Comment: just one note to Al Kaide: They wont go nowhere in Turkey, they cant even come through. We would crush them. Take their penises and hang them from their penises. The women would hang the alkaide men from their nipples. Turkey is the freeest majority islam country in the world. Booze/porn exist supreme which is a good thing. It shows freedom dunnit. People are free. I love it. The rest is history.

Comment: dear kennjib: what a well-written and reasonable comment you wrote. i confess it is difficult at times for me to think positively about the world these days...but i still have doubt that worldwide capitalism, the system under which these problems have emerged, is going to solve them...for example, do you think it will be easy or even possible, if such a step needed to be taken, to prohibit or shut down all frivolous enterprises which squander resources such as water or fuel? have you heard about the development project in Arizona for a water theme park? if capitalism was responsible in the first place, we wouldn't be in this mess. thank you.

Comment: Pay attention to what you are reading! The article doesn't say all is well and there are no problems. It does say all is NOT doom and gloom, people the world over are making progress in the quality of their everyday lives, and that's good news. The math is simple; economic growth at 5% or more for several years running is the recipe for real success in addressing problems in developing countries. That kind of growth gives the world a real opportunity to address problems like water shortages, better use of resources and protection of the environment. Rising standards of living lead to slower population growth, higher levels of education and more resources applied to discovering and developing the technologies to solve problems. Like it or not, that's progress........and that's real good for most people! -KS

Comment: water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink! how can you write an article like this in flagrant denial of the enviornmental crisis? what good is all this so-called prosperity when we are killing our habitat?...this story is irresponsible...but then, irresponsibility is the american way
