Ahmadinejad speaks of, "equal opportunities to all members of the international community. ...all nations, in light of universally accepted humane norms and mutual respect, to advance together, eradicate poverty and injustice, and set aside bitter memories of the past that were nothing but war, bloodshed, violence and tension." He should apply his own words to his nation's attitudes towards Israel. His hypocracy is unbelievable!

Even as a youngster I became interested in governemnt, starting with John F. Kennedy (what a beginning role model!). With that introduction let me say that after 9/11 I supported my President 100% and I was in favor of the action in Afghanistan and, because now I believed I was hoodwinked, also the war in Iraq. Unfitunately, I assumed my country would have a winning strategy in Iraq or, for that matter, some strategy at all. At this point in time, I can sadly and wearily say that I have never been as ashamed, humiliated and disgusted with my government as I am at this moment. Whenever I think the Bush/Cheney can't make things worse, they do. I am mortified and, for the first time in my life, embarrassed to be an American.

Maybe you would be more comfortable with Kim Jong Il as your leader. Being an American isnt based on just a president or any Administration for that matter.

I love watching this guy make a fool of himself and his country on the world stage...let him dig his own grave. Dictators I I mean presidents like him always fall hard, or get executed by his own people..

The only thing more despicable than this anti-American and anti-Israel comments is that a publication such as Newsweek would give a platform for such vile statements.

This is so disheartening for a US periodical to be a mouthpieces for a genocidal maniac. I am sure a few gay people work at Newsweek. Just on that fact alone, that he boast about his killing of gays in Iran, should be enough to make a decision that this man is evil. But no, give him more credence and allow his words of deception be printed. Hitler also had convincing arguments but unlike they never obfuscated their intentions. What is happening to a country who saved the world from the Nazis, who mobilized, unified and like Churchill never surrendered.

I'll tell you a quick story about a scientist
      living in the year 2023.

The scientist in the story builds an Evil-Only
Bomb. The bomb only kills evil people
and is so powerful that it kills ALL evil
people everywhere in the world they are to
      be found.

      He detonates it.

Eighty million years later the cockroach race,
which by this time has received the mantle of
dominion by dint of Intelligent Creation,
debates clackingly over which was the lone human
pure enough to have survived the Evil-Only Bomb,
      Muhammed or Jesus.

THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT NOW IS HEADED TO DESTRUCTION. EVERYDAY WE SEE THE CORRUPTION IN ALL WALKS OF LIFE, THE WHOLE WORLD IS OFF, AND NO ONE PERSON HAS THE ANSWER, SO OUR POSITION IS TO DO THE BEST WE CAN WITH WHAT WE HAVE AND CHANGE WHAT
NEEDS TO BE CHANGED, IN EACH INDIVIDUALS LIVES, AND THE REST WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.

  • Posted By: sapo63 @ 12/15/2007 4:05:51 PM

ITS FUNNY HOW JUST BECAUSE A COUNTRY TRIES SOMETHING TO FIGHT AGGRESSION AND CORRUPTION, WE ARE BOMBBORDED WITH WRITERS GIVING THEIR OPINION OF WHAT IS RIGHT,
NEVER THINKING WHAT HARM IT COULD CREATE. NO ONE THAT I HAVE EVER KNOWN IS RIGHT IN ALL DECISIONS HE OR SHE MAKES, NO MATTER THE LEVEL OF HIS CAPACITY, ALL OF US ARE NEVER GOING TO MAKE THE BEST DECISIONS EVERY TIME, HOWEVER DECIDE WE MUST, FOR THE WORST DECISION IS INDECISION. LETS CHANGE WHAT WE MUST AND MOVE FORWARD, FOR TOMORROW WAITS FOR NO ONE. I AM REFERRING TO THE WRITER OF THIS ARTICLE ON THE US. POSITION.

How can you, sir, speak of "spiritual values, human dignity, love and kindness" when you, your Supreme Leader, and your government, systematically and brutally and violently, persecute Sufi mystics, Sunni sect members, Baha'i Faith followers, student activists, human rights lawyers, etc..??

Thanks for printing this piece by Ahmadinejad so everyone has the opportunity to see the view from the other side. I would have to disagree with the statement "I think the common denominator of all these problems is distance from religious values". In my opinion, world peace will never be attained until the world takes a humanistic approach to dealing with each other. The world would be a better place without religion.

Why are you giving this tinpot dictator even one column-inch of space to spew this hateful garbage? You do the credibility of this magazine no favors by providing this hateful man in a leisure suit a platform.

Interview between between US miliary chaplain Gustave Gilbert and Hermann Goering, held at Goering's cell in Nuremberg before he killed himself.
We got around to the subject of war again and I said that, contrary to his attitude, I did not think that the common people are very thankful for leaders who bring them war and destruction.

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Ahmadinejad and iran are trying to develope atomic bombs while lying on the other side of his mouth to the dumb liberals in the world...Israel is merely the front line positionin the war on muslime terrorists and so for Iran that is leading the charge, it has to be eliminated, literally wiped away, as its president Ahmadinejad openly says. Iran is quite content with the possibility that their own people will die, because they'll all reach an Islamic heaven, so for that purpose there they're building atomic bombs, and they've already built missiles to launch them...The Iranian terrorist group hezbolla attacks Israel daily with rockets packed with ball bearings to kill as many civilians as possible, they do not wear uniforms! hezbolla fires from civilian areas and every time one of them is killed it???s a civilian. Basically, Israel is fighting Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah sponsored by both all at once. As Netanyahu said: Israel was basically fighting a forward unit of the Iranian army. Wake up western world!

Truth hurts! It seems Iranian president is wrong about American people. They are not as innocent as the government which shows in these posts. How can anyone argue with the deaths of innocent Iraqis on a wrong pretext? Who can deny the American support for Sadam in attacking Iran? Who can deny the blind support for Israel who is commiting a genocide against Palestine? Time has come that AMerican people stand up and counted for or should be help responsible for these crimes.

"The best way to avoid the deadlock is to emphasize common values and the natural desire of all human beings for perfection, benevolence, justice, brotherhood and kindness"

I would just like to point out that Iran's government practices non of these things. Don't they put to death homosexuals?

Nesweek would have allowed Hitler to be their special guest as long as he bashed George Bush. Absolutely disgraceful.

  • Posted By: drorlen @ 12/14/2007 6:26:07 PM

I cant believe Newsweek did this. Why would Newsweek allow a forum for this mans propaganda?

  • Posted By: pwilso24 @ 12/14/2007 4:00:05 PM

This article is a silly puff piece and should give pause to Bush-bashing Democrats. President Ahmad is echoing arguments about "Absolute unilateralism" and blaming America for unresolved question of Palestine - he of course ignores the multi-year diplomacy and coalition-building of three US Administrations on Palestine, North Korea, and heck Iraq itself.
Pres. Ahmad might be more credible did he not have his own violent imperial ambitions across the Middle-East: support for Hizzbolah in Lebanon, Shia in Iraq, and Sunnis (Hamas) terrorists, his hatred of Jews and Israel, his still active bomb-fuel making and ballistic missle programs (the NIE only gave him a pass on actual nukes), his crushing of Iranian democracy and the student protests within Iran.
Frankly though when did Newsweek start giving tyrants Op-Ed space ? Whos next ? Putin ? Chavez ? Kim Jong ? Yup all these guys can teach us alot about diplomacy, democracy and human rights. Pure silliness.

Newsweek is entrely correct to get as many views as possible. Mr. Obama is competely corect in wanting to talk with any and all world leaders. Our chattering classes tend to equate dialog with agreement, but that is their problem. For more on Mr. Ahmadinejad, see
