I have only been to one pet store, a petland in alpharetta that sells real humanely raised pups, they are all excellently cared for and the owner crossed paths with Hunte and the othere's only once due to her franchise agreement, but went against them and her franchise for the sake of the animals and only buys pups from breeders her vet knows are safely raised. great dogs and cats are out there, support those stores that care.

OK, am I missing something here???? Nowhere in this article did it say that these places were shut down. If there is animal cruelty going on why aren't these people being charged, convicted and the keys thrown away???????? There is a criminal act occurring - WHY ARE THEY STILL OPEN???????

to dealmaker44...I feel the answer is yes. Why? Would it be healthy for a woman to have a baby every 9 months? No, of course not because it would be too hard on her body and can cause her to have permanent damage and health issues. The body needs time to recover and replenish itself. Same for dogs, plus, millers who breed that often do not properly care for the dogs to begin with, i.e. good food, vitamins, vet care.
The health of the dog is not important to them. Only important thing is how many puppies they can produce so they can sell them.

I worked for a pet store here in Northeast Indiana. This pet store is worldwide and charges outrageous prices for the dogs which were "purebred ". I was the kennel tech in charge of the daily cleaning and caring of the pups. I saw many dogs, mostly yorkies, come in too small and very hypoglycemic. All of the dogs went through 2 vet checks to check for any illness. Many of the yorkies were given a pass on the exam, and they'd have severe liver or heart problems. I watched these poor babies die. One time we had a poodle who was very sick and I rushed her to the vet. The owner of the store was angry that we had taken her to the vet. He told the vet NOT to put her to sleep until he had gotten a chance to see her. This was a Sunday and he was going to wait until Monday to see her. She died later on that day. This pet store gets pups from Hunte and Honeywell kennels. At least they did when I worked there 6yr ago. They would buy said pups for $50-150 and then sell them from $500-1800. All with papers, health gaurantee and "vet check".

I myself, along with my husband, breed AKC Boxers. We allow any one who is interested in buying a pup visit our home and pet our male and female. Our female will only have 3 litters in her lifetime. She has only had one and is 2yr old. These dogs truly are our pets. They eat better than we do, haha! We make all people buying pups sign a contract and we inspect their homes. Every pups buyer must show us proof of spay/neuter to get the AKC paperwork for their pup. Due to, too many idiots wanting to breed dogs like rabbits.

Any and ALL puppy mills should be burnt to the ground and the owners should be jailed for 5yrs minium with fines of $10k. They should also not to ever be able to own any animals ever again. Any people buying pups should ALWAYS visit the owners home and be able to see both father and mother. They should be granted access to both dogs health history too. Any clean, quality kennel should be open to the public for "no notice" needed vists.

All states need to make stricter laws. And everyone needs to have common sense about buying a living creature. If you even suspect a puppy mill you should turn it in. It is best to adopt dogs from shelters and one bred recues. But if you can truly find a loving, clean breeder that is okay too.
