I just saw The Orphanage and I decided to find out what the buzz is for this movie, which I already consider one of the best this year, much better than the annoyingly overrated (and severely annoying) Juno. I only found out it was Spain's selection for the Academy Awards (yawn).

I loved you review. I must admit I had never read your opinions and I was pleased to find that critics such as yourself were able to "let go", something which grows difficult after seeing so many films. I had the same experience watching The Orphanage with a far less sophisticated crowd in the Mexican province. I may have been the only one not openly screaming but believe me, I was scared out of my wit.

I do have a bone to pick with you, though. Why would anyone call this movie "little". What about it makes it small in any aspect? Its production values are astounding, every frame in it is beautiful. It was produced by an accomplished director. The actors are all well known and the story is a thrilling ride into the afterlife (or not, but you know what I mean).

Like you said at first, this movie is far more effective and well crafted than any Hollywood horrour film of the last ten years. I think it's unfair to call it little on account of a modest publicity budget, which is due to American's dislike for reading subtitles.
