The ‘Body Contractors’

Death squads are killing fewer people, but they're also taking more care to hide their grisly handiwork.

Comment: The problem is that we as a nation must learn to keep our nose out of other nations problems and attend to the problems facing our great nation. It's not about our way of life that bothers these people it's that we try to dictate the way we want them to live. If living in the dark ages is what they want want then let just as long as they don't threaten us but as long as we put our nose where it really doesn't belong this is what will happen. America need to take care of Americans and the rest of the world should come second.

Comment: The president has done nothing right about this war that should not have happen the people who came out to kill us came from Saudi Arabia not Iraq. Some have gone to Iraq because that is were we are at. You say you want to know who we are fighting in the wrong country. We are in the middle of a civil war that happen because we invaded and caused a power vacum. Will the Shiites share their power with the Sunnies, not anytime soon maby ten years from now are more. They are not in any hurry, Shiites have not been in power since before the Ottamaqn empire over three hundred years ago. The fight was also in Afghanistan remember the Taliban who prtected Al-qiedia. We have a legitimate fight their. We also left their wiithout a working goverment and economy, that is who the Taliban was able to come to power with help of the Saudies.

Comment: People may not like President Bush, but he brought out the people who want to kill us and change our way of life. It's better to fight them now then later, the world is just watching and waiting. They will thank us later.

Comment: I am appalled and heartbroken that humans can carry on this type of mayhem against a country's people. I wasn't born yet during world war 2 but now I can read about and observe in my own lifetime a people who can really get like this in the name of religion or might. Something has to be done about it but it's also sad that the innocent has to die for for something that isn't really their crux. We have a president who believes in a free world but who knows. Maybe this is just a common american illusion.

I say pull out and lock our borders to all futher immigration period. we must start taking care of our own countries and live the good life we have that they will never achieve because of there hatered for one another.

Comment: I found this article vague at best. The violence among Shi'a, Shi'te, Sunni, Kurds, Turkoman, etc is not based on anyhting but sheer stupidity and a lack of common sense. The inability for seperation of government and the Ko'ran (Qu'ran) will keep Iraq sliding back to the biblical times for which many wish to go back to anyway. If the U.S. was wrong at anything as far as Iraq goes, it was our thinking that if you give the Iraqi people a Saddam free society and a new start that they will embrace modern thinking and political reconcillation, then we failed. Because Iraq will be a violent place until people really start to get tired of killing one another. We give them money, build them houses, water purification systems, schools, medical sites, render medical support, crime control, etc. But. A Shi'a would just as easily kill a Sunni for some problem that happened several generations ago. The tribal lifestyle is still extremely present. Having spent two tours in Iraq I would gladly hand the entire country and it's oil potential to the Kurds in Northern Iraq. At least they are thankful for the U.S. support and are pro-US so long as Turkey leaves them alone. They are much more organized, and focused on progression than re-hashing old blood fueds.

Comment: 1more thing I am not or never plan to be the next senior military offical ie.(General Such and such) nor am I one of the trillion expert analyst "where do they get all these gottdam experts from anyway"? But I am an Operation Iraqi Freem veteran who was there in the fight and I will throw caution in the wind by the way of the trillionbillionkazillion Arm Chair Quaterbacks not spending a single day in the military so before you go giving your 2cents worth spend a little time down range (being deployed) to "GET YOUR FACTS" NOT WATCHING CNN OR READING THE PAPER or talking to a friend of a friend who knows this guy that went to kabanistubal hadadada in Iraq

ps time down range would mean you would have to join the military..and we have extended the age limit or you could get a waiver this was all implied hit me up and ill get you in touch with a recruiter you wannabe you! then you can do a tour in country and feel free to post comments based on your own experinces
ps ps did you know that only 1% of our nation serves in the U.S. Armed forces so get up arm chair qbs and be counted were always looking for Great Patriots both men and women

Comment: This article is very informative and very upsetting. Unfortunatelly history repeats itself over and over again. But, that not my main reason for bothering to comment on this article, although I thought it was well written and deserves to be complimented as such. I can not help but respond to the comment posted by itkalal @ 12/19/07, one word, WHAT!! I understand that you are trying to post differing opinions about this article, but again WHAT!! This individual is definitely coming from somewhere in left field, what in the world is he trying to say about this article? The article was great the comment as stated had to be written, I cann't think of a better and more fitting discription, a "Looney Toons" way out there.

Comment: Babak Dehghanpisheh flat out lies. The "mass graves at Baghdad's Saydiya never happened. Did he bother to fact check that claim? If he did he would have found this, "We currently have no information to confirm this. Neither the Brigade on the ground, or out teams that work with the IA or IPs can confirm this." That was from the military itself.

    Syndrome evolved

Comment: Point I see your Middle east Education most likely comes from Am Radio Conservative Talk Show Host and the faux news channel. Could you at least spew some orginal rhetoric that doesnt the condone slaughter of these people. Although I will tell you this the link between these murders has been that have opposed many of the so called" oil revenue reforms and who be intersested in seeing those " refoms pass" Who were the master of death squad ativitiy in South Americs places like Agentina,Columbia,El Salvador sound familiar thier bunky? I could go on but being dead before New Year doesnt intrest me.

Comment: To wave54: Sunnis and Shiites have been murdering each other with little regard for the past 1300 years. Any peace or unity that existed in Baghdad was only due to an absolute fear of Saddam's secret police. The United States can never and should never employ such terror tactics and thus will never truly control a population that has been terrorized into submission for 24 years under Saddam.

  • Posted By: wave54 @ 12/17/2007 11:07:19 AM

Comment: To "childomine" -- You can't be serious! Sunnis and Shiites used to live and work side-by-side and the streets of Baghdad were safe at any hour. Now they're seperated into enclaves surrounded by blast walls and many are afraid to cross those sectarian lines or leave the house after dark. Returning refugees come back to homes that have been taken by the prevailing sect or levelled. What a way to define success!

Comment: they live there, they have time on there side they have our money our food our homes our schools and soon our running water an item they have not had sense Hussain. as i said they have time-WE DON'T, EVERY MIN WE ARE THERE COST THIS COUNTRY, NOT THERES! SO WHO CAN AFFORD TO WAIT? NOT AMERICA! PROGRESS MEANS NOTHING WHEN TIME IS IN THERE POCKETS.

  • Posted By: childomine @ 12/17/2007 8:09:17 AM

Comment: It sounds like this is actually a good thing. Murder is always bad, of course, but the fact that they are hiding the bodies means these people do not feel they have the freedom to murder at will. Also, I hate to say it, but is the fact that Baghdad is dividing itself into sects based on religion any different than how in the U.S. we divide ourselves along racial lines?? Who are we to judge them for finding a way to make things work so that there is less violence?
