There is no doubt that the American government knew of this impending slaughter before it happened - and no doubt they knew when it was taking place and did nothing. The US knew the Nazi policy of eradicating Jews and other undesirables well before the discovery of the camps by US forces - but did nothing. The same can be said of Rwanda nearly 60 years later. Bottom line is that without a vested US interest - there is no movement on our part to halt this kind of aggression towards innocent civilian populations.

Funny, my father and uncles were not ignorant of this atrosity in the late 1930s and early-40s. The newsreels they watched at the movies showed Americans across the nation exactly what kind of barbaric people the Japanese sildiers were- bayoneting and decapitating men, women, and children alike. Studies have shown that the American soldiers that fought in the Pacific had much more hatred than thier European theater brothers, and this, plus the "dirty" sneak attack were the main reasons why. You hear nonsense now about it being because of their race, It wasn't, and. In fact, before anyone brings up Hiroshima and Nagasaki, please remember the Atomic Bomb was origianlly to be used against the Germans. No, we knew what evil was going on and couldn't do anything about it at the time. If you want to talk about indifference, talk to the Japanese, who still honor these soldiers and their leaders as heroes and glorify them at the Shinto shrine in Tokyo each year, as well as watering down their textbooks to show that Japan did these things in China and Korea to unite the Asian race. Now, they try in every way to avoid taking any blame-- So, whose ignorant?..

War is War no matter what country or time period it takes place. It always has its evils that seem to grow and and get out of control the longer it wears on. All people of all religions and races have been tortured , raped , or killed. It makes no sense to say which people had it worse in which war. It all sucks but unfortunately its human nature.

What happened at Nanking wasn an atrosity to mankind. The only reason north americans are indifferent or ignorant to the facts is that it happened to the Chinese. If it had happened to any white coutry, the outrage would have been tremendous.

I think he is a Chinese guy who hates the Japanese, but forgets to add the two zeros to the end of Maos figure. Granted the Nanjing massacre was brutal, but when their own leader kills 30 mil thats ok and they refuse to talk about that.

Two wrongs does not make a right. What Mao did to his people does not justify what Japan did to Nanjing and other places during world war II. It is a shame that Japan had the gut to go to war then but had not gut to face their owned evil and savage history.

What they are doing is vastly expanding the so-called self-defense army, military spending of japan is second largest in the world next to the united states, and also japanese government is sending troops overseas which is prohibited by their postwar constitution. Those things kind of cause concerns for the nations that were invaded by japan in the past. Hitler's germany was doing the same things undisturbed by the rest of the world before the second world war.

What the japanese goverment should be doing is officially appologizing to all nations it invaded during the war instead of denying its war crimes. That is largely because of the support it got from the united states. japan was never pushed hard to reflect its war crimes and responsibilities after the war like u.s. did to germany. That is reason why a german chancellor could kneel down at jewish holocaust memorial asking for forgiveness, and it will be crazy to imagine a japanese emporer or prime minister will do the same at NANJING MASSACRE memorial.
I am not so fond of our chairman mao either, he is no saint. But after mao took power in 1949, china was not invaded by any country any more, you cannot say the same thing for a lot of chinese leaders in the past two hundred years, for that I am thankful. And the human cost during the revolution is costly, but knowing that during china's five thousand uninterrupted years of history, with its numerous dynansty changes and inner conflicts which brought a lot bloodshed and human loss, chinese tend to have a slightly different views on human tragedy. That is not to say chinese people are indifferent toward human suffering and losses, it is just different from the pretentious contempory western opinion.
Don't pretend you are so shocked by what mao did while during short history of the united states things like geneciding and uprooting of american indians were committed.

On this 70th anniversary of NANJING MASSACRE, let us remember those THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND or so innocent souls beheaded, bayonetted, raped then violently killed, doused gasoline then burned, buried while alive by the japanese imperial army. We will never foget the suffering and shame brought upon us, it is amazing chinese people after this kind of suffering and tremendous losses are still
able to carry on and love other people after we see the darkest of the dark of human being.

Pretty lame racist comment BuckCN. If the Chinese are looking for a real mass murderer, they need not look further than the face on their money. Mao Tse-Tung. He was responsible for the deaths of at least 30,000,000 Chinese during his reign of terror.

Two wrong does not make a right. Mao killed his owned people does not make what Japan did in WW II is OK.
Japanese war crimes were as worst as Nazi Germany and Hitler. I wish there are more documentary to expose Japanese war crimes. There were countless human lives from other countries (Vietnam, Thai, Burma, et.c) lost to the Japanese war machine in WWII. It is a shame that they had the gut to raise war but no gut to face their owned evil and savage history.

What the japanese are doing is vastly expanding its so-called self-defense army, military spending is second largest in the world after united states. Japanese goverment is also sending troops overseas which is prohibited by its postwar constitution. What the japanese goverment should be doing is to officially appologizing to all the asian nations it invaded during the world especially to china due to the human and monetary suffering it cost, issues like sex slaves(comfort women) etc should be discussed and mended.
The reluctance of japanese goverment to appologize can larged be blamed on u.s. government which did not push japan to reflect totally on its war crimes like they push germany after world war II. The german chancellor went to jewish holocaust memorial and knelt down asking for forgiveness, it is hard to imagine japanese emporer or prime minister will ever do that in front of NANJING massacre victims memorial.

I don't quite like our chairman mao either, he is definetely not a saint. But one thing is sure after he took power in 1949, china was never painfully invaded by any foreign nation like for the past one hundred some
years, that is a lot more than I can say for other chinese leaders.
Also chinese people have slightly different views on human tragedy during turbulous times from contemory
westerners. Chinese history which is uninterrupted for five thousand years is full of dynasty changes and inner conflicts, so bloodshed and human loss was not unusual. Don't tell me during short history of united states you lack any blood on your hands, genociding and uprooting of american indians?
For a long time in history, china was the biggest and strongest nation on this side of the globe, but rarely to my knowledge it invaded other nations. On the contrast china try to live peacefully with its neighbors. Those neighbors benefitted largely from chine like korea and japan, they learned and inherited chinese culture ,their languge, religion, food etc. derived from ours. Japan should thank us rather than invade us, we
brought them out of darkness sort of speak, otherwise they still be living in caves and stuff, I am not joking.
So it was especially abhorring and unspeakable when japan invaded china and cost so much human suffering after china had been nothing but good to japan during history. That reminds me of that story about a pitiful peasant saving a poisonous snake end up killed by that same snake.
On this 70th anniversary of Nanjing Massacre, let us remember those innocent souls beheaded, violently raped then kill, bayonneted, doused gasoline burned , buried while alive by the monsters of japanese army.
People in the u.s.,uk and australia should not forget the atrocities committed by japanese imperial army in the phillippines and other southeast asian countries either, Battahn death march ring a bell. Japanse atrocity knows no race or skin color. I am not being racist or hater without reason toward japanese, I am just stating some fact
