The Social Security cards that illegals are currently using if linked to American citizens then in the future the card could become null and void and all monies paid into SS will no longer be obtainable by either persons using the number.

The dollars or tax money now becomes the property of the federal government and is lost, I guess that is also why the big push for amnesty of illegals by big business and the federal politicians.

I'd like to know what any state or state Party leader is doing to PREVENT illegals from VOTING. I too think the southwest could tilt the general election adn everyone with half a brain cell knows that illegals DO vote (despite tax clerk protestations to the contrary). Can anyone PROVE they don't? People in states with lots of them KNOW they DO (and to challenge their vote individually, you must have some kind of proof as to why they should not be allowed to cast their vote. Try saying "because I think they're illegal" and see how far that gets you). First there was multiple voting, then dead people voting, then legitimate eligible voters being prevented from voting, not to mention fraud from voting machines, now we have illegals voting! Welcome to the New America!

George Bush???s argument that we need the immigrants to do work that mainstream Americans won???t has a very important point in our national security, and maintaining soldiers in our military. The recent wars (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) have increased the likelihood of a soldier going to war. Economics 101, and common sense, informs us that those entering the military service will demand higher wages to offset the increase risk of dying or being injured. Not only wages, but other costs such as health insurance, post-war care, retirement, etc. In other words, with the current military pay and benefits, we will not have sufficient number of soldiers to fight our wars.

To alleviate the short-fall of military soldiers, we could pay more to our soldiers. However, that means increased federal spending (and deficit). It would also mean pulling human resources from our private sector to the military. Its just not economically efficient.

If the United States is not able to supply its military (or its not cost effective to do so) with people within the United States, we must rely more on friendly foreign governments supply the manpower. That means building up armies in Pakistan, Iraq, Japan, Korea, China, whomever we believe is our friends today. It???s very similar to outsourcing our military to attain lower labor costs. But outsourcing national security is a dangerous thing.

Arguably, having a larger immigrant pool, which will likely be in the lower economic class, will alleviate the shortfall in our military soldiers and provide a strong military within the United States.

I can tell you are an ignorant republican dbuni14. If you bother to do any research at all you will find out it is nearly impossible to get in the country legally if you are poverty stricken. It costs a minimum of about $10,000 total to apply for the various levels of legality (marriage visa, work permit, green card, U.S. citizenship) and a mire of paperwork and redtape. If the governement could manage anything efficiently, then illegal immigration wouldn't be the problem it is today.

It's hard not impossible. I agree the system needs to be changed, but in no way should it benefit those who come here ILLEGALLY!

  • Posted By: WARLOCK @ 12/26/2007 6:35:22 AM

I agree with tougher immigration laws but our politians are dragging their feet on the real issues of this problem. I totally agree with deporting ALL illegal aliens, but we need to step up the process for those who are tring to become citizens legally.Illegal aliens are hurting the LEGAL immigrants who are tring to enter the U.S LEGALLY.The process to grant them or deny them U.S citizenship takes to long and only inspires those to come to the U.S ILLEGALLY. Then to all ILLEGALS deny them the right to drive, work, go to school, social programs, and medical care. Why? Cause they are here ILLEGALLY. The U.S immigration system needs to be a more speedier program by not leaving families or individuals in limbo for years not knowing whats going on with their requests while they work,go to school, and bring up their families in our great nation. To all the ILLEGAL immigrants who do STEAL from our system we should send the bill to their home countries and have them pay for ILLEGAL immigrant after we deport them back to the countries they came from. How do we do that you may ask? One way is by taking them from assets that they may have in our country. That's just one way we could do it. Deport ALL ILLEGALS and make the process speedier for those who want to come here LEGALLY.

Why are we making this about religion??? This is about individuals that are unwilling to do anything legally coming into our country taking our jobs, money and resources!!!! Granted some of us Americans are unwilling to do the work that illegals do, but the illegals can also make the effort of becoming legal to do these scum jobs. I'm tired of hearing illegals crying that they have rights, bull!!!!!!!!!!! If they had come to the country legally they would but illegally you don't have any rights here!!!!!! Go back to your country until you are willing to come here legally!!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: Tommypie @ 12/16/2007 10:15:00 PM

I came to this country legally. I had to wait two years for my immigration visa. I had to have a sponsor and a job, too. I was never a burden to this society, but paid all my taxes on time and never needed government healthcare or welfare, since I worked hard, often at low paying jobs, until I went to college (worked my way through and borrowed the rest),and was able to obtain better paying jobs. I had to come here legally and therefore I feel I am able to condemn the actions of those sneaking across the border in the dark of night to mooch of this society. Many work, but they should not, but instead be incarcerated until deported to their countries of origin. That's what would have happened to me, had I come here illegally. Get rid of the illegals, particularly in California, or they will soon take over here!

    • Posted By: dbuni14 @ 12/24/2007 2:21:54 PM

I agree!!!! If you can do it legally than don't do it at all!!!!

You are a prime example of the people we need in the US, honest people.

    • Posted By: mrkwildcat @ 12/17/2007 6:13:09 PM

You Sir, are a prime example of this countries foundation! I will try to speak for all of the American public that supports immigration when I say 'Thank you for doing what is required' Thank you for your honesty, hard work and above all else, your integrity. May we see many more of your like coming to our country.

It does this man and all those that are like him a grave injustice to keep allowing Corporations and all other employers the ability to hire illegal immigrants. Not only should they be fined a considerable amount of money,(an amount that actually effects their bottom line) they should also face mandatory prison time for their violations.

Why is Guilliani skipping Iowa and New Hampshire? Because he is a divider. He does not represent everyone. Guilliani would be one of the most divisive Presidents this country has ever seen. Please take off your dress and stop scaring people. Do you think Guilliani cares about you or does he care about his own self -interest. Guilliani is an Opportunist. Shame on those who question McCain's Health. Guilliani had to drop out of the New York Senate race because of health reasons.

My Christmas wish is for those who speak so adamently against immigration to accept the idea that their stance on the issue is less about economic burdens/national security and more so about xenophobia. In the minds of these people, the term 'immigrant,' nearly means Mexican. If there is a distinction than I wonder if they have given any thoughts concerning Canadians crossing the borders or other ethnic groups? The more I hear the term "immigration," in regards to the US, the more I think it is being used synonymously with Mexicans.

It is not in the best interest of this nation to continue to tolerate the millions of illegals that have deliberately flaunted our borders and our laws to enter this country. Our economy is particularly at risk when so many of them send millons of dollars back to assist the economy of their nation rather than allowing these funds to "multiply" as they roll from one to another within our nation. The very basic Multiplier Effect taught in Economics 101 is conveniently ignored. The arguement that without them our fruit will rot, our vegetables go unpicked, etc is the very same arguement used to justify slavery prior to the Civil War. It did not pass the common sense test then and it does not pass it now. If the figure touted is 12 million illegals here one can assume that the true number is closer to double that number. The problem is not overwhelming; round them up, put them on a train and send them north, south, east and west until they are gone. It is a simple matter of logistics and the logistics is not, as discussed in nearly every pro-immigrant discussion I read, impossible or prohibitively expensive. What will become expensive is to continue to ignore the only real solution.

As a Democrat, this is the one issue I believe Democrats need to wake up on. I'm as tolerant as anyone on the importance of being fair to all immigrants from all countries of the world, in believing they all deserve an equal chance to become "American." But that's the problem -- this issue now must treat a very unfair, biased lack of balance in favor of those who cross our open southern border illegally. The illegal spokespersons/lobby want a special status given to Hispanics who are trying to escape their corrupt government and impoverished country. Their goal is to allow anyone who can get here to become American citizens, without limits on numbers or individual value to our country.

Why would any Democrat want our borders to remain so open, so unsecured, and our control of immigration be so unfair to our own citizens already struggling to succeed: Meaning, the millions of unemployed, the hundreds of thousands getting minimum wage, the millions of young minority unemployed who can't find work right now? The reason Democrats should watch out on this issue is because millions of citizens feel betrayed when our own elected representatives do not represent our best interests. Why would we want to accept millions more unemployed, uneducated immigrants now when we have so many of our own citizens unemployed and uneducated?

My Democrats have a long way to go -- and the Republicans can win the election with this, because it is a legitimate threat to our social infrastructure, schools, hospitals, employment, language -- and, of course, it makes our borders meaningless lines on a map.

And I'm a lifelong Democrat, with Hispanics in my own extended family -- who agree with me.

The US will eventually face the same predicament as what the French is having now, with riots amongst the immigrants when ultimately jobs becomes scares. So it is only prudent that the illegal immigrant issues be resolved now rather than later, which can be catastrophic.

Ask yourself whether the discussion is one of 'personal values' - who can come down hardest on someone different and an 'outsider'? Or about 'public ethics' - what processes and institutions would be a fair and unbiased resolution to this problem for everyone involved, for a sustainable solution? If it's just 'values' then watch out - it can quickly become a witch hunt and the biggest bullies always win that kind of decision. If you want good government and a sustainable democracy, vote for those willing to discuss more complex but clearly more ethical solutions than just coming down hard on somebody who is already down.

If we get the immigrants on a path to citizenship then they could well become tomorrow's Democratic voters. Sure, the Republicans will try to appeal with divisive rhetoric, appeals to economic selfishess (you can't get ahead because everyone is trying to freeload off of you) and the family-values bit, or by cynically trying to play one minority group off against another. But I think issues like the minimum wage will be too strong. We live in an economy that is sluggish for the vast majority of Americans, and studies on upward mobility are showing no better chance in the U.S. than in European countries. The system needs fixing, just like it needed it during the robber-baron era. If we get another disaster like Bush 43 at least it might mean that places like Canada and Europe that have the strong currencies and economies get more of the immigration pressure.

I'm not afraid of an immigrant. Bring them on, I'll compete and I'll win.

It's the yahoo who stays home and will work for $100 an month that I fear

BARAK OBAMA needs to welcome the "EXPERIENCE" question. He needs to explain why he would consistently make the correct decisions as President. One question that people are anxious to know about is how will he handle those who try to undermine his Presidency. He needs to sight examples where his judgements were just as sound as Hillary's. He should not get defensive about the experience question because it is a legitimate concern. He needs endorsements of people he's work with in the past. People need to hear testimonies. If he is unable to bring all factions together how will he deal with it as President. He should mention that he learned from the Clinton's and studied them closely. He's learned from their successes and their mistakes and he has incorporated their experiences with his own. That the Clinton's experiences have only added to his life-long experiences. The true test is when things go wrong. Will Obama be able to keep things together. Hillary has proven that when things go wrong she can handle it.

    • Posted By: mrkwildcat @ 12/17/2007 6:03:05 PM

She's also proven that she can stage questions from members in the audiance, change positions at the drop of a hat, refuse to answer questions, and finally, above all else, she favors illegal immigrants and amnesty. Hillary has proven when things go wrong, she blames someone else!

Let us clarify what so many of you 'good' christians are lacking when it comes to Webster's dictionary and the word origins therein:
Cult= a group of people who share religious or spiritual beliefs,an extreme or excessive admiration for a person, philosophy of life, or activity.
Now tell me, does this not sound like those fanatics out there preaching doom and gloom for your immortal sins. HA! Truth hurts doesn't it?
Facts are facts, ALL religion is considered a 'cult' It does not matter if you believe in the christian faith of scare and conquer, or the Muslim faith of convert or destroy, or the Mormon belief of con and control, they are all cults by their true nature.
I for one will stick to treating others as respectful as they treat me. To lead my own life, and not transfix my beliefs into such histarical nonsence as one would find in any of the prevalant religions one is berated and threatened by.
I for one will honor the true meaning of life in the United States of America: The Constitution! And forget the mind controling, society supressive 'Christians' that are akin to the 'Devil' himself(By ones own defenition)
    How about you?

America has always been a country that welcomes immigrants. The biggest part of the illegal immigration problem could be solved if there was no guarantee of citizenship for babies born in the US. If the parents are citizens, then yes, the children are automatically citizens, otherwise, no.

Oh, and FYI to 'capitalpoliticing.com', you need to study up pal. Buddhism has never had anything to do with Islam.

The majority of INTELLIGENT Americans do not want a "Christian" in office. In my experience, these supposed "Christians" are a bunch of hypocritical thieves, liars and bigots. They rewrite the Bible to suit their purposes (as has been the history of the Bible throughout time), and frankly, they are disgusting. I would much rather have an honest atheist in office.

America has always welcomed immigrants to our country. I do not think that illegals should have any special privileges, or get social services, but this could all be fixed by removing the automatic citizenship for babies born in the US. If their parents are citizens, then it should be automatic, otherwise, no. A lot fewer people would come here if citizenship was not automatic.
Oh, and to callenby who thinks that Buddhism has roots in Islam - you need to study up pal - that isn't even close to the truth.
