I believe John Edwards is far and above the others in the ability to be president and act presidential. He has the experience, intelligence and leadership abilities this country needs in a president. Hilary and Obama may be well qualified also, but when running against the Right Wing Machine, and it's media influence and campaign strategies, I believe either one will loose. I fear the possibility of another 4 years or more of the radical Right and its corporate welfare, religious agenda and disregard for constitutional law. We need an electable candidate to run against the abuses of the past 8 years.

I don't profess to be an expert in this area but I have spoken to someone high up in one of the GOP campaigns and was told that they feel quite comfortable winning a race against Hillary or Obama but in the event Edwards comes from behind and gets the nomination they have serious concerns about beating Edwards. I like both Edwards and Obama but I personally feel that Edwards is the better choice.

Angela, you amaze me. Being from Indiana, you should clearly understand what it takes to win a Red State. Anger at Bush or Iraq will not give Hillary or Obama a single state. Just as one example: Edwards can win Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana. Neither of the other top-tier candidates will even try to compete there.

I believe the writer is correct to queston Obama's electability. This is the time of year when us Democrats think we understand the underlying reasons that people vote for candidates (in Red States), and we don't as evidenced by 7 losses out of 10 and embarrassing candidates such as Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry and Gore, not to mention the almosts like Tsongas, Simon and the like.

Here's a hint, Miss Angela: people aren't going to vote against a Republican because of Bush and Iraq. If you think otherwise, you probably don't get out of the big city (or blue state) much.

By the way, the article is great coverage but really mischaracterizes Edwards performance vs. Cheney. I recall him coming out with a slew of embarrasing votes that Cheney made, including being one of like 6 people to vote against the MLK holiday. It was funny listening to Lynn Cheney and her feigned anger about Edwards bring up her daughter. I remember thinking: these two people must be the only ones in the entire country who are for gay rights and against the MLK holiday!

OHAMA? Is he a new addition to the democratic race. I will be voting for Obama. Republicans want you to believe we as a country are not ready for Obama an African-American............but shhhhhhhhhh, close your eyes and listen and you will SEE clearly that Obama is the best choice. Republicans as a whole realize they cannot defeat Obama therefore your insecurities are working in the republicans favor. Your spelling resembles our current leader. Are you REPUBLICAN? Obama, Clinton, Edwards: Looks to me like we can't go wrong in who we choose...........Ciao' Angela in Indy

REPUBLICANS ARE HOPEING OHAMA WINS IF YIU WANT A REPUBLICAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS VOTE FOR OBAMA, i THINK EDWARDS IS THE BETTER CHOICE TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Senator Obama serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees our nation???s health care, schools, employment, and retirement programs. He is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which plays a vital role in shaping American policy around the world, including our policy in Iraq.
-Senator Obama serves on the Veterans??? Affairs Committee, which is focused on providing our brave veterans with the care and services they deserve. In 2005 and 2006, he served on the Environment and Public Works Committee, which safeguards our environment and provides funding for our highways.

BARAK OBAMA needs to welcome the "EXPERIENCE" question. He needs to explain why he would consistently make the correct decisions as President. One question that people are anxious to know about is how will he handle those who try to undermine his Presidency. He needs to sight examples where his judgements were just as sound as Hillary's. He should not get defensive about the experience question because it is a legitimate concern. He needs endorsements of people he's work with in the past. People need to hear testimonies. If he is unable to bring all factions together how will he deal with it as President. He should mention that he learned from the Clinton's and studied them closely. He's learned from their successes and their mistakes and he has incorporated their experiences with his own. That the Clinton's experiences have only added to his life-long experiences. The true test is when things go wrong. Will Obama be able to keep things together. Hillary has proven that when things go wrong she can handle it.

It's three in the morning, but I felt I needed to put my two cents in. I couldn't believe the insipid comments of this writer, but nevermind, Edwards' passion for this country came shining through despite the trite bent of the article. In my opinion, a vote for Senator John Edwards is a vote towards getting America back on track as a respected Global leader and a country we all can be proud of again.

I like John Edwards because of his first hand knowledge in struggling to become a success. I like John Edwards because of his humble beginnings. I like John dwards because he was honest enough and manly enough to admit that he made a mistake in voting for the ill-advised invasion of Iraq. I would find John Edwards to be the perfect [residential candidate and, with success, the perfect president were he to take a strong stand against the continuing occupation of Iraq and the illegal entry into our country by foreign elements.

Edwards is Jimmy Carter on Steroids. I don't fully understand how he can vacuum the bank accounts of Doctors, hospitals and health care providers for his own personal gain and claim to have solutions to health care in the U.S. He lives in a very lavish, ostentatious home and yet "speaks for the poor"like he's Nelson Mandela. He wants to heavily tax people people beginning at the $200K yearly income figure and has no clue what it is like to try to maintain a stable middle class life on that (currently) diminishing amount in major cities in the U.S. NY, CA, or Washington, DC. He may have been the anchor that contributed to Kerry's failure to win the last election because Edward's personal lifestyle does not mirror what he preaches on the stump. His avarice leaves one with the impression that he has obtained what he wants in life, he's just not going to allow anyone else to do the same with his aggressive tax proposals.

Well, I like Edwards. I like him because he has first hand knowledge of what it means to start out with very little and strive to become successful. I like him for his self reliance. That when faced with a problem, he meets it head on. like Edwards because he is man enough to admit that he made a mistake in his voting to engage our military in Iraq. I really wish he would take a stronger stand as regards to ending the Iraqi occupation and a strong stand in opposition to illegal immigration. Were he to do those two things, then we'd have the perfect presidential candidate.

An overwhelming exception is a logical fallacy similar to a hasty generalization. What does all this family stuff mean. Well, for starters we as the general public have been fooled. We argue over religion, abortion and gay marriage. We do not recognize our potential. We are trained to act to act in a certain way.For example, If tomorrow everyone in AMerica decided not purchase anything; the mainstream will have you believe it is the end of the world. The economy has collapsed, consumer confidence no longer exist. But who does the mainstream represent? What harm can one day of saving do. Nothing to the average person; so why would there be such a panic. Beause these families would actually go one day without making money. God forbid; we could never have that. So they scare us. These families have their own agenda and part of that agenda is to keep us stupid and train us to spend like wild animals. WE are suppose to feed their greed; we have no say; why? beause we do not have a lobbying group in D.C. "DO NOT ASK WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY. We can change this; we can educate ourselves and mobilize. We need to send the establishment a message "YOu have brainwashed us; through fear, religion and divisive issues. We do not believe you represent Jesus or any hire power. You are a product of your fraternity AND YOUR FRATERNITY LEAVES TO MANY AMERICANS OUT." Good Luck to the next President of the UNITED States Of America.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Russell%2C_Jr.

Richard Russell, Jr.-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Russell%2C_Jr- prominent supporter of a strong national defense, Russell became in the 1950s the most knowledgeable and powerful congressional leader in this area. He used his powers as chairman of the Armed Services Committee from 1951 to 1969 and then as chairman of the Appropriations Committee as an institutional base to add defense installations and jobs for Georgia. He was dubious about the Vietnam War, privately warning President Johnson repeatedly against deeper involvement.

A statue of Russell is placed in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building. While a prime mentor of Johnson, Russell and the then president Johnson eventually disagreed over civil rights. Russell, as the South's leader in the Senate, had repeatedly blocked and defeated civil rights legislation and had co-authored the Southern Manifesto in opposition to civil rights. He had not supported the States Rights party of J. Strom Thurmond in 1948, but he opposed civil rights laws as unconstitutional and unwise. (Unlike Theodore Bilbo, "Cotton Ed" Smith and James O Eastland, who had reputations as ruthless, tough-talking, heavy-handed race baiters, he never justified hatred or acts of violence to defend segregation. But he strongly defended white supremacy and apparently did not question it, nor ever apologize for his white supremacist views, votes and speeches.) Russell was key, for decades, in blocking meaningful civil rights legislation that might have protected African-Americans from lynching, disenfranchisement and disparate treatment under the law.
There is a rumour that Russel and his "network" knew of the assassination of JFK before it happened. That does not mean they were necessarily behind it , but they new of the forces behind it. "They Hated Kennedy". We now know that the Warren Commission was faulted; damaged; beause only one Perspective was ever considered. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Russell%2C_Jr. To have a statue of this man outside the Senate Office building proves that racism in this country is institutionalized on both sides of the political spectrum. The Clintons, Obama, and Edwards are all self-made successes and glamorous enough for the media to want to cover as examples of the American Dream. But the Clintons have turned into the Clinton Dynasty, and besides, Bill gave away the media to a handful of corporations so that now, guess what, the media can get away with giving Edwards hardly any coverage. The U.S. would be more of a democracy if presidents have their day, presumably doing their best during their terms (did Bill do that?) and then step aside like George Washington instead of turning into a dynasty. Let other candidates run for the presidency on their merits rather than on dynasty money and contacts. Obama and Edwards are both impressive, but I find that I trust Edwards to be more successful in handling the difficult four or eight years ahead.

The Russel Trust is a secret society. This subjects them to many Conspiracy Theories. Since our President and many others in government are assoiated with this organization it would be wrong for me to read into things that cannot be proven. I just want to show who owns the world's capital(VERY FEW) and how they influence every government in the world directly or indirectly. We are becoming a GLOBAL COMMUNITY; and eventually there will BE ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. George Sorros manages the Queens investments. These powerful families FUND CLUBS LIKE THE PARIS CLUB; THIS ORGANIZATION ALONG WITH OTHERS FUND THE IMF AND WB. We need to support a policy of Peace and Prosperity For ALL. Many people from these families have made tremendous contributions to American Society. Bloodlines are very important in American Society because they determine what fraternity you belong too. I see nothing wrong with that. My purpose is to eduate the electorate. The more the "voter knows"; the more honest, and less scripted politicians will be. And then maybe we will realize that leaving people behing does not work; WE need a President who won't forget about us. A President that can convince these powers to use their wealth and ownership for the better good of ALL and not just for their own narrow interests.

nbrhi60624:You will see after visiting the links below and a little research that these families dominate both political parties.Remember, that George Bush is a Russel Trust member. Research the
Astor, Bundy, Collins, DuPont , Freeman, Kennedy Li Onassis Reynolds Rockefeller Rothschild
    Russell, Van Duyn families.

TYPE IN ALL THE FAMILY NAMES AND YOU WILL SEE THE CONNECTION. A FEW FRATERNITIES CONTROL BOTH PARTIES CAPITAL.
    William Putnam "Bill" Bundy
Raised in Boston, Massachusetts he came from a family long involved in politics. His father, Harvey Hollister Bundy, was a diplomat who helped implement the Marshall Plan. Bill was raised in a highly accomplished, highly intellectual family. After attending the Groton School and Yale University (where he was one of the first presidents of the Yale Political Union), he entered Harvard Law School but left to join the Army Signal Corps during World War II. During this time he worked at Bletchley Park in Britain as part of the top secret ULTRA operation to break Nazi codes.
During the 1950s he worked as an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. During the Kennedy years he worked for the Secretary of the Navy and during much of the LBJ era was an Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific affairs. After resigning from the executive branch in 1969 he taught at MIT and then edited the influential journal of the Council on Foreign Relations (of which he was a member), Foreign Affairs, from 1972 to 1984, after declining the offer of the Council's chairman, David Rockefeller, to be the Council's president.
His brother, McGeorge Bundy, was also an integral part of the both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. Bill was married to Mary Acheson, the daughter of Truman's Secretary of State Dean Acheson. Bill and Mary had three children, Michael, Christopher, and Carol.
Bill was somewhat to the left of his brother politically, and was a spirited opponent of Joseph McCarthy. He was also considered one of the administration's more dovish members on Vietnam.

    Thirteen Reasons to Dismiss Edwards
1.Clinton and Obama have decades of public service (in politics and otherwise), Edwards does not.
    2. While Edwards was working to make himself rich, OTHER North Carolinians were fighting the special interests, the big corporations, helping to get healthcare for low-income kids, fighting predatory lending, etc etc etc. Edwards did not have a hand in those fights or any other (to include unions of which NC has few). He has no record of marshalling any cause from idea to completion.
    3. He likes to point out that he started two programs for low-income kids. Both are small programs, affecting a very small percentage of kids. One of them is online begging for basic supplies like pens and papers and snacks for the kids.
    4. He has made all his money off corporations. (No big corporations, no big paychecks for lawyers like Edwards.)
    5. Edwards has only held one seat (not even PTA), an easy win against a curmudgeon Forbes dubbed "senator for sale."
6.Then Edwards abandoned his constituents and responsibilities to his state halfway through that term to campaign for himself. He left that seat up for grabs, and it was taken by a Republican, to the great irritation of the state Democratic party.
    7. He could not carry his own state in the last election--nor would we vote for him now
    8. He has no record of accomplishment in politics. NONE.
    9. Studies show most low-income and lower-middle class folks give a greater percentage of their income to charity than higher income folks. The theory is that they do so because they know what it's like to live so close to the edge. Therefore, the percentage of Edwards income that he gives to charity would be like the low-income people he alleges to identify with--and his campaign would be quick to say that. They haven't, proving in my mind that he's a hypocrite.
    10. He says he's against the big-monied special interests yet as far as I know he's never been a member of the many groups that have worked for decades against that sort of thing.
    11. Unlike most of the progressive lawyers in NC, Edwards has never contributed substantially--in bro bono time or money--to the agency that provides civil legal services to poor people. In fact, he contributes less that most lawyers.
    12. Why didn't he build a "modest" 1.5 million house instead of 6.5 million, and give that $5 million to charity? There are some charities in NC that could subsist on that amount for 83 years.
    13. Fighting corporations in a trial is completely different from fighting their influence in DC or in Raleigh. There are groups that have been owrking on this for years--Edwards has not been part of the effort.
