I wondered how long it would take "news" sources like NBC, MSNBC, and CNN to panic when the annointing of Hillary is in jeopardy. The Clintons' have to be seething right now. How could a elitest such as Oprah not think Hillary was the end-all. Watch the next few weeks while the Clinton machine attempts to discredit and smear any and all who would stand in their way of becoming the Chavez of America.

Actors, musicians and other celebrities have endorsed candidates in similar ways. Oprah just happens to be a bigger star. Nevertheless, I believe that people will vote for whomever stands for the ideals they believe in. Oprah can use her star power to bring people out to actually hear what Obama has to say. After that, it is up to each person to decide whether he will lead the country in a direction that they support.

Reading some of these comments, I now understand how a man like Bush was able to serve two terms. He is ignorant and the people who voted for him seem to be as well. Research people don't just assume something. Some of you don't even know what the man stands for because you are two busy looking at who is endorsing him. George Bush Senior endorsed his son that did bother some voters which should have been the first sign that Jr. was not going to do a good job. Ignorance ladies and gentlemen is no longer bliss. Before you respond about a person's character that you have never met, do the research first.

Your comment was absolutely wonderful! It is nice to see that some of us in this world believe in 'doing our homework' instead allowing news articles, the media, etc. to determine whether or not we like someone or not... Even to go as far as saying that we do not like someone is somewhat 'child-like' to me: maybe you do not agree with some on their actions, but if GOD can continue to be the loving and forgiving G"OD that he is: why so much turmoil among human beings on this EARTH. Please Wake up America and stop allowing CNN to determine your thoughts...be your ownself and utilize your Senses and maybe this world can turn into a better place

Because of Oprah's massive star power, isn't her endorsement actually alienating than helping? I remember a while ago when rapper 50 Cent commented that Oprah and her show did not identify with the mass of the African American community, I would add that to any group. Oprah is such a mogul that I think only upper middle class to well off, will really be affected by this endorsement. Overall, should Americans (regardless of class, race, sex), be influenced by a celebrities endorsement, isn't the influence or I should say 'hold' of the media one of the problems facing this nation. From the comments it seems Oprah's campaigning really hasn't swayed votes anyways, it seems just like another Oprah show special.

I'm from Illinois. I know as many people that like Oprah that dislike her. I was leaning towards Obama until Oprah.

Regarding the comment about Oprah being referred to as a book club rookie: As the comment stated below: we do have a freedom of speech, but should not we all analyze how we have impacted a situation or individuals in our life e.g. bookclub, other clubs, etc. If we would do this, we would find it less easy to call names based upon external observations instead of actually accomplishments related to the campaign and Oprah's support.

This country is full of white unity and its celebrated daily. I love black Unity. But why is that white america cannot support or stomach black unity? I wonder why? Jews support jews, catholics support catholics, Italian support Italians. But God forbid that two African Americans support each other

    • Posted By: austin68 @ 12/10/2007 1:49:24 PM

To truth504--You've got to be kidding me! "God forbid two African Americans support each other'"? What do you call the NAACP, or BET? If white people had a National Association for the Advancement of White People or a White Entertainment Television--it wouldn't be simply whites supporting whites--it would be white's being racist against black people. Where does it end? Oprah endorsed Barack because he is black period. Further evidence of it was her speech in Iowa and South Carolina wherein she immediately left her polished language and as another put it "sounded like her character in Color Purple". She automatically stereotyped her own people and spoke differently to them. So did your hero Barack. If you want to be spoken down to, great--you've found your team. If you want them to speak to you the way they speak to white America--you better stand up and not take what they dished to you at these two stumps.

God forbid that you actually look at the reasons Oprah said she is supporting Obama. God forbid that you didn't just jump on the thing that they both have in common is race. So if Oprah was white it would be okay for her to support him? And if you have followed politics, tell me when have we had a candidate black or white quite like Obama for her to support. So don't get mad that she is supporting a man who just happens to be black. And I won't get mad that you are going to support a candidate who just happens to be white...lol for the 50th time in your life. I have to get back to work. Talk to later

Sorry but Obama just lost my vote I don't like Oprah now and never did.Obama should choose his supporters better and also people who endorse him.The most popular people arn't always the best just as many people dislike them as well. The bandwagon will crash before November.

In response to suzettecohn, Being of a certain religious backround has absolutely nothing to do with politics. If you would like to consider that someone is muslim and that is scary, you must also consider that cristians have a lot of blood on their hands as well. What seems to be forgotten is that christians started the crusades where christians were forcing their religion on all parts of the world. We too, as christians, must realize that we are not necessarily in a postion to judge other religions. We were also a country who believed once that slavery was acceptable. Also, African-Americans had to deal with segregation until the mid nineteen hundreds. As women also had almost no rights and could not even vote until this time as well. Not to mention the fact that is is almost impossible for the mexican community and other immigrants to find citizenship in a country that once took pride in all the different ethnicities that built this country in the first place. We also celebrate Thanksgiving, for what reason I don't know, but it is definitely not because of pilgrims and Native-Americans came together to break bread. If it is, why did our government take land from our Native-American community and place the on small reservations. The list goes on of all the horrible things that this country has had to endure throughout its history. The point is that we need to get off our high horses and admit that we too are not always right. When you vote, you should find a candidate that best suits our needs. Somenone who is willing to take on the interest groups that control politics. Someone who is willing to look at the whole picture and realize what is best for "WE THE PEOPLE." Not personal and politcal interests. After all, our country is based on a philosophy that ALL are created equal. And that our government should be run "FOR THE PEOPLE AND BY THE PEOPLE." When our candidates for higher offices in this country are actually held accountable for what they say and what they do, maybe than we will find more people to fill the position that are honorable, honest, and loyal to its citizens.

I like Oprah. But I sure don't like Obama.

Who am I voting for? The candidate or the endorser? What are Americans doing? Wow... What ARE Americans doing? Will they just sit back and let the endorsers call the shots? I can only imagine that if I was Oprah, my agenda would be a LOT diffferent that it is now - being a 9-to-5-er and all. So, is it in MY best interest to vote for who a multi-millionaire would vote for? What a crazy world.

If Oprah is all that, maybe she should be running for president!

If folks went to see Oprah and ended up liking what Obama said, then that is fine. But if folks vote for him just because of her presence- then they need to have their voter registration card voided. Times are too critical for our nation for this to be a celebrity popularity contest.

If people voted for George Bush because they thought they could have a beer with him, then they need to have their voter registration card voided. Times were too critical for our nation for this to be a beer-drinking contest.

Agreed, and that's what she said! Did you catch any of it? Great stuff, and his policies check out too! Smart man.

ArthurC Oprah rubs a lot of people the right way as well so I would think one will outweigh the other

Is the world more focused on Black and White, or the main important issues of the world. We are loosing focus on the main issues, I don't care if our president is BLACK or WHITE. If the world can get past race, maybe we can stay focused on the main issues, who will be the best leader for our country. Come on people we are a country full of all races and that will never change. Focus on the issues, who will be the best leader.

  • Posted By: totherepublic.com @ 12/10/2007 1:39:08 PM

truth 504 - let me put this into perspective.

I only want Hillary to win because she's a woman

I only want fred to win because he's a white male like me.

get the picture? "god forbid" you actually look at the issues and not the race. Your as racist as they come
