A Son’s Past Deeds Come Back To Bite Huckabee

And when Larry King asked Mike Huckabee about this incident tonight? A glib and exceedingly cold, quick talking explaination that the dog had "mange" or something and was "put down." (Couldn't a kind and intelligent scout counselor call a vet or animal control for the dog?) Mr. Huckabee didn't discuss any details and certainly exhibited no compassion. Just fast talking nothingness of a human being who thinks the voters in this country are as stupid and non-caring as he is. As for his son, a young man (back then) who is seventeen years old is not a child and he was fully aware that he was causing that poor dog unbearable pain and suffering. His behavior should have raised a serious warning flag into the governor's mind since torture and killing of animals is frequently noted as behavior of violent criminals and/or serial killers. Just that this young man would do this to that dog is extremely disturbing and the fact that Mr. Huckabee, as governor of Arkansas, handled the incident by pressuring others to cover everything up, is proof that he is not fit to be the president of the United States. He is an uncaring human being who is hoping that the voters of this country are completely unable to see that a man who abused his political office that way will do so again and again and again. Is this the man this country deserves as president? I do NOT believe so.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, a staunchly conservative newspaper, opined again and again in favor of the measure, but it was not enough to counter the misinformation. And Governor Huckabee stood on the sidelines the entire time???a glaring failure of leadership to be sure and perhaps a marker of his own hostile views about animals.

Arkansas is now one of only seven states that consider deliberate, malicious acts of cruelty to animals a misdemeanor offense. Setting fire to a painting of a dog is a more serious crime in Arkansas than burning the dog himself. In 43 states???including all the early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina???animal cruelty is a felony, because voters and lawmakers have decided that it???s a serious crime that deserves serious consequences. In fact, 29 of those 43 felony cruelty laws have been passed during the last decade, while Huckabee and Arkansas did nothing. "

If I ever decided to run for a political office, I would expect to be dissected and torn apart for all voters to see. I would have to ask myself how completely stupid someone needs to be to have any of these things in their past, and still run for this office. The only thing I can come up with, is they see nothing wrong with any of these things. As a parent of three, if my child acted as his, I would drive them to the police station.

The issue is not what his son did, so much as what Huckabee did to try to cover for his son. He misused and abused his power. And let's get some perspective here - Huckabee's son is a sociopath of the highest order. He tortured a dog to death. He slit its throat and threw stones at it until it died. This is not a youthful prank, or a teenage hijink gone wrong. His son is a violent lunatic, and he covered up for him.

Judging someone by something that their child did in the past is ridiculous. Give the guy a break. I mean like someone else said, we have all done stupid things in our past, it's not our parents fault. I think that hanging an innocent dog is more than just stupid, in fact it makes me sick, but it was his son, not him, I'm sure he was not applauding his son for doing something like that. I did a lot of things when I was young that were out of line....I don't blame my parents, or anyone else, Don't we have better things to worry about, like how is this man going to run our country?
