. Not the black and white communities. Where are our mothers? Where are our grandmothers? Why arent they saying enough is enough. Where are our morals and our own perosnal righteousness? As a educated white person. If you think your better than me becuase you are black. GO TO HELL!

    • Posted By: DThurm @ 12/10/2007 2:27:55 PM

Did you read what you just wrote. How ignorant do you sound right now? Why should a black person go to hell if they think there better then you? Because your an educated white person? Your comment doesn't make you sound very educated. And if anything if Oprah was racist she wouldn't be that popular because if you watch her show you can see that a MAJORITY of he audience is WHITE. But black, white, red, or blue. If someone is a good candidate to run this country then it shouldn't matter what the color of there skin is.

I can be solidly for Obama as VICE President, but let's not have an untested, inexperienced President. Where is the rush? Hilary has put in the time and has the experience. After Obama has 4-8 years of experience, then he will be well suited for the main job. We just can't afford to take a chance. We need someone with solid experience. We can't keep paying for the mistakes of Presidents and need someone tried and true.

    • Posted By: nicale1 @ 12/10/2007 2:25:50 PM

Remember our past President's have all had the kind of knowledge that mainstream America wanted and it has not worked........Go JFK the youngest President to date.......

A cursory reading of the comments shows that America is indeed quite ignorant. I???ve read attacks on Obama ???because he???s a Muslim,??? attacks on Oprah for trying to be a ???Southerner,??? and even attacks on ???colored people??? because we have the sense to KNOW that America is all about race. Give me a break. I don???t know what Obama ???is???? He could be a Muslim, so what? Not all Muslims think alike, right? Of course not, just like all Americans don???t think alike, which is evident by the comments below. As for Oprah, she is a Southerner, with or without the drawl. Last time I checked Mississippi IS apart of the South. Now for the biggest lie Americans love to taut: Race doesn???t matter. Of course it does, why do you think we???ve never had a black (or African American for you PC folk) president. Do ???y???all??? (I???m a Southerner, too!) think that it is a coincidence that all of our presidents have been wealthy white men. Don???t be so na??ve.

    Wow, Howard... Man-child?

I was expecting this inside-the-beltway CW that the huge crowds generated over this weekend would be absurdly portrayed as somehow a negative for Obama. And I even expected the predictable "Oprah overshadowed Obama" take...

But, to read a supposedly respected journalist stoop to such small-minded definitions of strength as you've done here, well that's just more than a little disappointing...

I heard that Ophra gave Obama a blumpkin? Is that true?

  • Posted By: lwanda @ 12/10/2007 2:18:52 PM

Good candidacy should be determined by ideals such as honesty, character, determination and vision. Color of ones skin, parentage and such factors are trivial. Look at the previous Presidents and rate the performance of their administrations on the basis of the color of their skin and parentage and be honest with your vote. Barack Obama, regardless of his race, parentage, experience in office etc represents hope and future. America is destined to change how it is governed. Do the other candidates espouse this in their talk, representation?

hello... I think this is crazy... Who is running oprah or obama.... If he has to depend on her star power to get votes.. What is gonna happen if he is president...... Oprah is a great role model but this is not about that.. I think this is a down fall for obama..... If people look at this this is a knock on how society thinks... I want a president that is qualified for the job not uses some ones star power to get votes... what ever america wake up............

    • Posted By: nicale1 @ 12/10/2007 2:16:26 PM

I can say you may be close to having somewhat of the brightest comment on this page, however most are voting for Hillary because of Bill not because of her experience.....

  • Posted By: littlemary sunshine @ 12/10/2007 2:16:17 PM

    Wake up!
The only reason Oprah does anything is a black thing. She is the most racial person on the planet, next to Sharpton

  • Posted By: BBaker2286 @ 12/10/2007 2:10:56 PM

All of you racist people saying that Oprah only endorses black people, you are wrong. She endorses causes that she feels connected to, whether the front man for that person is black, white, gay, or whatever. Oprah does not rub people the wrong way, she is successful because she is classy, articulant, generous, gracious, the list can go on and on. Stop pushing your negative thoughts and insecurities off on Oprah and own up to your own prejudice and closed/ small mindedness!
