JOHN EDWARDS IS THE ONLY REAL CHOICE WE HAVE. JIM

Edwards "remained deferential" and "missed obvious opportunities to strike back." Are you kidding me? His first line of the night was: "Mr. Vice President, you are still not being straight with the American people. I mean, the reality you and George Bush continue to tell people, first, that things are going well in Iraq -- the American people don't need us to explain this to them, they see it on their television every single day. We lost more troops in September than we lost in August; lost more in August than we lost in July; lost more in July than we lost in June." (http://www.debates.org/pages/trans2004b.html)

How more aggressive can you be? This is a great article, but that one paragraph is very inaccurate.

Edwards is a true democrat. However, he will take many votes away from Hillary. Obama will win Iowa with less than 50 %. Perhaps by a 42%-OBAMA 22%Edwards 21%-Clinton and the other 15%-distribted among other candidates. EDWARDS WILL ALSO HELP OBAMA IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, and SOUTH CAROLINA. Edwards represents a faction of the democratic party that feel Obama and CLinton are not "going far enough", the War ect.. I am impressed with Eward's effort.

Edwards is the only real Democrat here...He is unafraid to criticize the corruption in his own party and say "We can't substitute corporate Democrats for corporate Republicans."

Edwards is the most electable of all the Democrats and has led in the overwhelming majority of head-to-head match-ups against all the Republicans. He just came out on top of a CNN poll that showed he was the only Democrat to beat all the Republicans.

He can carry not only the Democratic urban areas, but also the rural areas and the South. He is our only hope of recapturing the White House.

We have to get it right this time....Vote Edwards!

John Edwards represents the best of what this country has to offer--an honest man with humble beginnings who has the best plans for working class and poor Americans. He has fought corporate abuse his whole life and has won...He is calling on both parties to end the corruption in Washington, and is the only one to have never received a dime of WA lobbyist money. He will be our friend in the White House.

There does not seem to be much negative the writers could say about Edwards. I for one would like to finally have a president who comes from the working classs, like I do, had to work to pay for college, like I did, and had to work hard for what he has achieved, like most Americans. I am tired of "Golden" or "Entitled" people thinking they should run this country, and apalled that for too long, the majority of the electorate has agreed.

Until we reclaim our paper ballots and precinct polling places, and assure that every voter who comes to the polling place is ALLOWED to vote, it won't be clear to just WHAT "the majority of the electorate" agrees.

Seems like the writers could not find much to do a hatchet job on. I for one would like to have a president who comes for the working class, like I do, had to work to put himself through college, like I did, and has worked hard for what he has achieved, like most Americans, evey day of the week.

    A posting error prevented including

"He was convinced that a retooled version of the rich-versus-poor "two Americas" theme he adopted in 2004 would find an even larger audience now."

in the second part of my previous comment.

    Again:
Just do THIS, dear reader: vote for John Edwards in the primary. If he is denied the nomination, WRITE IN John Edwards in the general election.

These know-it-all corporate clowns in the opinion-manufacturing biz -- and their co-conspirators in the right-wing Democratic "Leadership" hahaha Council -- prevented the nomination of Dr. Howard Dean, who should be president right this minute (in which case we WOULD have national health, and WOULDN'T have the world-wide military crusade against most of the rest of the world, or the hijacked Constitution and wrecked economy that go with it.

Don't let 'em do it again.//

Comment: Just do THIS, dear reader: vote for John Edwards in the primary. If he is denied the nomination, WRITE IN John Edwards in the general election.

This article is NOT the greatest:

"Tall and good-looking???and he knew it???John Edwards was a popular student and a star football player, skinny but fast. "
    -----
Did this sentence come from boring Clintonoid Jonathan Alter, whose writing about John Edwards -- and about Elizabeth Edwards -- is always so snotty?
Can we just accept the plain fact that good-looking people know they're good-looking -- and that, as here, there's always someone around to remark on it ?
(And may we wonder whether playing college football is an experience unknown to all six of the bylined players on these pages?)

"When he was 11, he penned an essay titled 'Why I Want to Be a Lawyer,' in which he wrote, 'I would like to protect innocent people.' "

"His first campaign touched on many of the common-man themes he uses today."
    -----
Gosh, Edwards' beliefs and actions seem to have been CONSISTENT throughout his life. Isn't it kind of smarmy to write that he "uses" common-man "themes"?

"[John Edwards] calls his vote for the Iraq War a mistake . . . "
    -----
Easy to say now (except for Clinton, the shifty spousal-substitute) -- thanks to Edwards' having taken the lead -- but it might have been worth the ink to note that Edwards was the FIRST member of Congress to admit his vote was a mistake.

"There was still racial tension in Robbins in the early 1970s, and black students were sometimes mistreated. In protest, several of them once held a sit-in. Edwards persuaded his white friends to join in. "Johnny got a lot of the athletes, myself, our girlfriends ??? he was instrumental in encouraging us," Mashburn says. John Frye, another high-school friend, says it was a gutsy thing to do. He "stuck his neck out," Frye recalls.
    -----
There was "still" racial tension in the "early 1970s" in Edwards' southern (hence presumably-backward, the writers don't quite say) home town? Don't look now, but there's plenty of "racial tension" now, 35 years later, all OVER this country. And nearly NOBODY's standing up to it: Hillobama, for example, pretend it doesn't exist.

"[John Edwards] still couldn't afford the tuition, so he worked nights at UPS for about $8 an hour unloading boxes from 18-wheelers."
    -----
One wonders whether any of Newsweek's writers, or any of the other presidential candidates -- most of whom are all-too-ready to fault Edwards for having made a LOT of money, doing good -- have done anything similar.//

Anyone who cares about the future of our country better pray that John Edwards wins Iowa. He is far and away the strongest candidate the Democrats can put up: for once, not a child of privilege but a self-made man who's weathered tragedies just like millions of Americans have. Hillary and Obama are both irritatingly privileged (and unprincipled) and either would lose a national election...and God knows what kind of government we will have then.

2008 PREDICTION: Edwards wins Iowa, Clinton comes second, then Obama. The best scenerio for Hillary. Edwards will crush under the Clinton unslaught in New Hampshire and tereafter. Obama fades away because in reality democrats will not vote for a Black Candidate. It will not happen. But as usual democrats who are acustomed to trading away their chances for electability will loose in the general election. Hillary will be the nominee but she will loose in the general election. She will also drag down others in swing and clse races. When the liberals and democrats ask why their leaders don't seem to have a backbone, they should first look in the mirror their leaders mirrors the weakness in the base. Their base is so fragmented, idealistic, unreasonable, activist and a bunch clay footed ideologues. Bottom line: Edwards and Obama are fishing in the same waters. Bulck of blacks who are split on Clinton and Obama will easily move to her column after Iowa making Edwards nothing but an accomplice to the Clintons. That is why they are soft on him in Iowa. He will win Iowa, that it. Obama will wake up to reality of the white liberals. To them, blacks are just political accessories. It will shock him!

Obama is selling snake oil by claiming HE can "bring us all together" and change Washington.
But the problem isn't red vs blue - but the great disparity between the haves and the have nots.
Corporate lobbyists have driven Obama's political career until 2007 when he based his campaign on "changing Washington." He could have begun "changing Washington" when he entered the Senate - but he continued taking bribes from corporate lobbyists - and supporting NAFTA legislation.
Obama may rock the vote - but he wouldn't rock the boat!

    Go Edwards!

Without wasting my precious time, or, for that matter, your precious time, I'm going to be brief. I don't like words or names that have 5 letters, such as OSAMA, OBAMA, OPRAH, or OMAHA....I'm a creature of habit and an old man who is also an excellent Handicapper. NO, I don't wager above my head - I just look for a sure thing....then, make a modest investment. I don't want my President controlled by a 4 PM TV Personality, and I also don't want to hear media anchors mistake Osama for Obama....I DON'T LIKE HIS NAME. PERIOD as well as other names I've mentioned. "OKAY Freindo, CALL IT" - that's what this election will come down to - A COIN FLIP - and that is not going to help me and others who are needy, and desirous of change, for the better in this nation.

In a horse race, there is the Rabbit (early speed), the Stalker (keeps pace, just off cna can close), and the Closer (runs far back, then makes a run whippingi and drivingi to get up and win at the wire).

John Edwards was dubbed my "STALKER" long before NEWSWEEK dubbed him the "SLEEPER."

My retirement funds (including the whopping 2.3% cost of living increase for 2008) is on John Edwards.

Thank you for this opportunity to comment.

Recently free ride for Obama from political press corps, and it feels besieged as it has to bat away incessant questions with Obama's significant shifts, flip flopping on issues such as Patriot Act, Defense of Marriage Act, Fast Track trade authority and benefits for same-sex couples. Given how little experience Obama has, its understandable that his campaign doesnt want any kind of focus on his record, These stories clearly raise questions about Obamas electability and serve as a stark reminder about how little the public knows about his positions. The Illinois chapter of the National Organization for Women, Obama said he would vote to repeal the Patriot Act. In 2006 Obama voted for the redrafted version of the Patriot Act that some critics contended made only minor changes to the original law. On Defense of Marriage Act Obama answered No,to the question: "Do you support repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. On Fast Track authority, which requires Congress to vote yes or no and without amendments on pending trade deals, Obama opposes Fast Track authority because it is a usurpation of Congress' role to ensure that negotiated trade agreements serve the best interests of our country, including protection of the environment, worker rights and human rights. In remarks to the Detroit Economic Club in May, Obama said, I plan to be president, so I actually want Fast Track. But I'm willing to constrain myself in Fast Track to make sure that we???ve got strong labor and environmental protections. On benefits for same-sex couples, Obama said, he would need to evaluate the fiscal impact of extending Social Security benefits to same-sex couples that married couples currently receive. Also Barack Obama (D-IL)involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin Tony Rezko. Obama also linked to an alleged influence peddling scandal and was nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law.

Do you know that 80% of the world's capital is owned by 12 families. They already run the world through organizations like the Paris Club; who inturn fund the IMF and World Bank. Look at the power oil companies have on the world. You are confusing conspiracy with reality. But thank you for your commentary EUB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taft_family-If you go to this website or url, you will notice the development of the Taft family one of the most poweful families in America. Along with a few other families, they were able to establish a number of fraternities which contorl both parties political machinery.

TYPE IN ALL THE FAMILY NAMES AND YOU WILL SEE THE CONNECTION. A FEW FRATERNITIES CONTROL BOTH PARTIES CAPITAL.
      William Putnam "Bill" Bundy
Raised in Boston, Massachusetts he came from a family long involved in politics. His father, Harvey Hollister Bundy, was a diplomat who helped implement the Marshall Plan. Bill was raised in a highly accomplished, highly intellectual family. After attending the Groton School and Yale University (where he was one of the first presidents of the Yale Political Union), he entered Harvard Law School but left to join the Army Signal Corps during World War II. During this time he worked at Bletchley Park in Britain as part of the top secret ULTRA operation to break Nazi codes.
During the 1950s he worked as an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. During the Kennedy years he worked for the Secretary of the Navy and during much of the LBJ era was an Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific affairs. After resigning from the executive branch in 1969 he taught at MIT and then edited the influential journal of the Council on Foreign Relations (of which he was a member), Foreign Affairs, from 1972 to 1984, after declining the offer of the Council's chairman, David Rockefeller, to be the Council's president.
His brother, McGeorge Bundy, was also an integral part of the both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. Bill was married to Mary Acheson, the daughter of Truman's Secretary of State Dean Acheson. Bill and Mary had three children, Michael, Christopher, and Carol.
Bill was somewhat to the left of his brother politically, and was a spirited opponent of Joseph McCarthy. He was also considered one of the administration's more dovish members on Vietnam.
He left politics in 1969 to teach at MIT. In 1972 he moved to Princeton University where he remained for the rest of his life. His most noted work is Tangled Web which explores the foreign policy of the Nixon administration.
William Bundy's papers are held by the Seeley G. Mudd Library at Princeton University, where he was a professor until his death at age 83.

oh yeah . . . he also solidified his support by making sure that he visited every County in the State and promised - and kept it - to return for Town Hall meetings.

I have to say that this is a tough election because every Democratic candidate looks good enough to vote for in the general election.
