ABSOLUTELY. One must always go with your instinct. In my wife's case, I think she was mildly depressed because her breasts had changed so dramatically since nursing the kids. She feels so much better, she loves her fit in her clothes, and she feels more comfortable at the beach. You have to understand that her breasts deflated quite a bit. When we found the doctors at -- www.finestimplants.com --and met with them and went through the process of selection and risks, my wife was all for going forward with getting her new breasts. She changed instantly, by that I her atttitude toward life changed. I'm glad she is happy and glowing again. I know it seems like a small thing, but this small thing made such a big difference. So I have to share this. I highly recommend the specialists at FinestImplants.com Good Luck!

Dear Friend: Your wife has made a very big mistake, and I hope that you will take care of her when she becomes sick. Silicone breast implants were never safe to be implanted into the human body. It took almost twenty years to find out that my silicone implants were making me sick. I have had three silicone fluid-induced pulmonary embolisms, and I must stay on blood thinners for the rest of my life. Silicone migrates to every organ in the body...even the brain. You really seem to love your wife; therefore, I hope that you will start doing some research on the risks of her having these deadly devices implanted into her body. I have been helping women for over twenty years, and if you knew what I know, you would ask your wife to have them removed before she becomes sick. With love and respect...Lea

AFTER REVIEWING ALL THE WELL THOUGHT OUT RESPONSES TO MY COMMENTS TONIGHT, I HAVE REALIZED THAT I WAS VERY WRONG. YOU GUYS ARE CORRECT. BREAST IMPLANTS ARE NEVER GOTTEN FOR VAIN REASONS. THE DESIRE TO LOOK NORMAL OR REGAIN YOUTH WILL NOT HAVE ANY AFFECT ON OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. SCREW THEM. IT'S THEIR FAULT FOR ALL THAT DARN BREAST FEEDING THAT WOMENT LOOK THAT WAY. OH AND GOD, SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT MAKING EVERYONE LOOK THE WAY THAT MAKES THEM HAPPY. NOW THEY HAVE TO SPEND THEIR GOOD MONEY TO ACHEIVE WHAT YOU WOULDN'T DO. AGAIN, I'M SORRY FOR BEING SO "WRONG". LET THE ATTACKS BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay Gooby first off what do you care! Let anyone spend there money however they want! Why so mad...can you not afford it?! Next subject please...a bit annoying already.

      • Posted By: goobydoo @ 12/17/2007 11:37:20 PM

Dont' believe that I am the one mad. I have only stated opinion. A few people have not liked it and chose to attack me instead of addressing the issue that is being discussed. Did you have an opinion?

        • Posted By: washatc @ 12/18/2007 12:09:24 AM

Goober, you really are full of yourself. Why are you so vain? Convince me your not vain? You sure seem like it. Nothing you have posted hasnt convinced me that you are full of your self and feel like you are so much smarter than these pro impant people. So mr vanity what makes you the expert. Convince me.

          • Posted By: goobydoo @ 12/18/2007 12:33:48 AM

I have asked several times for someone to state why breast implants are not vain. They can't do it.

            • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 12/19/2007 1:19:10 PM

Actually gooby, several of them have. It is not vanity to want to look normal, even if it is your own definition of normal. There is nothing wrong with wanting reconstruction after surgery, it can help with the psychological healing a woman needs to go through and make her feel like a normal woman again.
Yoou may not like the word normal but fact is we all have a picture in our mind as to what "normal" is. Yours may be different than mine but we both have that picture. if a woman wants to spend her own money to look "normal" then why is it any of your business. That money would NOT have gone to church or charity anyway so why not use it to feel and look better?

      • Posted By: washatc @ 12/18/2007 12:02:53 AM

Hey goober, How is it any of your business what a woman does with her breasts? Your vanity is thinking you are important enough to tell all these women whats right and wrong to youis the gospel. Convince me your not vain little man. Because it sure looks like it.

        • Posted By: goobydoo @ 12/18/2007 12:16:19 AM

I'm not perfect. I brush my hair before I go out. I don't think many young people will be influence by a mass hesterial over hair brushing. Young people are going to face enough troubles without having to worry about their bodies being perfect or fitting some "normal" image.

It is easy to stand by and say be happy with yourself and don't do such fake things but in this day and age that is a very complex statement. This is but one problem is a society that is every seeking for the barbie doll body. It makes me sick beyond compare to see a size 6 wearing women call herself fat. I may be alone in this but I don't even see a size 10 or 12 fat. wemon today are constantly bombarded by the image of what a women should be. it is a rare site indeed to meet a women who doesn't feel there is something wrong with her apearance.

    • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 12/18/2007 11:42:48 AM

I'm with you! Give me Marilyn Monroe in the 50's or Mae West in the 20's and 30's; they were nOT size 6 and they were very beautiful women. The beauty standards of today are not only unrealistic, they can be damaging as well.

      • Posted By: Bornita @ 12/19/2007 12:46:53 AM

Enter Your CommentThen again I think Marilyn Monroe and Mae West was just as unattainable back then as well. And at least Marylin (Norma Jean) Monroe must have been pretty miserable as well. There are simply more effective ways to be happy than beauty. Like I spend a lot of my money on travel. However lately it's just been ecological and fair trade, healthy food. I need to get a job.

        • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 12/19/2007 12:40:24 PM

Bornita - I was actually talking about changing body standards. The women I referred to actually had attainable body image; they were not unbelievably thin and they did not have a bunch of silicon where none is needed. They were real, that's all I meant!

I'm 47 with two children that are College age. I'm considering both a Tummy tuck and breast implants. I've been married for 26 years. have a good life. but, I'm ready to do something for me. I want to feel good about who I am. I've lost 26 pounds would like to lose another 15 before the surgery but the Doctor says it's not necessary.

        so whats your story?

  • Posted By: LouSea @ 12/18/2007 7:54:14 AM

Oher problems and insecurities are usually the reason women want to get breast augmentation. Read the recent studies. Women with breast implants are 3x more likely to commit suicide. That is because there were psychological issues prior to the implants (or wanting/needing the implants).

We're all aging. I look in the mirror and my breast are the least of my worries. My skin has changed, my pores are different, my hair needs dye, my eyelids are beginning to need help staying straight while applying eye shadow (and the ladies know what I am talking about), but if I change and one of my issues, the others are all still there, SCREAMING my age out to the world. There's no way to hide who we are. The question is, "Should we try?"

Believe me, I have thought about (getting) MANY cosmetic procedures. It's not yet "worth it" to me, but to those who think it's time, be careful and make sure that you're not hoping to have larger breast to solve larger problems. They won't.

I don't like getting/feeling/looking old either. I've chose to do other thngs to make me feel better about myself. Few of those choices are visible to the general public... and I like it that way.

    • Posted By: Wrdfrk @ 12/19/2007 11:14:34 AM

Ah, those suicide studies! They've totally spun the results to lay the blame on the women -- they must have started out nuts in the first place, so the smart caring doctor has to make sure he screens his patients carefully. The fact is, the breast implant stories are downright horrific for many women: Health permanently damaged, not able to work, take care of the kids, can't pay for treatment, families falling apart, constant pain. This is enough to drive anyone to suicide, but of course, in the studies, they didn't see if the women who killed themselves were suffering like this. Or maybe they did and makde a consience deicion not to share.

  • Posted By: John Luma @ 12/18/2007 10:07:46 AM

You forgot to mention one critically important issue: Breast augmentation means insurance companies will no longer cover you. It automatically keeps you from getting insurance. Because insurers claim that it increases cancer risks, even though the stats don't support this. It's one more excuse they use to keep people off their insurance rolls who might later sue for problems or bad surgery. Even though those stats also don't hold up.

Check out what I'm saying here. I did the research as part of a story on the insurance industry.

    • Posted By: Wrdfrk @ 12/19/2007 10:55:06 AM

Hey, John, I'd love to read your story. Any chance I can get a copy? You can reach me at info@beautyandthebreast.org. Thanks!

    • Posted By: Mooey558 @ 12/18/2007 5:33:56 PM

This is not always a true statement. I work for a health insurance company and they did not refuse me coverage. As long as I had no prior health issues with the implants or not - I'm covered and nothing has changed as far as coverage or premiums. We do the same with the others that we insure.

    • Posted By: Rogene @ 12/18/2007 10:19:36 AM

So True . . . A friend, an underwriter for a major insurance company told me years ago that (at that time) the only two things that brought automatic refusal for coverage were morbid obesity and a history of breast implants. . . . So guys, when you see a gal with big knockers, just remember they may come with huge medical bills - that YOU will have to pay for - if you want to see your woman get her health back.

I think there is nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery to look like what you were before. This isn't about not being happy with what you're given, but regaining something you've had before. It's like being "normal" again. Just have to make sure to go to board-certified plastic surgeons. As a side-note, http://www.abms.org and http://www.trustedsurgeons.com are great places to find those.

    • Posted By: bethtaylor @ 12/19/2007 10:52:05 AM

I had breast implants for 8 years and I sure wish I felt normal again. So if you feel implants will make you feel normal, please think again. My PS was board certified and very well known. I do think that women need to do their homework before having this done. It is like playing russian roulette with your health. Have you done the research needed? Many, many women are becoming ill and experiencing complications. I should know as I founded a support group. Some are ill and some just want them out because they find them very uncomfortable. Please read the stories on breastimplantsupport.org before even considering having something like this done. That group has convinced many women out of having breast augmentation.

Many women have become ill from breast implants. I hope these women will hear some of the horror stories before going under the knife. This is serious surgery. Breast implants can make you very ill. I became totally disabled after 5 years. That is just one aspect of it. The money involved to replace them can really add up. There is alot to take into consideration before going under the knife. Remember, implants do not last forever and can make you very ill as they did to me. You can read my story at Toxicbreastimplants.org.

Saline implants will not kill you. Your body is made up of water. Saline is salt water and what your body is made up of and what they give you at the hospital. If my implants were to ever leak, my body would absorb the water and the bag would remain in place. Since implants are a foreign object, your body automatically encapsulates it to protect your body. Saline implants are the safest and NO ONE has died from a saline implant or been sickened by one. Again, saline is what your body is made of. You will not die or get breast cancer from a SALINE implant.

    • Posted By: Bornita @ 12/19/2007 4:19:14 AM

Even though the objects may not kill you, there could be complications during the surgery/ies.

If you have the bux, then go buy the buxom! I see nothing wrong with improving one's body image...no one ever cries about it when you get a dent in your fender and you run to the body shop to have it fixed. Does it make your car run better? Of course not! Everyone thinks its OK if you get the cosmetics of your house or your car done, which is still about how it (A) Looks to others, and (B) how comfortable you are living in it. The same goes for the old bod. Yeah, in my 20s when everything was smooth and tight, I said the same things like why would anybody do that to themselves, blah, blah, blah. I just turned 50, and while I never had kids, I never had more than an AA cup. I had mine done five years ago to a large C, and they look great, and are a good size for my body type. I fill out clothing nicely, cute bras don't gap, and most of all, I'm happy! Anyone who cant relate to that can go **** themselves. Of course, my husband said you don't need them, you look fine, but neither he or I have regretted my getting them for a moment...and of course husbands say you look fine. What guy in his right mind is gonna tell a woman she could use a little work?? If anyone is curious, look at pics of me in my homepage and my ME page in ebay under ID gitbit1, and remember, I'm a 50 y/o woman...OK, off my soapbox!

All of these comments break my heart. I'm 19 years old, I know, I'm young. But really, everything about this subject is almost ridicuous. Plastic surgery is a personal decision made by one's self, whoever that self may be and whatever the reasons may be for a so-called plastic surgery. Look how you WANT to look. Feel how you WANT to feel. It's proven that the better one can look then the better one can feel, improving one's looks can even improve one's mood, or one's attitude on certain things to a degree. Whatever is important to someone is their business. All of these comments I have read so far seem to be nothing but gossip and somewhat ignorant perspectives. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and trying to look your best is great but think about feeling your best too, and if you feel the need to look good in order to feel better then go for it. Happiness is an essential

    • Posted By: srmzeus11 @ 12/17/2007 10:46:14 PM

Also, research shows that attractive people (of both genders) statistically make more money, have more success, and have an easier time getting things done that otherwise equal people (in intelligence, humor, wisdom, etc) who are not attractive. So really, the money spent on boobs (or a nose job, or lipo, or whatever) could actually be seen as an investment likely to repay dividends through the future.

      • Posted By: Bornita @ 12/19/2007 4:00:27 AM

But is plastic surgery attractive to others? I personally don't think it's the best investment for improving ones self-esteem etc, but naturally it varies from person to person. If someone understands the risks and really wants to do it after weighing against alternatives, then perhaps, but I think the real problem is this fixation with breasts/ body. I try to spend my money in ways that I perceive as ethical instead. A lot of people need to be a lot more unselfish in my opinion and see further than their noses.

Goody, did you buy anyone holiday or birthday gifts in the past year? Did you ever go out to eat at a restaurant? Buy new furniture? Take a vacation? What vain things for you to do....when there are people who need help....

Breast implants are a great idea. I am going to get them, and when I do, I'm going to ask that the surgeon also implant some Legos and Weeble Wobbles in me too. I'll bet we could find a way to fit one of those plastic jelly donut seats into my butt- surgically of course- so that I won't have to get uncomfortable during long trips in the car. The human body was created to support foreign objects lodged inside of it, right?

    • Posted By: pedsnurse @ 12/17/2007 8:47:30 PM

Gee, your body accepts a *** right? Isn't that a foreign object? Get real - if women want implants, then so be it. There is NOTHING wrong with a women wanting to enhance or recapture their body. Is going to the gym and building muscle wrong as well? And as far as legos and weebles, whatever floats your boat. I have found that most comments such as yours, come from women that have never been less than a size 16 and can't differentiate between their stomach which hangs over and their breasts. So if thin women such as myself wish to purchase implants, mind your own business, I don't tell people such as yourself to get your stomach stapled and stop eating so much fast food.

What a fascinating trend. I certainly don't have the breasts I had when I was in my 20's, 30's nor 40's. The elasticity of the skin and tissue begin to age. I figure that is part of aging, part of what is natural for the body. Do I necessarily like it? No. But I am not fond of the idea of being cut upon or placed under anasthesia unless I have to. I don't really judge others that want to do that . It's a costly endeavor which eliminates many from having the choice. For those who want to spend the money on it...well, hey, go for it. I'm a bit more interested in spending my money on traveling, hiking and seeing as much of this beautiful earth as I can
afford to see before I get too old and and my bones and joints give out.

I just need to know it is safe to do surgery

    • Posted By: myopinion53 @ 12/17/2007 5:40:05 PM

its perfectly safe if you do your homework......check out the doctor you select (i.e., any complaints with the state medical board and ask if he/she has a referral list of past patients that would be willing to talk to you; check with people in your area that have had the surgery; have a complete physical and write down all questions you have and ask the doctor before considering having the surgery.....plus, have this surgery for yourself and make sure you want it and not for someone that thinks you should have it.

I don't think it's perfectly safe even if you 'research' by asking for referrals of past patients etc. However research probably reduces the risk. There is always risk involved with surgery.
